Online Poker -- Ilari Sahamies Loses Nearly 800-Big-Blind Pot To DrugsOrMeFinnish Pro Continues Trend of Massive Swings |
|
Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies has been experiencing vicious swings over the past couple months, and a session late last week was a microcosm of his recent trend.
On Full Tilt Poker last Thursday, Sahamies, who began last week by losing nearly $1 million to Tom “durrrr” Dwan, started a session at six-max pot-limit Omaha deep running poorly. His frustration climaxed when he lost a 768-big-blind pot versus nosebleed regulars DrugsOrMe and cadillac1944. However, Sahamies was able to recover later in the evening session by winning a pot worth more than $500,000.
Here is a look at the massive pot Sahamies and cadillac1944 lost to DrugsOrMe.
The Scenario:
Game | Pot-Limit Omaha Deep | Blinds/Antes | $200-$400 |
Player | Ilari Sahamies | DrugsOrMe | cadillac1944 |
Stack Size | $80,000 | $132,724 | $113,467 |
Hand | 9 8 5 3 | A A Q 8 | K K Q 5 |
The Action:
The massive confrontation started when Sahamies raised to $1,400 from under the gun. DrugsOrMe was next to act, and he three-bet to $4,800. Two players folded to cadillac1944 in the small blind. He called, and the big blind folded. Sahamies four-bet to $8,200, and DrugsOrMe five-bet to $29,800. Cadillac1944 made the call and so did Sahamies.
The flop came 6 3 2, and cadillac1944 went all in for $83,667. Sahamies called all in for $50,200, and DrugsOrMe called to put both his opponents at risk. According to Card Player’s Omaha odds calculator, Sahamies wins about 25 percent of the time with his straight draw and outs to make two pair. Cadillac1944 was a slight favorite with his flush draw over the bare aces of DrugsOrMe.
The A fell on the turn, giving DrugsOrMe a set of aces and nearly crippling Sahamies’ chances. The 3 fell on the river, giving DrugsOrMe a full house. The unknown high-stakes player raked in the $307,331 pot.
Although Sahamies lost the massive pot early in the session, he was able to recover nicely by winning a 1,363-big-blind pot when his A 8 K 4 hit runner-runner flush against DrugsOrMe later in the evening.
