Marquez and MarafiotiJul 14, '13 The field keeps growing and the later it gets the more pros are taking their seats. We’ve just spotted two more players who are always a force to be reckoned with. Ana Marquez’s summer has been quite alright this year as she managed to take down the Hollywood Poker Open event for $320,189 more than two weeks ago. Marquez is playing again today hoping to add another nice score to her poker resume. Marquez is sitting at the same table as Matt Marafioti who’s coming off a decent WSOP Main Event run. Marafioti cashed five times at the WSOP this year, but he did not managed to make it to a final table. Player Tags: Ana Marquez, Matthew Marafioti |

Round Four: Final 8 RemainJun 01, '11 Round Three: Elite Eight Set Players Remaining: 8 out of 128 Starting Stacks for Round 4: 1.2 million broken up into three chances. Eliminations: Jonathan Jaffe Hands: Gus Hansen Eliminates Tom Dwan, Play Ends for the Evening Although he was short on numerous occasions in the match, Gus Hansen came back to finish off Tom Dwan. The final hand saw Hansen raise to 220,000 from the button, and Dwan shoved. Hansen called with the K 9 and was ahead of the Q 10 of Dwan. Hansen paired his nine on the flop and that was good enough to hold and eliminate Dwan. Kunimaro Kojo Eliminated Kunimaro Kojo and David Paredes saw a flop of K 9 2, and Kojo checked. Paredes bet 50,000, Kojo raised to 125,000. Paredes shoved, putting his opponent all in for 388,000, and Kojo called. Paredes tabled the K 7 and was good against the 9 6 of Kojo. The board bricked out for Kojo and he was gone. Steve Billirakis Eliminated Matt Marafioti raised to 48,000 on the button, and Billirakis moved all in. Marafioti called with the A J and was racing against the 8 8 of his opponent. The board brought the wheel for Marafioti and Billiarkis was gone. Mikhail Smirnov Eliminated With just about 30,000 left Mikhail Smirnov got all in preflop against Nikolay Evdakov with the Q 8, and was ahead of the J 9 of his opponent. However, the board brought four clubs, giving Evdakov a flush and the elimination. Jake Cody Moves On Jonathan Jaffe had all his money in the middle and turned over K Q and Jake Cody exposed pocket jacks. The board ran out 7 6 3 5 6, and Cody was the first player to advance to the round of 8. Player Tags: Gus Hansen, John Duthie, Steve Billirakis, Eric Froehlich, Tom Dwan, Richard Lyndaker, Matthew Marafioti Round Three: Hour Two – Mortensen and Griffin Out while Duthie and Dwan AdvanceJun 01, '11 NOTE: Three blind levels will be played each hour, as each is just 20 minutes long. The only difference in round 3 is that the blinds begin at 600-1,200. NOTE: Day 2 Will Continue Until the Conclusion of the Sweet 16 Round, which will begin at 8 p.m. this evening. The field decided to take a 15-minute break at the end of hour two so the hour three update will come in at 6:15. Players Remaining: 30 out of 128 Starting Stacks: 300,000 broken up into three chances — meaning that the players started with 100,000 and had 200,000 additional on the side that they could add on at anytime before a hand. If their additional chips were not in play when a hand begins, those chips couldn’t be used to wager with. Ongoing Matches: David Benyamine vs. Anthony Guetti Daniel Alaei vs. Gus Hansen Eric Froehlich vs. Steve Zolotow Yevgeniy Timshenko vs. Amritraj Singh Eliminations: Carlos Mortensen Key Hands: Carlos Mortensen Falls Against John Duthie Carlos Mortensen was knocked down to 100,000 when he moved all in with Q J and John Duthie made the call with K 5. The board ran out K J 7 5 3 and Mortensen was down to his final reload chip. A few hands later it was all over for Mortensen. Mortensen was all in again, this time with pocket deuces and Duthie had him covered with pocket queens. The board stayed out of things, running off J J 10 9 6 and Duthie became the first player to advance to the sweet 16 and make the money. He ensured a cash worth at least $67,436. Tom Dwan Advances Ashton Griffin got the last of his chips into the middle against Tom Dwan and when they flipped over their cards “Durrrr†was way out in front with pocket aces over his opponents pocket fives. The aces held and Dwan was the second player to advance to the sweet 16. Maxim Lykov Close to the Ropes Maxim Lykov faced another decision against Matt Marafioti with the board reading K K 6 2 A and 50,000 raised out on the table after Lykov opened the action for 16,000. Lykov decided to call and then he mucked his cards when Marafioti flipped over two black aces. Lykov was down to less than 100,000 after the hand with no reload chips. Player Tags: Carlos Mortensen, John Duthie, Tom Dwan, Ashton Griffin, Maxim Lykov, Matthew Marafioti Round Three: Hour One – Slow Start to Round of 32 Matches with More Chips in PlayJun 01, '11 NOTE: Three blind levels will be played each hour, as each is just 20 minutes long. Alaei revealed K 3 and Hansen mucked the 10 face up. Alaei took the lead in their match after the hand. Juanda Down to his Final 100,000 John Juanda moved all in on a 8 4 3 A board with 10 8 in the hole but unfortunately for him David Paredes was waiting to make the call with J 8. His dominant hand faded the river and he won the pot, forcing Juanda to reach for his final 100,000 to reload. Lykov vs. Marafioti Match Heating Up The most interesting match at the start of day 2 so far has been between Matt Marafioti and Maxim Lykov. The two have been jousting early and often and that hasn’t gone so well for Lykov, who is currently out of rebuy chips. In perhaps the largest confrontation between the two so far, Lykov bet 3,500 from the button preflop and Marafioti raised to 10,500. Lykov then reraised all in and Marafioti made the call to cover him. Level 7 Update: Last Level of the NightJan 11, '10 Blinds: 400-800 with a 100 ante Notable Eliminations: John Duthie Big Hands: New Chip Leader Dmitry Stelmak is now stacked with a more than healthy 240,000 in chips. The bulk of the damage was done in two hands. On the first, he made a bigger full house than Justin “boostedJ” Smith to get started. A few hands later, he eliminated John Duthie when he made aces up with A-6. Chad Brown Doubles Through Mike Matusow Chad Brown and Mike Matusow somehow found themselves in a preflop raising war. When it ended, Brown was all in holding AK against Matusow’s pocket tens. The board fell 953A8 and Brown doubled up to 80,000 with his pair of aces. Matusow is still near average with 71,000. Alexandre Gomes Hits the Rail Team PokerStars Pro Alexandre Gomes is now out of the tournament thanks to a surging Kevin Saul. Gomes held pocket sevens and was willing to risk the rest of his stack with them, but Saul’s pocket aces could not be denied, making a full house to send the Brazilian packing. Left In The Deck: Unofficial Field Count and Prizes As has been the case with many of the tournaments at this year’s PCA, the official field sizes, prize pools and payouts must first be confirmed by PokerStars before they are released to the players and media. Due to the late hour, that will have to be taken care of tomorrow morning. But we have received word, unofficially, that there were 84 players in this year’s field. A whopping 16 of them will make the money, with first place receiving somewhere in the neighborhood of $575,000. Min-cashers will make about $40,000 for their efforts. Matt Marafioti Shows Up Registration has been closed for some time now, but half way through the final level of the evening, Matt Marafioti had not shown up. It turns out that Marafioti was just a few feet away, playing at the final two tables of the $5,000 no-limit hold’em event. After busting in 10th place, Marafioti raced over to the High Roller section and sat down with 36,000 of his original 50,000 in chips.
