Day 3 of the WPT Festa al Lago Main EventSteve O'Dwyer Leads Final 41 Players |
|
After only three days of play, the field of 335 players at the World Poker Tour Festa al Lago main event has already grinded itself down to the final 41.
A total of 99 players began the day with the hopes of making the money, but only 50 would accomplish the task. Notables who missed out on a payday included David Williams, David Singer, Hoyt Corkins, Daniel Negreanu, Cornel Cimpan, Ted Lawson, Vanessa Selbst, Men Nguyen and Lee Markholt.
While the players hit the rail at a steady pace, it was near November Nine member Brandon Steven who was creeping up the chip counts. When the field reached the money bubble, Steven got his stack in holding pocket aces against Owen Crowe and his big slick. The aces held and Crowe was left crippled. Three hands later, Crowe was eliminated by Gavin Smith to end hand-for-hand play.
There was still another level to complete before play ended and many used the time to put themselves into good position for day 4. Among the notables at the top of the leader board when play concluded were Jeff Madsen, Andreas Hoivold, Randal Flowers Jason Koon and Lyle Berman. Steve O’Dwyer, who final tabled a WPT event at Bellagio last December, ended the night in first place.
Two Card Player Player of the Year contenders are also still in contention. Both Jared Jaffe and Tom Marchese are hoping to add to their point totals with just over two months remaining in the race.
Here’s a look at the players who busted in the money.
