Level 17, Hour One: Frank Kassela EliminatedJul 13, '10 Blinds: 3,000-6,000 with a 1,000 ante Players Remaining: 576 out of 7,319 Average Chip Count: 381,198 Card Player Chip Counts Adam Schoenfeld — 270,000 Tournament Leaderboard: 1. Tony Dunst – 1,546,000 Notable Eliminations: Court Harrington Big Hands: Frank Kassela Eliminated Frank Kassela raised to 17,000 and the action folded around to the small blind. He moved all in and then the big blind came over the top of that for all his chips, having both opponents covered. Kassela made the call and tabled KK while the small blind showed QQ and the big blind tabled AQ. The flop came down Q73 and the small blind took the lead. The turn was the 4, giving the big blind the nut-flush draw. Sure enough, the river was the 2 and Kassela joined the small blind on the rail. With his cash, Kassela locked up at least a share of the 2010 WSOP Player of the Year award. If Michael Mizrachi does not win the main event, Kassela will claim the award outright. South Gives Up The Double Picking up the action on the flop, the board read K43 and Cole South checked. Tristan Wade then fired 22,000 and South check-raised to 57,000. Wade then shoved all in for 307,000 and South made the call. Wade: AQ South flopped two pair but had to fade Wade’s nut-flush draw. The turn gave Wade more outs as the A fell and the river was the 8, making Wade his flush. Wade was up to 652,000 after the double up while South was down to 186,000. Scotty Chipping Up A player moved all in for 34,000 and the action folded around to Scotty Nguyen in the big blind. He made the call and turned over pocket aces, dominating his opponent’s A5. The board ran out J8410Q and Nguyen scored the knockout. He was up to 600,000 after the hand. Chiu Eliminated David Chiu moved in for his last 16,000 and Theo Jorgensen made the call. Chiu: 88 Chiu was racing but he caught a flat tire when the flop fell JJ9. giving Jorgensen trips. The turn was the 10, giving Chiu some outs to a straight, but the river was the 10 to fill up Jorgensen and Chiu hit the rail. Player Tags: Scotty Nguyen, Frank Kassela, David Chiu, Theo Jorgensen, Cole South Level 20 Hour Two Update: Richey Goes BustoJul 14, '10 Blinds: 6,000-12,000 with a 2,000 ante 1. Theo Jorgensen – 3,200,000 Brett Richey Bretty Richey Busto Dan Lu raised to 30,000 from the cutoff and Brett Richey three-bet to 90,000 from the button. After the blinds folded, Lu moved all-in and Richey made the call with his last 340,000 and showed 55. He was going to need some help from the dealer when he saw Lu’s 1010. Richey was stood up to leave the table after the turn as the board ran out QJ6103. Lu is over the million mark with the pot. Jan Boye Doubles, But Still Short Jan Boye moved all-in for 59,000 from the hijack and Christopher Bolt made the call from the big blind. Boye showed AK and was ahead of Bolt’s Q9. Bolt failed to improve and Boye doubled up to a still short 142,000. Jorgensen Takes Over Chip Lead Theo Jorgensen raised to 38,000 from the cutoff and Dorothy VonSachsen moved all-in for 75,000 from the button. Jorgensen made the call and the cards were turned on their backs. Jorgensen showed A6 and was up against the K10 of VonSachsen. The board ran out AKJ94 and one of the last women standing was sent to the rail. Jorgensen is at 3,200,000 in chips and looks to be the chip leader at the moment. Fennell Busts Billirakis Four players saw a flop of Q62. James Fennell checked from the big blind, another player checked, and Steve Billirakis bet 58,000. Garrett Adelstein called and Fennell made it 175,000. The other player got out of the way and only Billirakis called the check-raise. The turn was the 5 and Fennell bet 230,000. Billirakis then moved all-in for 734,000 and was called by Fennell. It was an unfortunate turn card for Billirakis who turned two pair with his 56 and was still behind the set of Fennell who tabled 22. The river was the 8 and Billirakis was sent to the rail. On the other hand, Fennell is just under 2,000,000 in chips. Racener in Cruise Control On the river, John Racner fired out 365,000 into a pot that already had about 500,000 in the middle with the board reading J8QKJ. Jeff Banghart called the bet, but couldn’t rake the pot as Racener showed A10, giving him broadway. Racener is now at 2,150,000 and Banghart dropped to 330,000. Dudley’s Dreams Dashed Dash Dudley was all-in for KJ for 183,000 and Sergey Serafimov called from the small blind with AK. Dudley was in bad shape as the board came out 95483 and Dudley was eliminated from this year’s main event. Siegel Gets the Best of Kostritsyn Jordan Siegel got his last 322,000 into the middle preflop and got a call from Alexander Kostritsyn. Kostritsyn held pocket tens, but was behind Siegel’s pocket aces. The flop came 710A, leaving Kostritsyn drawing to just the case ten for the win. The turn was the 7 and the river was the 3, which couldn’t give Kostritsyn quads for a sick beat. Two players at the table claimed they had folded aces after the hands were turned up, so they are either playing with an illegal deck of cards, or the players’ memory are slipping a bit. Bellande Busts One Steven Padres moved all-in preflop and was called by Jean-Robert Bellande. Bellande was in a commanding position with his KK against Padre’s QQ. The board ran out A927K to give Bellande the pot and if Bellande keeps running like this, maybe he wont be “BrokelivingJRB” on twitter anymore. He is now up to 1,260,000. Mizrachi Doubles On a flop of 988, Robert Mizrachi moved all-in for his last 132,000 and was called by Vern Keller. Mizrachi showed KK and Keller tabled 95. The board finished off QJ and Mizrachi doubled up to 370,000. The Mizrachi count is at two with both him and his brother Michael in the tournament. They checked again and Mizrachi tabled 66. Le mucked and Mizrachi took down the pot. He was at 5.8 million after the hand. Ochana Nails The Set Gabriel Alarie raised to 115,000 from the cutoff and Edward Ochana made the call from the button. The flop came down QJ5 and Alarie checked. Ochana fired 140,000 and Alarie raised it up to 440,000. Ochana then repopped to 1.4 million. Alarie had enough and mucked. Ochana then turned over 55 for a flopped set. He was up to 5.8 million. Todd Witteles Out Todd Witteles moved all in for his last 126,000 and Evan Lamprea tried to isolate by three-betting. But Niklas Toorell made the call to create a side pot and the flop came down J83. Both players checked and the turn was the 3. They checked again and did the same when the 7 fell on the river. Witteles showed A9 for complete air. Lamprea showed AQ and it was good enough to take it down, sending Witteles out of the tournament. Statz Flushes Jacobo We caught up with this hand on the river. The board had run out J10982 and Benjamin Statz bet 500,000. Jacobo Fernandez looked him up and Statz showed K4 for the king-high flush. Fernandez tabled 75 for a lower flush and he slipped to 900,000. Statz was at 3.1 million. Jorgensen Takes One Theo Jorgensen limped in from the small blind and Duy Le checked from the big blind. The two saw a flop of AK6 and they both checked. The turn was the 3 and Jorgensen bet 50,000. Le made the call and the river was the Q. Jorgensen bet another 100,000 and Le mucked. Brokos raised to 80,000 from the button and Eric Baldwin moved in for 780,000 from the small blind. Brokos made the call and the hands were shown. Brokos: A8 The flop came J64 and Baldwin jumped in front. The turn was the 10 and Baldwin nailed two pair to leave Brokos drawing dead. The river was the 9 and Baldwin doubled up to 1.4 million while Brokos was down to 780,000. Clements Has Aces Cracked Scott Clements raised to 95,000 preflop and Brian Jensen moved all in for 680,000. Clements snapped him off with pocket aces. Jensen held pocket tens and the flop fell K83. Boom Picking up the action on the turn, the board read 763K and Fokke Beukers moved all in for about 2 million chips. Theo Jorgensen snap-called and turned over K6 for turned two pair. Beukers tabled AK for top pair on the turn and he was in trouble. The river was the 4 and Beukers was eliminated. Jorgensen soared to the chip lead after that massive pot, holding 8 million. Left In The Deck Last Level Of The Night The players were originally scheduled to play five complete levels today. However, Jack Effel has announced that this will be the last level of the night, meaning the field will exit one hour earlier than expected. Furthermore, if the players begin to bust at an accelerated rate, play may be stopped even earlier. The word around the Amazon Room is that the target number of players to start Day 7 on Friday is 81, which was about 15 eliminations away at the start of the level. Todd Witteles Out Todd Witteles moved all in for his last 126,000 and Evan Lamprea tried to isolate by three-betting. But Niklas Toorell made the call to create a side pot and the flop came down J83. Clements Has Aces Cracked Scott Clements raised to 95,000 preflop and Brian Jensen moved all in for 680,000. Clements snapped him off with pocket aces. Jensen held pocket tens and the flop fell K83. The word around the Amazon Room is that the target number of players to start Day 7 on Friday is 81, which was about 15 eliminations away at the start of the level. Duhamel Joins the Top of the Leaderboard Jonathan Duhamel raised under-the-gun to 210,000 with Filippo Candio making the call from the button and Patrick Eskandar calling from the small blind. All three players checked the flop and on the turn the board read K369. Eskandar checked and Duhamel bet 360,000. Candio called and Eskandar folded. The river was the 10 and Duhamel bet 215,000. Candio raised to 715,000 but Duhamel called pretty quickly. Candio announced “sevens” and Duhamel showed KJ and took the pot. Duhamel has now crossed the 10 million chip threshold. Senti Scores a Double Matthew Bucaric raised to 200,000 under-the-gun and got a call from Jason Senti, Dag Palovic, and Robert Pisano. The flop came AJ5 and it checked over to Senti who bet 525,000. After two folds, Bucaric check-raised all-in and Senti called off his last 2,100,000 and was at risk. Senti showed the AJ and was way ahead of Bucaric’s AK. The 6 was the turn card and the 2 fell on the river to double up to 6,100,000. Clements Doubles Through Statz Scott Clements shoved all-in for 2,070,000 after a raise of 200,000 from Benjamin Statz. It folded back to Statz who made the call with KK and was ahead of Clements AK. The flop was kind to Clements when it came A105 and gave him the lead. The 3 on the turn and the 7 river card sealed the deal for Clements to double up to just over 4,000,000. Cuong Nguyen Takes Over Chip Lead With Monster Pot Brandon Steven raised to 225,000 from late position and got calls from Theo Jorgensen in the small blind and Cuong Nguyen from the big blind. They saw a flop of K59 and after both blinds checked, Steven bet out 525,000. Jorgensen made the call and Nguyen made it 1,500,000. Steven got out of the way before Jorgensen made it 4,000,000 and Nguyen moved all-in for 7,620,000. Jorgensen called and there was 19,520,000 in the middle. Jorgensen showed A3, good for the nut flush draw and Nguyen tabled the KJ, good for top pair. The turn was the 10, missing Jorgensen and keeping Nguyen in the lead. The river was the 3 and Jorgensen lost the chip lead and Nguyen was left stacking a gigantic pile of chips. Nguyen now took over the chip lead with 19,520,000. Furthermore, if the players begin to bust at an accelerated rate, play may be stopped even earlier. The word around the Amazon Room is that the target number of players to start Day 7 on Friday is 81, which was about 15 eliminations away at the start of the level. He got one of them with the J on the turn, to give him a gutshot straight draw, but the A on the river gave Mizrachi aces full and he doubled up to 3,590,000 in chips. Thorson still has well over 10,000,000 after the loss. Babel Gets His Ace to Double Jakob Toestesen raised to 200,000 from early position and Benjamin Statz called from the cutoff. Nicolas Babel shoed all-in for 1,915,000 and after Toestesen folded, Statz eventually made the call. It was a coinflip for just about 4,200,000. Toestesen showed 1010 and Babel showed AK. The board ran out 9859A and the ace on the river shot Babel up and into the arms of his supporters on the rail. Statz fell to 5,100,000 with the loss. Assouline Sent Home On the turn the board read AQ6A and it was heads-up between David Assouline and Pascal LeFrancois. Assouline checked and LeFrancois bet 560,000. Assouline made the call and the J fell on the river. LeFrancois fired all-in and after Assouline checked. Assouline had just about 2,700,000 and went into the tank. After a few minutes, Assouline made the call with KK. LeFrancois tabled the AJ, giving him the second nuts and Assouline was eliminated in 44th place. Berkey Busts Filippo Candio raised to 225,000 under-the-gun and Johnny Lodden made it 700,000 in the cutoff. Matthew Berkey called off his last 85,000 in the small blind and Candio called the three-bet as well. The flop came J10Q and Candio fired 475,000 and takes down the side pot when Lodden folds. Candio only had 55, but was ahead of Berkey’s 42. Berkey couldn’t find miracle running cards and he was eliminated. Candio is now up to 11,000,000 in chips. Luis Takes One off Racener Damien Luis raised to 180,000 before John Racener three-bet to 440,000. Luis made the call and they checked it down to the river as the board came 7A107Q. Eduardo Parras moved all-in for 2,810,000 from the big blind and Payne re-shoved over the top to isolate Parras. Jorgensen got out of the way and it was time for a showdown. It was yet another race. Parras showed QQ and Payne tabled AK. The board ran out pretty dry for Payne as the dealer dealt out the J10735. Parras doubled up to 6,300,000 and Payne is left with 1,350,000. Theo Gotta GoFeb 18, '09 Theo Jorgensen met an untimely end when his set of sixes ran up against Andrea Benelli's full house - jacks full of sixes. It was quite apt that the Italian took the Dane out, landing the fatal blow, after crippling him earlier. Jorgensen had made it back to 23,000 and really played a blinder today, but lady luck would not have it, and he is now out of the Scandinavian Open.
Player Tags: Theo Jorgensen, Andrea Benelli "So Sick"Feb 18, '09 The sound of "That's so sick" drew attention to one of the tables. On a flop of 753 Theo Jorgensen bet 9,000 and Andrea Benelli shoved all-in. Jorgensen who was heavily stacked insta-called as fast as he possibly could and the two flipped over their cards. Jorgensen: K-K Benelli: 8-8 The turn is the A and the river the 4. The only thing was one of Benelli's eights had a club attached... hence "so sick". The pot was worth just about 63,000 and all Jorgensen's hard work was diminished in a moment. Benelli looks set to be among chip leaders, if not the chip leader. Jorgensen is still pale, and straight on his cell phone for some kind of consolation it appears.
Player Tags: Theo Jorgensen, Andrea Benelli Jorgensen Unleashes the FuryFeb 18, '09 With the boxing match to look forward to at the end of the week, Theo Jorgensen must be in fighting-fit form. Starting early, he just crippled one player, and knocked out another all in one blast. It was A-A versus K-K versys 10-10 with no surprises on the board. Of course, it was Jorgensen who had the aces and has left a trail of destruction in his wake.
