The latest bi-annual renewal of Poker For The Homeless took place at the PokerStars.com UK & Ireland Poker Tour last weekend.
The event attracted 145 runners, creating a prize pool of €14,500, and was won by former EPT Barcelona runner-up, Fintan Gavin.
Gavin, whose company PokerEvents.ie was also the organizer of the tournament, has been a strong supporter of the fundraiser over the years and his hometown of Galway will benefit from half of the more than €7,500 raised from the event so far.
On top of the €3,900 prize money he won on the day, Gavin will now also play the upcoming EPT London main event, courtesy of PokerStars, where 50 percent of any winnings he has will go back to Poker For The Homeless.
Pledges are still rolling in from the activity surrounding the tournament and Simon Galway and The Capuchin Day Centre in Dublin will be the beneficiaries on this occasion.
Padraig Parkinson, ambassador of Poker For The Homeless, said, “Once again Irish poker players showed that despite the dire straits the country is in they stepped up to the mark to support people worse off than themselves.
“We’d like to thank PokerStars.com who donated the EPT seat, bounties, and part of the buy-in, PokerEvents for organizing the game and donating half of the registration fee, and of course all the players who continue to support us by showing up, buying in, and making Poker For The Homeless what it is.
“Fintan has form in the EPT so we’re hopeful he can get a great run in London and bring back some more much needed cash for the charities. We wish him all the best.”
The final table payouts were:
1: Fintan Gavin — €3,900
2: John Cernuto — €2,500
