Level 4 Update: Another Pro Eliminated With a FlushMay 31, '09 Blinds: 75-150 Players Remaining: 2,000 out of 3,021 Notable Eliminations: David Chiu Big Hands: David Chiu Eliminated David Chiu raised pre-flop with the 103 and was called by the big blind who held the K7. The flop came out ten high with two spades, putting Chiu out in front with top pair and a flush draw. However, his opponent with a higher flush draw, called Chiu’s all-in bet of just under 10 big blinds (1,450) and hit the spade on the turn. Both players nailed their flush, but Chiu was drawing dead for the river and was sent home on day 1. Chiu continues the trend of big name pros knocked out of the event holding a flush. Paul Darden Doubles Up Paul Darden gets it all-in with AK on a board of AA297. Not sure when the money got in, but Darden is up over 4,000 after this hand. Shawn Sheikhan Doubles up The player in seat 2 raises to 400 from middle position and Shawn Sheikhan calls from the small blind. The flop comes AQ3, seat 2 bets 700 and Sheikhan calls. The river is the 3, and seat 2 bets enough to put Sheikhan all-in. Sheikhan calls all-in for 675 and turns over AA for top set. His opponent shows AK for top pair and ships the pot. Sheikhan doubles up to 3,500 this hand. Daniel Negreanu Moves All-in After min-raising to 300 pre-flop, Daniel Negreanu was re-raised to 750 by an opponent in seat 9. Negreanu called and both players saw a flop of 247. Negreanu checked and his opponent bet 1,000. Negreanu contemplated briefly before moving all in for 1,575 total, 575 more. His opponent went into the tank for minutes before eventually folding pocket tens face up. Negreanu said, “I thought you were calling,” before mucking his cards. Negreanu is up to 4,300 in chips. Dario Minieri Doubles Up From the button, Dario Minieri moved all-in for 2,075 with K9 and was called by the 33 of seat 8. The flop came out 457 and Minieri was in bad shape, as his opponent added a gut-shot straight draw to go along with his pocket pair. The Q hit the turn and the Italian pro was down to his last card. The 9 hit the river, giving the bracelet winner a pair of nines to double up to 4,150. Left In The Deck The players are on a 20 minute break. Omaha 8 / Stud 8 Level 6Jun 05, '08 There is currently a break while the tournament staff takes away the $25 chips. Play should resume shortly. Stud 8: 100 ante, 150 bring in, 400-800 limits Players left: 232 of 388 Average chip stack: $7,348 Chip counts: Scott Clements - 21,500 Players eliminated: Daniel Negreanu Hands: Matthews holds on to last few chips After check-calling on the flop, Davidson Matthews again checks on the turn with the board 7ATK. His opponent bets 800, and Matthews counts out his chips and sees he has 1,300 left. Eventually, he opts to fold, and put his tourney life on the line in a different situation. Darden goes out in stud 8 A player raises Paul Darden's bring in and Darden opts to go all in and take a chance. However, he is up against a pair of aces. By seventh street he shows QT6793T, which loses to his opponents two pair, aces and twos. Quad aces on river pushes pot Griffin's way After check calling all the way, Gavin Griffin quickly bets on the river with the board showing A-A-T-Q-A. His opponent is clearly unhappy with the river, but makes the call. Griffin flips over A-4-4-2 for four aces, and his opponent shows K-J for a straight before tossing away his cards. The mixed limit tournament area is not gathering a lot of attention from the spectators in the Amazon Room today, two other events are running simultaneously and a fourth is on its way. The $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E event is drawing almost every spectator in the house and the field literally reads like a who's who list of poker professionals. Dwarfing both events in sheer size is the largest Senior's Event in history and a Pot Limit Omaha eight-or-better tournament is set to start at five.Still in the field after one level of play are Pual Sexton, Phil Gordon, Scott Bohlman, Shannon Shorr, J.C. Tran, Pual "The Truth" Darden and "Miami" John Cernuto who started the day in the Senior's event. Sexton was able to triple up in the limit portion of this level with limits of $800-$1,600. Sexton was all in against the players in seats one and seven. The players in seats one and seven check all the way down and at the end the board showed 4 3 2 8 2. The player in seat seven showed A J for ace high and Sexton was holding A Q for ace high with a higher kicker. Sexton tripled up to over $5,000 after the hand. The game switched to no limit with blinds of $300-$600 halfway through the level and Jeff Lisandro was ready to gamble. The player in seat one raised all in from the cut off and Lisandro was more than happy to call from the big blind. The player in seat one showed K 4 and Lisandro called with K 7. "Let's dance!" said Lisandro after he tabled his cards. The board came Q 6 4 J 8 and the player in seat one paired his four. Lisandro lost around $7,000 on the hand but still sits with a large stack. Several hands later at the same table "Miami" John Cernuto pushed all in and was called by the player in seat one. Seat one showed A-K and Cernuto pushed with A-9. The flop came K-Q-8 and the player in seat one finally thought his losing days were over. The turn and the river were running nines for Cernuto and he was able to double up to $9,000. The player in seat one was so upset after the hand the he got out of his chair and chastised Cernuto for being so lucky. Player Tags: John Cernuto, J.C. The Next Big ThingJun 21, '07 Its amazing looking into a sea of poker players, only recognizing a few sharks as you go along. It makes you wonder if the next "big thing" in poker is sitting in the field today, just waiting to be discovered. The pros are sparsely located throughout the many tournament areas today, and many of them are still waiting to be seated as alternates. The ones that do see each other always have something nice to say. Gavin Smith sat down at his table in the pavillion, looked one table over to Paul Darden, and needled him for his slim appearance, first noting that he was "wasting away, and then asking, "Do you have to run around in the shower to get wet" The first question Smith asks his new tablemates was "Who's stealing?" It shows that a benefit to showing up a tad late to your table is to be able to tell based on who holds the most low denomination chips, who is most aggressive preflop. Later in the tournament, the aggressive tournament players stock pile the low denomination 'ante' chips by constantly stealing the blinds. Ed Moncada stopped by Bryan Micon and Phil Laak's table briefly to note that they were the only people he recognized within 30 yards of his table. Laak also got a visit from Jennifer Tilly, who had Kings cracked and was eliminated soon after in the first level.
