Poker for the Homeless, the Irish fundraising organisation dedicated to raising money for homeless charities around Ireland, today announces its return to activity with a two-day poker festival generously sponsored by paddypowerpoker.com.
The event, held The Jackpot Club, Dublin on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6 with all proceeds being donated to Brother Kevin at the Capuchin Day Centre in the city.
Attending the event will be long-time patrons Noel Furlong (World Series of Poker world champion), Donnacha O’Dea (World Series of Poker bracelet winner), Ken Doherty (world snooker champion), and Reggie Corrigan (Irish rugby international).
The schedule opens on Friday, April 5 at 9 p.m. with a €100 + €10 buy in no-limit hold’em freezeout with 20 percent of the prize pool donated to Poker For The Homeless.
Saturday April 6th sees the return of the hugely popular no-limit hold’em team event – last held in 2010 – with teams of four will competing in the €400 + €40 tournament.
€20 euro per person (€80 per team) again will be donated to Poker For The Homeless.
Sixty percent of the prize pool will be paid out to the first three teams (1st – €2,800, 2nd – €1,600, 3rd – €800 (subject to 27 teams registering) while 40 percent will be paid out to individuals at the final table.
Additionally Paddy Power Poker will have a variety of high quality goodies to give away as spot prizes over the weekend.
Ambassador for the fundraising festival Padraig Parkinson, said, “It’s been three years since we last ran a Poker For the Homeless weekend and its great to be back. The number of homeless and desperate people being helped by Brother Kevin and the Capuchin Day Centre has increased in this time.
“While things are not easy for anyone in the current economic crisis we know the poker community is a tight knit one and one with a strong tradition of giving so we look forward to a great turnout and some great craic along the way!”
Poker For The Homeless has raised almost €250,000 in the last seven years for homeless charities across Ireland.
