Even though earlier in the month Patrik Antonius fell more than $2 million into the abyss of the Durrrr Challenge, he has been having a solid August overall — thanks in part to a profitable past seven days.
At $300-$600 pot-limit Omaha on Full Tilt Poker, Antonius had the big blind and the A 7 5 4. Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond had the button and the small blind. He bet $2,000, and Antonius three-bet to $6,200. Galfond called, and the flop came K 3 2.
Antonius continued with $9,600, and Galfond made the call. The A landed on the turn, giving Antonius the wheel and the nuts. Antonius bet again, this time for $24,600. Galfond called. The 5 fell on the river, and Antonius went all in for about $70,000. Galfond called all in for about $60,000 and mucked when Antonius’ straight was exposed. Antonius raked in the $198,779 pot.
Thanks to a few other pot-limit Omaha victories of about $100,000, Antonius finished the week as one of the biggest winners in the online world. Although earlier in the year he was in the red more than $3 million, he has managed, aside from a some minor setbacks, to steadily build a successful 2010 campaign.
In addition to the Finnish pro, Prahlad “Prefontaine” Friedman has been running well on the 400-meter virtual oval, thanks to one of the largest no-limit hold’em pots this past week.
At $50-$100 no-limit hold’em on PokerStars, Friedman had the button and the K K. He raised to $300, and the player in the small blind three-bet to $1,100. Friedman’s opponent in the big blind called. Friedman four-bet to $4,400, and the small blind folded. The player in the big blind called, and the flop came 8 5 5.
The big blind checked, and Friedman continued with $8,000. His opponent three-bet to $17,500, and Friedman moved all in for about $35,000. The big blind called with the 8 6. The A on the turn gave Friedman’s opponent a flush draw, but the runner-runner failed to come when the 2 landed on the river. Friedman won the $78,442 pot.
Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies has also had a solid past seven days online. He won more than 20 pots, worth the maximum of $80,000, at $500-$1,000 $40,000-cap pot-limit Omaha.
Although he has won more modest pots over the past week, Scott “URnotINdanger2” Palmer remains one of the biggest winners in the online community for a second straight week.
