French companies to launch online poker siteFollowing on from yesterday’s announcement that France has begun issuing licences to online gaming and poker sites to allow them to operate in the country, analyst Daniel Stewart & Co has said poker sites are unlikely to be seen before autumn.

“The poker licences will not become operational until a Maltese complaint relating to the licences sent to the EU in Brussels has been dealt with,” said James Hollins in a Gambling Sector Note issued by the company yesterday.

“The standstill is likely to expire in July 2010 with poker launching from Q3 2010.”

Of the 13 successful applicants who were issued with 17 licences yesterday seven were for poker. These are:

  • Betclic (Mangas)
  • BESSAS
  • Everest (Mangas)
  • PMU (PartyGaming B2B)
  • Sajoo( bwin/AmauryGroupeJV)
  • SPS Betting
  • Table14

James Stewart, analyst with Daniel Stewart & Co., added, “While there is plenty of excitement and change still to come in France (notably as and when poker will eventually open, and which other operators will ultimately also get a B2C licence), in our universe of stocks, the initial ‘winners’ are bwin Holdings (Sajoo brand should be able to offer wagers on the World Cup, Key Buy), PartyGaming (PMU poker exclusive B2B provider, Buy), Paddy Power (Hold) and private entity Orbis (PMU sports B2B) and Unibet (France Pari JV providing wagers for World Cup).
