Vanessa Rousso Gets Super Lucky on the Turn, Eventually Advances
All the money went in preflop with Vanessa Rousso tabling the A 10 and David Oppenheim exposing pocket queens. The flop came Q J 3, giving Oppenheim top set, and leaving Rousso with a gut-shot straight draw. The turn was perfect for Rousso as the K landed on the felt. The river bricked for Oppenheim and Rousso doubled up, talking after about how she played the hand to Oppenheim, who seemed disinterested in the chatter about the bad beat.
A couple levels later Rousso eliminated her opponent. Nick Schulman, who was playing his match at the same table, asked Oppenheim where he was going. The high-stakes cash game pro replied “jump off a building.” The players at the table chuckled, and Schulman asked “Bellagio?” Oppenheim said yes, and Schulman asked his fellow Full Tilt Poker pro to wait for him to finish his match.
Galen Hall Down to Last 25K
Galen Hall got the last of one of his three barrels into the middle with the A 5 and was called by Ashton Griffin’s A-8 off suit. The board bricked for Hall, and he reloaded with his last 25,000.
Mercier Disgusted by Turn and River
On a board reading Q J 8 3 4 Gus Hansen fired a big river bet and Jason Mercier thought it over before eventually calling. Hansen announced that he had two pair, and Mercier looked dejected. Hansen exposed the 3 4 for a runner-runner two pair, and scooped the pot when Mercier mucked.
Tom Dwan Doubles Up
Tom Dwan got 30,300 in preflop with A-K against Peter Jetten’s A 7. The board ran out safe for Dwan and he doubled.
The chip leader curse continues. Faraz Jaka was at one time in this tournament, the far and away chip leader. Now he is out after getting it all in preflop with pocket sixes against Vanessa Rousso’s pocket tens.
The board came JJ947 and Jaka was eliminated. Rousso is now in fourth place with 430,000.

Card Player TV
Here is a look at the videos that have been posted today from CardPlayer TV:
Table 35 has been a favorite haunting spot for tournament reporters early in the day here with four well-known players mixing things up. Here are a few of the early pots:
Maria Ho limped under the gun and Isaac Baron raised to 400 UTG+1. Faraz Jaka reraised to 1,200 and Ho reraised again to 3,300. The flop fell K 7 6 and Ho fired out 2,600. Jaka went into the tank and reraised to 5,900. Ho thought for a moment bu decided to muck.
In the next battle between Ho and Jaka, the board read K 10 7 when Ho bet 400 from the cutoff and Jaka made the call from the big blind. The 5 fell on the turn and Ho bet 525. Jaka thought for a quick moment but decided to muck.
Three players paid a 200 price of admission preflop and then checked down the 10 10 9 Q 5 board before Maria Ho bet 450 UTG+1. The small blind made the call and Jose Barbero mucked on the big blind. Ho flipped over Q J, which was good enough to make the small blind muck.
Medic vs. Rousso
There was 2,350 in the pot and a flop of 9 7 4 sitting on the table when the cutoff bet 2,000. Nenad Medic made the call under the gun and Vanessa Rousso then raised to 6,000 UTG+1. The cutoff mucked and Medic made the call after spending some time in the tank. The turn fell Q and Medic moved all in for 10,875. Rousso took her turn thinking things over with a little over 20,000 behind and eventually decided to muck.
Daniel Negreanu Makes a Big Laydown
Daniel Negreanu bet 1,000 from the small blind and the cutoff made the call. The flop fell 10 5 4 and Negreanu bet 1,200. His opponent made the call and the K fell on the turn. Negreanu bet 3,000 and the cutoff went into the tank. He decided to raise to 8,600 and Negreanu made the call after spending some time in the tank himself. The Q fell on the river and Negreanu checked. The cutoff bet 12,000 and after some more time in the tank Negreanu decided to muck.

Lisandro’s Aces Crack, He Busts
The player in seat 8 raised to 1,200 and when action folded to Jeff Lisandro he raised to 3,200. Seat 8 called and they saw the flop come 3Q4.
Lisandro bet out 4,000 and seat 8 called. The turn then brought the 4 and Lisandro led again for 6,000. Seat 8 raised to 16,000, essentially putting Lisandro all in. Lisandro thought for a moment and moved all in for just a bit more. Seat 8 called.
“Your queens are good,” Lisandro said as he flipped over AA. He was correct, as seat 8 showed QQ for the flopped set and turned full house. Lisandro was dead to an ace on the river, and he was not happy about his bad luck. “Just put it out there,” he demanded, instead of waiting for the ESPN crew’s thumbs up to continue. It was the 10 and Lisandro stormed away from the Amazon room, eliminated late on day 1d.
Lisandro had three cashes at the 2010 WSOP for around $90,000, including one final table appearance. Check out his results here.
Ivey Doubles up Opponent
Entering the action late, Phil Ivey had an opponent all in and at risk for 12,075 on a flop of AJ10. Their hands:
Ivey: K9
Opponent: A8
Ivey held a straight draw and flush draw, but he was still trailing his opponent’s pair of aces. The turn was the J and the 3 on the river didn’t fill Ivey’s draws. He lost the pot and dropped to around 25,000 in chips.
Rousso Surrenders The Double Up
Picking up the action after the flop, the board read A98. The player in seat 3 ended up all in for 7,350 and Vanessa Rousso made the call.
Rousso: 107
Seat 3: A9
Seat 3 flopped two pair but Rousso had an open-ended straight draw. The turn was a blank with the 3 and the river bricked as well with the 8 and seat 3 doubled up.
Rousso dropped the rare pot but she still had 128,000.
Pavilion Room Update
Sorel Mizzi Doubles Up an Opponent
On a flop of 10106 Sorel Mizzi bet and his opponent moved all in for 24,275 more. Mizzi tanked before making the call with the AA. His opponent exposed the J10 for trip tens. The turn and river both bricked for Mizzi and he was made a short stack with about 9,000 left.
Chris Moore Drops a Pot
A player in middle position bet and got one caller. Chris Moore three-bet to 3,000 more. The original bettor called and the player in the middle folded. After the flop, Moore’s opponent bet out and Moore released. He was at around the starting stack after the hand.
Just before the 20-minute break after level one, with 1,200 in the pot with the board reading A73K a player in the small blind bet 300. Jason Mercier made the call. The 5 on the river prompted a check from the small bind. Mercier bet 1,500 and his opponent made the call. Mercier exposed the K9 for the nuts. Mercier was up to 36,500 after the hand.
Phil Ivey Chipping Up
Right before Ivey was able to leave his seat for the 20-minute break after level one, six players saw a flop of K104 for 300, including 8-time bracelet winner Phil Ivey. The preflop bettor led out for 700 and was called by one opponent. Ivey raised to 2,800 and it was folded to the initial bettor. He folded but the player who called next threw in enough to call Ivey’s raise. The turn brought the 9 and action went check-check. The 2 fell on the river and Ivey’s opponent bet 3,600. Ivey quickly called and tabled pocket tens for a set. His opponent mucked the KQ. Ivey was up to 45,700 after the hand.
Rousso Gets Some Back
Picking up the action after the flop fell QQ8, the player in seat 7 bet 900 and Vanessa Rousso repopped to 2,000.
Seat 7 made the call and the turn brought the J. Seat 7 checked and Rousso counted out announced “3,000” as she tossed in an orange 5,000 chip. Seat 7 went in the tank but decided to let his hand go.
Rousso raked in the pot and took back some of the chips she lost to seat 7 before the break. She was at 33,000.
A few hands later on a flop of 864, the action checked to Rousso and she fired 600. The player in seat 10 then raised to 1,800 and three other players in the hand mucked. Rousso made the call and the Q fell on the turn.
Rousso checked and seat 10 bet 2,300. Rousso made the call and the river was the 7. Rousso led out with 5,000 and seat 10 made the call.
Rousso tabled 65 for a rivered straight, better than seat 10’s 44 for a set on the flop. Rousso took the pot and she was back up close to 40,000.
Lisandro Drops One
Jeffrey Lisandro limped in preflop along with three other players. The four saw a flop of Q53 and the player in the big blind bet 500. Lisandro was the only caller and the turn was the 2.
The big blind bet another 500 and Lisandro raised to 1,200. The call was made and the river was the 8. The big blind bet 1,200 and Lisandro made the call.
The big blind then tabled AQ for top pair and Lisandro mucked. He was at 32,000.
Bari Chipping Up
A player raised to 550 preflop and four players called, including Allen Bari and Hevad Khan. The flop then came down KQ9 and everyone checked.
The Q came on the turn and a player bet 975. Only one player mucked as the other three tagged along to see the 5 on the river.
Action was checked to Bari and he fired 2,250. The big blind was the only caller and Bari tabled AQ for trips. The big blind mucked and Bari scooped the pot. He was at 50,500 after the hand.
William Thorson Moved In On
A player in late position bet 700 and William Thorson called from the button. A payer in the small blind moved all in for 7,000 total and it was folded back to Thorson. He went deep into the tank before finally releasing his hand. He was at less than 20,000 afteward.
Phil Ivey Yawns and Chips Get Sucked into His Mouth
A player in the cutoff made it 550 and the button raised to 1,500. Ivey didn’t take long before four-betting to 4,500. The initial bettor folded and the button took some time before finally folding. Ivey is doing well here on day 1d. He was at over 50,000 after the hand.
David Benyamine Makes a Good Fold
On a board of AQJ9 David Benyamine bet 4,700. His opponent tanked before eventually making the call. The A fell on the river and Benyamine checked. His opponent quickly fired out a bet of 6,000. Benyamine went into the tank before finally folding and flashing K-10 for broad way. His opponent made him feel a little bitter by exposing the AJ for a full house. How To Blow $10,000 In Five Minutes
“All in and a call!” Those were the words uttered just five minutes into the level as a player moved all in (for 300 big blinds) with AQ on a K108.

A Tough Table
John Juanda will need a first or second-place finish in the main event to catch Frank Kassela in the player of the year race. That would be a hard task regardless, but add the fact that he is seated right next to David Benyamine and the odds are even more difficult.
A Reunion
2005 main event runner-up Steve Dannenmann has shown up and is in the field today. Interestingly enough, despite a massive field he is seated at the table right next to the table featuring the man who beat him that year, Joe Hachem.
Featured Today
The ESPN main stage is currently occupied by 2009 main event runner-up Darvin Moon. He has been hard to spot at this year’s WSOP but he is getting the bulk of the camera time today.
On the outer ESPN stage is the Godfather himself, Doyle Brunson. At one of the outer feature tables is Vanessa Rousso, so these players should get plenty of airtime once the WSOP telecast rolls around.

The flop ran 4AA and Morrison bet 500. Everyone folded except the player in seat 7, who called. Both players checked the 2 turn and again on the Q river.

We caught up wit the action with a short stacked player already all-in and there was over 48,000 in the middle. Nguyen thought about the decision to call off all his chips for three minutes before making the fold.

Prahlad Friedman Free-rolling
There was massive confusion and lots of debating around a table in the Pavilion Room. The story goes that Prahlad Friedman was in the big blind and was squared off in a hand versus the small blind. The flop came jack-high and Friedman’s opponent bet into him. Friedman called and there was heavy betting on the turn. On the river, the small blind bet 80,000, which was more than enough to put Friedman all in. Friedman went into the tank for minutes before his opponent finally called the clock on him. The floor came over and started giving the countdown. With three seconds left, Friedman announced call and everyone at the table heard him. However, apparently the floor didn’t hear the call, continued the countdown to zero and announced that Friedman’s hand was dead. Friedman’s opponent tabled top two and Friedman didn’t turn over his dead hand. Friedman said that his opponent had the best hand. Allegedly, Friedman should have been eliminated but from the ruling was still alive and free-rolling the rest of the way.

When the K hit the river, Masaki doubled up and Ivey was crippled to just 1,900.

The 3 finished the board and Varkonyi checked. Rousso followed suit and announced that she had missed all sorts of draws, flipping up 56. Varkonyi showed 88 for a flopped set and took down the pot.
Varkonyi had around 140,000 in chips after the hand. Rousso was still going strong with around 175,000.
Morrison On Life Support
Kirk Morrison limped into the pot in middle position and three others came along for the ride.
The flop ran 4AA and Morrison bet 500. Everyone folded except the player in seat 7, who called. Both players checked the 2 turn and again on the Q river.
Seat 7 turned up Q3 for a busted flush draw that hit a pair on the river. Morrison looked like he wanted to tear up his cards as he mucked. He was down to just 4,350.
Nguyen Makes Great Fold
We caught up wit the action with a short stacked player already all-in and there was over 48,000 in the middle. Nguyen thought about the decision to call off all his chips for three minutes before making the fold.
He showed KK face up and was happy to see that the other player had turned up AA. Nguyen saved himself some chips and has 75,000.
Kirk Morrison Bounced
Kirk Morrison moved all-in after the player under-the-gun raised. The player on the button called Morrison’s all-in and the player under-the-gun made it 12,275. The player on the button opted to move all-in for 16,600 total and there was a three-way showdown.

Tony Ma Wins a Pot
On a board reading A109Q Tony Ma checked. His opponent bet 2,400 and Ma raised to 6,400. His opponent called. The river brought the 9 and Ma checked. His opponent quickly checked behind. Ma announced straight and turned over the J8. His opponent mucked. Ma was at over 100,000 after the hand.
Thuy Doan
Shannon Elizabeth
Phil Ivey
Alex Kamberis
Big Hands:
Thuy Doan Eliminated
Thuy Doan moved all in preflop for 5,000 and was called by one opponent. Doan tabled the 55 but was dominated by the 1010 of her opponent. The board ran out J966Q and Doan was eliminated very early on day 2a.

Orel Hershiser Moved In On
A player in middle position bet 1,100 and Orel Hershiser called in the small blind. The flop came K103 and action went check-check. The Q on the turn prompted another check from Hershiser. His opponent bet 1,050. Hershiser check-raised to 6,025. His opponent reraised enough to put the former professional athlete all in. Hershiser elected to fold and saved his last 9,000.
Vanessa Rousso Slipping
Vanessa Rousso and three other players were involved in a pot on a board reading 9878. A player in the small blind bet 1,300. Rousso and an opponent in the cutoff called. Martin exposed the KK and was in great shape against the Q9 of Miller. However, the board ran out 98310J and Martin was gone after his opponent made a straight. Miller was at 155,000 after the hand.
Brett Richey Eliminates Alex Kamberis
Alex Kamberis was all in preflop with A-K against the pocket tens of Brett Richey. The pocket pair held and Kamberis was eliminated.
Phil Ivey Crippled
A player in last position opened to 1,100. Yuji Masaki raised to 2,800. Phil Ivey went all in from the big blind and the original bettor folded. However, Masaki made the call for his tournament life. Masaki exposed the KK and was way ahead of the QQ of Ivey. The flop was safe for Masaki as it came 883. However, the Q on the turn gave Ivey top set. Masaki had two outs to stay alive. When the K hit the river, Masaki doubled up and Ivey was crippled to just 1,900.
Ivey was eliminated a few hands later and his run at back-to-back final tables won’t happen.
