Both players checked, but when the 8 hit on the turn Sexton fired out a bet of 600. Seat 3 called. The river was the 6 and Sexton bet 1,500. Seat 3 reraised, doubling Sexton’s bet to 3,000. As Sexton thought it over seat 3 said, “Runner-runner,” and smiled, alluding to the runner-runner flush he had made. Sexton responded with, “I see that. The thing is, I made runner-runner.” Sexton eventually called, and sure enough both players were telling the truth. Their hands: Seat 3: AQ Seat 3 showed the ace-high flush and Sexton’s 10-high flush was no good. He sighed and turned to watch the conclusion of the Germany-Spain World Cup action. He had around 26,400 in chips after the loss. Jaka Makes Big Lay Down Entering the action late, Faraz Jaka looked pained as he pondered his opponent’s bet of 13,000 on a board of AQ8K7. Jaka eventually folded AQ face up. He still had around 35,000 after the hand. The floor was called over and ruled that the bet was 15,000. Phan made the call regardless and both players checked the 7 on the river. “Nines,” Deeb told Phan, never turning over his hand. Level 4 Update -- Phil Laak Is BackOct 21, '09 Blinds: 200-400 with a 50 ante Players Left: 213 of 241 (Approximately) Chip Leaders Phil Laak — 203,000 Notable Eliminations: Alec Torelli Level Summary: Despite the relatively low blinds and deep stack play, many found level 4 to be a level filled with big hands and big stacks moving up and down the leader board. The Unabomber, Phil Laak is now at the top of the chip counts, cracking the 200,000 mark. Joining him are notables such as Jason Somerville, who is parlaying his time at the featured table to a 175,000 stack. David “bakes” Baker is now in the top ten thanks to a fortunate flop that saw him sitting with a set of nines against his opponent’s pocket aces. The turn put a four-card straight on board, but that didn’t stop the money from getting in. The river harmlessly paired the board and Baker chipped up to 125,000. On the other side of the spectrum is Sam Stein, who made back-to-back WPT final tables earlier this year. He called Chau Giang’s all in with trip sevens on a Q-7-7 board, but Giang showed pocket queens to double up to 120,000, leaving Stein with a crippled 10,000 stack. The remaining players will now get set for their final level of the evening. Player Tags: Phil Laak, Chau Giang, David Baker, Sam Stein Level 8 Update: Registration Closed, Officals Numbers To FollowOct 22, '09 Blinds: 600-1,200 with a 100 ante Players Left: 149 of 273 (Approximately) Average Chip Count 109,000 Chip Leaders Chau Giang — 380,000 Card Player Chip Counts Mike Matusow — 245,000 Notable Eliminations: Erik Cajelais Level Summary: Chau Giang started the day by passing Mike Matusow for the chip lead, but faltered a bit this level when he was passed by Corwin Cole. Cole jumped out to a stack of 340,000 and became the first player to cross the 300,000 mark, but Giang made a leap of his own and now owns the tournament room’s highest count with 380,000. Jason Somerville admitted to having a bad level 7 but picked it right back up when he eliminated John Juanda to close level 8. Somerville and Juanda found themselves playing for it all on a board reading KQ59. Juanda showed 76 for the made flush, but was drawing to one out when Somerville showed Q10 for the better flush. The river bricked with the 7 and Juanda was eliminated from the tournament, boosting Somerville’s stack to 240,000. Speaking of eliminations, we lost about 30 players during the level and are now left with 149 of the 273 who have registered.
