His next double came as the result of a scoop in a close hand where he and Calen McNeil each had two pair, aces and nines, but Brunson held a jack-kicker to win the hand. Brunson was up to 700,000 after the second double and he was close to 900,000 by the end of the level. Joe Ford Crippled Joe Ford raised and Calen McNeil called preflop. Adam Friedman Wins Event no. 15 ($269,037)Jun 09, '12 Level: 30 Ante: 20,000 Adam Friedman Wins Event no. 15 ($269,037) Todd Brunson entered the final level of the night with a slight chip lead of 1,750,000 to Adam Friedman’s 1,430,000, and quickly extended his lead after scooping a big pot early in the level. Brunson won the nearly 1.5 million showdown with a pair of sixes for the high and an eight low. That hand put Brunson way out in front with about 2,350,000 to Friedman’s 830,000. Friedman managed to climb back to even after winning a showdown with a pair of aces and then took the lead once again after winning a huge showdown with a pair of tens. After nearly three and a half hours of heads-up play, Adam Friedman finally defeated Todd Brunson to win his first WSOP gold bracelet Adam Friedman brought in the 2 for 20,000, Todd Brunson completed the bet to 80,000 with the 10 and Friedman called. Players Remaining: 1,080 of 6,865 Blinds: 1,200-2,400 with a 300 ante The Chip Leaders: Patrick Poirier: 1,065,800 Card Player Chip Counts: Daniel Negreanu — 261,700 Notables Eliminated: Shaun Deeb Hands: Shaun Deeb Crippled, Eliminated After a player opened the action, Shaun Deeb three-bet from the small blind. Max Heinzelmann four-bet from the big blind, and the original raiser folded. Deeb five-bet, and Heinzelmann shoved for about 220,000 total. Deeb snap called with pocket aces and was up against A-6 off suit. The flop brought a six and the river brought another one, crippling Deeb to just 20,000 and propelling the European to about 440,000. Deeb was eliminated shortly thereafter. Sorel Mizzi Takes out an Opponent Sorel Mizzi opened a pot from the hi-jack and then one opponent moved all in for 30,000. Mizzi made the call and they flipped over their cards: Mizzi: A K Board: A J 5 K 3 Mizzi took out his opponent and he increased his chip stack to 150,000. Lee Watkinson Eliminated Lee Watkinson was once up to 90,000, but then had his K-K lose to A-Q, and then he got the last of his chips into the middle after flopping a pair of aces, but lost to Q-Q when his opponent hit trips on the river. Todd Brunson Doubles Todd Brunson flopped a straight and flush draw in a three-way pot. He moved all in and was called by an opponent holding aces. He was facing a 7,075 bet by seat 10 on a board of JKJ7A. “You now have one minute before your hand becomes…” tablemate David Chiu said before the floor staff could. Some players at the table laughed, but Rajkumar was busy talking out the hand and saying, “You might have aces.” After some time of deliberation, Rajkumar made the call and his opponent turned over his cards, stating, “You were right.” He showed AA for the full house. Vivek shook his head and had just around 8,000 left. Todd Brunson Loses a Pot Pavilion Room Coverage A player in middle position bet 750 and Todd Brunson made the call. The flop came K-10-4 and it was checked for a 4 turn. It was checked again for a 4 turn and checked again for a Q river. Brunson’s opponent bet 1,000 and Brunson diliberated before making the fold. Brunson was down to 40,000. Jeff Shulman Doubles Up Jeff Shulman was all in preflop against Johannes Steindl. Shulman tabled the AK while Steindl exposed the KJ. The board ran out Q5439 and Shulman doubled to 8,400. Allen Cunningham Eliminates a Player Allen Cunningham bet 800 from early position and Bernard Lee called from the cutoff. The small blind moved all in for 11,300. Cunningham called and Lee folded. Cunningham exposed the AK and was in great shape versus the AJ of his opponent. Day 1 EndsMay 31, '10 Day 1 has come to a close at the $1,500 Omaha eight-or-better event at the 2010 World Series of Poker. The tournament attracted a total of 818 participants and 297 have survived the first day. The total prize pool for the event is $1,104,300 and the top prize is $237,421. The top 81 players will walk away with at least $2,750 in prize money. The leader board is crowded with some of the biggest names in poker. Bonomo stood pat on the first draw while Mueller drew two cards. Bonomo then fired 1,800 into the pot and Mueller called. On the second draw, Mueller took another two cards while Bonomo stood pat again. Bonomo fired 3,600 and Mueller called. Mueller drew one card on the final draw while Bonomo stood pat one last time. He then fired 3,600 more into the pot and Mueller mucked, showing 77. Bonomo took the pot and improved to over 220,000. Mueller was crippled with just 1,500. A few hands later, Mueller put the rest of his stack into the middle against Bonomo and seat 1. After a series of Bonomo bets into a side pot, Bonomo took the sizeable pot with a 9-low. Mueller then tried to contest for the main pot, turning over 5-4-3-2. But he flipped the J and was eliminated from the tournament. Scotty Takes Another One Off Ivey, Baby Scotty Nguyen bet after every draw but the last one, and stood pat on each turn. Phil Ivey called each bet, drawing one each time. While checking on the end Scotty said “I better not press my luck” and showed 86542, which was good enough to take the pot. Omaha/8 Hellmuth Gets Cold Welcoming to New Table Phil Hellmuth has been moved to a stacked table featuring Howard Lederer, Tony G, Barry Greenstein, Todd Brunson and Joe Cassidy. No Limit Hold’em Kravchenko loses a big one Alex Kravchenko called a preflop raise from the player in seat 2 and the flop came K102. Kravchenko checked and seat 2 bet 5,500. Kravchenko called and the turn brought the J. Kravchenko checked, 2 bet 13,700 and Kravchenko check-raised to 35,000. Seat 2 tanked, eventually calling. The river brought the Q and both players checked. Jesus Caught In A Lie On a board showing 9974, Chris Ferguson bet 11,000 from the hijack and Dario Minieri called from the button. The river was the 2 and Ferguson thought for a few moments before firing 25,000 into the pot. Minieri did not believe in Jesus and made a snap call. Ferguson lightly tapped the table and showed a stone-cold bluff, 108 for a busted straight draw. Minieri then showed A8 for ace-high and took down a nice pot. He was around 230,000 while Ferguson was just around 80,000. Pot Limit Omaha The Russian eliminates Townsend Carlos Mortenson Takes a Pot A three-way pot was checked after a flop of 863. Steve Sung made the call from the cutoff and Scott Clements and Jason Mercier mucked. The river was the 4 and Mizzi fired one more barrel, this one 5,500. Sung made the call and Mizzi lightly tapped the table. “You got me,” he said to Sung. Sung showed A10 and took the pot, improving his stack to 173,000. Mizzi was down to 144,000. Williamson’s Queens Stay True In a limped pot Todd Brunson was heads up against Robert Williamson III heading into a flop of 934. Brunson checked and Williamson bet 1200. Brunson called and both players checked the A on the turn. When the 9 landed on the river Brunson bet out 2400. Williamson looked confused but elected to make the call. Brunson flipped up the 4 for nines and fours, leaving his other card hidden. A surprised Williamson said, “Oh! I can beat that!” and flipped over QQ for a better two pair and the win. Omaha 8OB Elezra Forces Out The Mouth Ted Forrest entered a pot along with Mike Matusow, Alexander Kostritsyn and Eli Elezra. On a flop of 1022 Matusow bet 1200 and Elezra raised him to 2400. All other players folded and Matusow called the raise. The K hit on the turn and Matusow checked to Elezra who bet out 2400, forcing Matusow to fold. Lunkin’s stack takes a hit Robert Mizrachi raised to 2,400 preflop and Vitaly Lunkin made the call. The flop fell J99 and Mizrachi led out with 1,200. Lunkin raised to 2,400 and Mizrachi instantly repopped it to 3,600. Lunkin tanked for a few moments and then let his hand slide into the muck. Mizrachi took down the pot and was hovering around 100,000. Lunkin fell to 153,000. Harman Blows Past Boeken On a board of J628, Jennifer Harman bet 2400 and was called by Noah Boeken. The 5 s fell on the river and Boeken quickly checked to Harman who bet out 2400 again. Boeken took his time and folded, giving Harman the pot. Her stack sits healthy, while Boeken’s is dwindling. Seven Card Stud See Chen Win Negreanu’s two pair takes it John Monnette bet every street heads up against Daniel Negreanu. The cards fell as follows: Matusow Falling Mike Matusow and fellow Full Tilt pro Erick Lindgren were paired up in a large pot. Lindgren fired away on each street, finally forcing Matusow to fold the (X-X)(X)K287. Lindgren mucked his (X-X)(X)J29Q and raked in the pot. Matusow is down to 79,500. Pot-limit Omaha Zolotow Wins On a board of J102, Steve Zolotow checked and Ralph Perry bet 8,000. Zolotow went into the tank and finally made the call. No Limit Hold’em_ Brunson Makes His Exits, Courtesy Of Aces A short-staked Todd Brunson hoped to make a quick double up in the no limit hold’em round but his K9 ran into the AA of Roman Yitzhaki and Brunson’s hand didn’t improve, sending him to the rail. Alioto Ousted Dario Alioto moved all in for his last 8,500. Eli Elezra called, as did Noah Boeken from the big blind. The flop came down Q44 and both players checked. The turn was the 3 and Boeken fired 12,000 into the pot. Elezra got out of the way and Boeken tabled 109 for a flush. Alioto showed cracked kings, KK. The river was the J and Alioto was eliminated. Bonomo stood pat on the first draw while Mueller drew two cards. Bonomo then fired 1,800 into the pot and Mueller called. On the second draw, Mueller took another two cards while Bonomo stood pat again. Bonomo fired 3,600 and Mueller called. Mueller drew one card on the final draw while Bonomo stood pat one last time. He then fired 3,600 more into the pot and Mueller mucked, showing 77. Bonomo took the pot and improved to over 220,000. Mueller was crippled with just 1,500. A few hands later, Mueller put the rest of his stack into the middle against Bonomo and seat 1. After a series of Bonomo bets into a side pot, Bonomo took the sizeable pot with a 9-low. Mueller then tried to contest for the main pot, turning over 5-4-3-2. But he flipped the J and was eliminated from the tournament. Scotty Takes Another One Off Ivey, Baby Scotty Nguyen bet after every draw but the last one, and stood pat on each turn. Phil Ivey called each bet, drawing one each time. While checking on the end Scotty said “I better not press my luck” and showed 86542, which was good enough to take the pot. No Limit Hold’em Kravchenko loses a big one Alex Kravchenko called a preflop raise from the player in seat 2 and the flop came K102. Kravchenko checked and seat 2 bet 5,500. Kravchenko called and the turn brought the J. Kravchenko checked, 2 bet 13,700 and Kravchenko check-raised to 35,000. Seat 2 tanked, eventually calling. He was around 230,000 while Ferguson was just around 80,000. Pot Limit Omaha The Russian eliminates Townsend Carlos Mortenson Takes a Pot A three-way pot was checked after a flop of 863. After the 10 came on the turn, the player in seat 2 bet 11000, Carlos Mortenson called and the third player folded. The 9 river led to checking from both players and Mortenson showed AA108, which was good enough to take the pot. Matusow Chops Huge Pot With Kostritsyn Mike Matusow was all in against Alexander Kostritsyn with the board showing Q10876. There was around 320,000 in the pot when Matusow showed 10987 for a straight. Kostritsyn showed down Q-988 for the same straight and Matusow survived his all in. Seat one led out with a bet of 6600 and Oppenheim called. Mizzi Sings The Blues, Sung Calls Bluff On a board showing K1067, Sorel Mizzi bet 2,600 from the big blind. Steve Sung made the call from the cutoff and Scott Clements and Jason Mercier mucked. The river was the 4 and Mizzi fired one more barrel, this one 5,500. Sung made the call and Mizzi lightly tapped the table. “You got me,” he said to Sung. Sung showed A10 and took the pot, improving his stack to 173,000. Mizzi was down to 144,000. Hasan Habib trips up Chen On a board of KJ887, Hasan Habib bets 10,500 and Bill Chen quickly calls. Habib shows A8 for trips and Chen mucked. Limit HE Chopped Up On a board showing 962, Dario Minieri bet 1,200 and Greg Raymer made the call. The turn brought the J and both players checked. The J fell on the river and Minieri took a stab at the pot with a 2,400 bet. Raymer quickly called and Minieri showed AK. “You will get half,” Raymer said. He tabled AK and the players split the pot. Williamson’s Queens Stay True In a limped pot Todd Brunson was heads up against Robert Williamson III heading into a flop of 934. Brunson checked and Williamson bet 1200. Brunson called and both players checked the A on the turn. When the 9 landed on the river Brunson bet out 2400. Williamson looked confused but elected to make the call. Brunson flipped up the 4 for nines and fours, leaving his other card hidden. A surprised Williamson said, “Oh! I can beat that!” and flipped over QQ for a better two pair and the win. Omaha 8OB Elezra Forces Out The Mouth Ted Forrest entered a pot along with Mike Matusow, Alexander Kostritsyn and Eli Elezra. On a flop of 1022 Matusow bet 1200 and Elezra raised him to 2400. All other players folded and Matusow called the raise. The K hit on the turn and Matusow checked to Elezra who bet out 2400, forcing Matusow to fold. Lunkin’s stack takes a hit Robert Mizrachi raised to 2,400 preflop and Vitaly Lunkin made the call. The flop fell J99 and Mizrachi led out with 1,200. Lunkin raised to 2,400 and Mizrachi instantly repopped it to 3,600. Lunkin tanked for a few moments and then let his hand slide into the muck. Mizrachi took down the pot and was hovering around 100,000. Lunkin fell to 153,000. Harman Blows Past Boeken On a board of J628, Jennifer Harman bet 2400 and was called by Noah Boeken. The 5 s fell on the river and Boeken quickly checked to Harman who bet out 2400 again. Boeken took his time and folded, giving Harman the pot. Her stack sits healthy, while Boeken’s is dwindling. Seven Card Stud See Chen Win Negreanu’s two pair takes it John Monnette bet every street heads up against Daniel Negreanu. The cards fell as follows: Matusow Falling Mike Matusow and fellow Full Tilt pro Erick Lindgren were paired up in a large pot. Lindgren fired away on each street, finally forcing Matusow to fold the (X-X)(X)K287. Lindgren mucked his (X-X)(X)J29Q and raked in the pot. Matusow is down to 79,500.
