Players are still filtering into the tournament area as the first level of the day nears its halfway mark. There are 35 entries in the field thus far, but registration is open for another eight levels before the Day 1A field is finalized.

While small, the field is full of poker talent. Pete Hengsakul, Sohale Khalili, World Poker Tour Champion Matt Salsberg, WPT Champion Jared Griener, Adam Volen, William Wolf, Jason Bral, and Card Player Poker Tour Oceans Eleven San Diego Poker Classic Champion Adam Weinraub are all in the field so far.

Matthew Salsberg Eliminated By Romuald Pycior

Romuald Pycior raised to 2,000 from the cutoff and Matt Salsberg moved all-in from the big blind for around 20,000.

Pycior called with the 1010 and found himself racing against Salsberg’s AQ.

The board came down J987J to give Pycior a straight. With that Salsberg was sent to the rail early in level 9.

Pycior chipped up to 67,000 after the hand.

Matt Salsberg Shoves The River

Matt Salsberg Busts, Re-Enters

Matt Salsberg was recently spotted taking his seat at a new table, and was kind enough to let us know how he busted on his first entry of the day.

According to Salsberg, a player limped from under-the-gun, and he limped behind him. There were two more callers before the button made it 1,900 to go. The under-the-gun player called, and Salsberg moved all-in for about 11,000 or so.

The button called with A-K, which had Salsberg’s A-Q dominated. The flop brought each player an ace, but Salsberg was unable to pair his kicker to stay alive. He’ll get a fresh 30,000 to work with, however, at his new table.

Matt Salsberg In The Mix

Matt Salsberg has taken a seat on day 1B of the 2017 Card Player Poker tour $400,000 guaranteed main event here at the Bicycle Hotel & Casino.

Salsberg has $2,384,553 in lifetime live tournament earnings and a World Poker Tour title under his belt, which he won at the 2012 Grand Prix de Paris.

The poker player was also the executive producer and writer of the hit Showtime show Weeds.

The dealer fanned 933 on the felt and action checked to Salsberg. He continued for 1,500 and his opponent called. The J came on the turn and both players checked to see the T on the river.

Salsberg’s opponent bet 3,500 on the river and Salsberg threw out a call. His opponent showed 99 for a flopped full house of nines full of treys. Salsberg flashed KQ for a straight before his hand was dropped into the muck.

The big blind went deep into the tank before eventually folding. It quickly folded around and Salsberg took down the small pot uncontested.

Kenneth Huber and Matt Salsberg were heads up on a completed board of 37AA6. The pot was built to 4,900 on the river and Huber was first to act. He bet 2,500 only to have Salsberg click it back to 5,000.

“I had a feeling you were going to do that,” said Huber. “And I said if you were going to do that I was going to call.”

Huber tossed out calling chips and tabled AK for trip aces. Salsberg had that beat, however, with 54 for a straight to the seven. Salsberg took the pot and brought his stack up to about 44,200.

2013 CPPT Venetian Main Event champion and WSOP Bracelet winner Allyn Shulman is in the field. Her husband, and two-time WSOP Bracelet winner Barry Shulman is also playing Day 1A. His most recent bracelet came after defeating Daniel Negreanu heads-up at the 2009 WSOP Europe Main Event.

Evan McNiff, who has $1.1 million in live tournament earnings, and 2013 World Poker Tour Player of the year Matt Salsberg is also looking to make it through the day. There are currently 45 players registered for the event as the first level nears its midway point.

Familiar Faces Littered Throughout Day 1A

There are still several hours left to register for the CPPT Bicycle Casino Main Event, but there is already a ton of firepower in the field.

2013 CPPT Venetian Main Event champion and WSOP Bracelet winner Allyn Shulman is in the field. Her husband, and two-time WSOP Bracelet winner Barry Shulman is also playing Day 1A. His most recent bracelet came after defeating Daniel Negreanu heads-up at the 2009 WSOP Europe Main Event.

Evan McNiff, who has $1.1 million in live tournament earnings, and 2013 World Poker Tour Player of the year Matt Salsberg is also looking to make it through the day. There are currently 45 players registered for the event as the first level nears its midway point.

With just 2,800 left, Matt Salsberg moved all-in from the hijack and got called by the cutoff. Massaud Mazhari was in the small blind and called as well.

The flop came 653 and Mazhari moved all-in.

“I hope you have it,” the cutoff said and folded AJ face-up.

Salsberg showed AQ and Mazhari tabled 54.

An 8 came on the turn and a 7 completed the board. Mazhari hit a straight and Salsberg’s day 1b came to an end.

Salsberg Triples Up With the Nuts

Matt Salsberg moved all in from the small blind for his last 5,900 with the board reading 9845. A player in middle position took a few moments before raising to 20,000 and the button quickly moved all in for just over 10,000.

“Deuce of spades please,” said Salsberg to the dealer as he tabled 76, giving him the nut straight.

The player in middle position was drawing dead against Salsberg with his JJ, but Salsberg needed to fade the board pairing against the button’s 99. The river was the 3 and Salsberg tripled up to 25,200. The button won a small side pot and was left with approximately 10,000 in chips.

Matthew Salsberg’s has been active at his table but his stack has yet to profit from it.

In one hand, Salsberg raised to 400 from middle position and got called by the button and small blind.

The flop came 749 and the button bet 650 when checked to. The small blind folded, Salsberg called and a 4 came on the turn. Salsberg checked again and the button bet 1,150.

Salsberg folded and his opponent showed him A9 before scooping up the pot. Salsberg is now down to about 21,000.

As promised, Matt Salsberg is back for day for 1B of the 2014 CPPT main event at the Bike.

The 2013 World Poker Tour Player of the Year finished in 22nd place in the first CPPT event at the Bike last May and will be looking to better that result this week.
