Seat 4 raised to 1,500 and Vanessa Selbst called from the button. Seat 7 raised to 5,000 and action came back around to seat 4, who called. Selbst thought for a moment and asked seat 4 for a chip count. He counted his stacks out (about 30,000) and Selbst bet enough to put both him and seat 7 all in. Seat 7 insta-called for his last 15,000 and seat 4 looked pained and after a minute he folded QQ face up.
Selbst was heads up with seat 7. Their hands:
Selbst: 1010
Seat 7: KK
Selbst was well behind as the flop ran JKA. Her opponent flopped a set and Selbst was in need of a queen for a straight. Instead, the K turned and her opponent hit quads. The 9 finished the board and Selbst lost a chunk of her stack. She still had around 60,000 after the hand.
Wattel Can’t Top Queens
A player opened to 1,100 from middle position and called from the cutoff. Everybody else folded and the flop came 4610 and Wattel called a bet of 2,000 from his opponent.

A player limped in the pot and David Saab bet 1,450 from late position. A player in the blinds called and the limper called. The flop came 962 and both players checked to Saab. Saab bet 2,200 and the player in the blind raised to 100,000. The limper folded and and Saab thought about it for less than a minute before announcing all in for a little more than the raise. His opponent insta-called and tabled the A7 and was behind the 98 of Saab. With over 200,000 in the middle, the 6 pealed off the deck. Saab’s opponent hit the nut flush and Saab was drawing dead. The river was a 5 and it was official. Day 2b has a new overall chip leader — Charles Alexandre Sylvestre. He was at over 260,000 after the hand.

Swick Takes Hit From Schneider
Tom Schneider and UFC fighter Mike Swick were heads up on a flop of 67A. Schneider bet 3,000 and Swick raised enough to put Schneider all in for his last 10,000 or so.
Tom made the call and saw that he was ahead, but Swick had plenty of outs. Their hands:
Swick: AJ
Schneider: AK
Swick was one card away from the flush, but the board bricked with a 9 turn and 8 river. Schneider took the pot to double up to around 20,000. Swick was left with around 15,000.

Lubarsky Dodges Straight Flush Draw
Hal Lubarsky and his opponent saw a flop of J1010 and then proceeded to get all of their chips into the middle. Lubarsky showed A10, giving him trip tens, but had to dodge some cards when he saw that his opponent had 78, good for a straight flush draw.
The turn was the 6 and the river was the K and Lubarsky’s hand held up, doubling him up to 40,000.
Wahlbeck Doubles Again, This Time With The Best Hand
Ville Wahlbeck got his second double up in the last hour, but this time he didn’t need to suck out on the river. Wahlbeck raised from the cutoff and was three-bet by the big blind. Wahlbeck put in another raise and the blind made the call.
The flop came 842 and Wahlbeck moved all in after a check from the small blind. The small blind called and showed QQ, but Wahlbeck had KK. The turn and river were safe for Wahlbeck and he now has just over 90,000 in chips.
Roller Coaster Beginning for Micon
Bryan Micon called a 1,700 bet preflop and saw a flop heads-up against his opponent. The flop was J34 and both players checked. The turn was the 7 and after his opponent checked, Micon bet 2,200, which was called. The river was the J and Micon bet 2,625 after his opponent checked again. Micon’s bet was called and he showed AJ and his opponent mucked.
A few hands later, Micon lost a little of that back when he held AA and got it all in preflop against a shorter stack’s KK. A king fell on the flop to dent Micon’s stack. He is still sitting on 42,000.
Bonomo Hits a Gutter, Cracks a Set
There was some flop action on a flop of 1059 and Justin Bonomo was heads-up with his opponent for the J that fell on the turn. All of the money got in through a series of raises and Bonomo turned over KQ, giving him the nut straight.
Bonomo needed to dodge the board pairing, as his opponent had flopped bottom set and tabled 55. When the river was the 3, Bonomo’s straight was safe and he now has 152,000.
Mitch Schock brought it in and Shannon Shorr completed. Schock reraised and Shorr made the all-in call. Shorr put the last of his chips at risks and the cards fell as follows:
Shorr: (KJ)A4J3(3)
Schock: (87)KQAK(5)
Schock eliminated Shorr with a Q-8 and action was down to four players.

J.C. Tran is in a league of his own right now. He is knocking people out with extreme prejudice.
The player in seat 3 was all in for 1,200 before the flop and the player in seat 8 called, along with Tran. The flop came 1097. Seat 8 led out with 4,800 and Tran made the call. The turn was the Q and seat 8 checked. Tran fired 7,400 and seat 8 called. The river dropped with the 8, putting a four-card straight on the board. See where this is going folks? Both players checked and Tran showed 66 for a rivered straight and seat 8 mucked, as did seat 3 who was knocked out. But Tran was not done with his opponent there.
A few hands later with a flop of Q104, seat 8 bet 5,200 and Tran popped it to 12,000 total. Seat 8 was tired of being bullied and moved all in. Tran made the call and showed AQ for top pair while his opponent showed A3 for a flush draw. But J.C. Tran is on fire today, so of course the board finished off 6J securing him the pot and adding another knockout to his belt. His stack is around 80,000.
Micon Steals the Big Blind
Action folded around to Bryan Micon in the big blind and he raised to 10,200. The big blind quickly mucked and Micon took down the big blind and antes. His stack was at 16,000.

Her stack dropped under 20,000.
By Hook or By Crook, Monnette Takes Huge Pot

The river brought the 9 and Monnette kept his foot on the throttle firing 20,000 and his opponent mucked. Monnette then showed the 4 and raked in the huge pot, putting his stack over 80,000.
Three players limped, including Shawn Sheikhan from the big blind. The flop came KQJ and everyone checked. The turn was the 5 and Sheikhan put 1,200 into the middle. One player folded, but the button in seat 1 stuck around and both players saw the 9 on the river. Sheikhan checked and his opponent quickly bet 2,000. Sheikhan asked the dealer a question, then flashed the 6 and mucked his hand with a laugh. He was down to 7,700.
Somerville Takes a Pot

Preflop, Tom Dobrilovic raised to 800 and action folded to seat 7. He reraised to 2,100 and Dobrilove pushed all in. His opponent called, putting himself all in. The player in seat 8 raised to 900 from middle position and action folded to Bryan Micon in the small blind. He reraised to 3,500 total and the player in seat 8 mucked his hand. Micon took the pot and improved to 5,100.

The Flack and Esfandiari Show
Over at table 43 in the Brasilia Room, Layne Flack and Antonio Esfandiari are sitting right next to each other. The two were already very chatty with no one watching, but once the cameras arrived, the show began.
With Esfandiari in the big blind, Flack mucked his hand from under the gun. "If that hand flips over," Flack began. "Everything I've worked for with my reputation will go 'pffft'," he said as he signaled a thumbs down for the camera. Meanwhile, the player in seat 9 saw fit to raise Esfandiari's blind as he threw out 1,100 from the button. The small blind folded and "The Magician" repopped to 3,500. "Antonio is here to let you know that we do the raising around here," said Flack. Seat 9 caught the message and mucked his hand. This set up a very interesting battle on the next hand.
Action folded around to Esfandiari in the small blind and he raised to 1,000 straight. Layne Flack made the call from the big blind and the two players were heads up going to the flop. It came down A55. Esfandiari checked and Flack fired 1,000. After a call from Esfandiari, the turn came down with the Q. Esfandiari checked again and Flack bet 1,500. Esfandiari made another called and checked the river as the 9 fell. "Things are about to get ugly, dad!" Flack said into the camera before the river came. He then bet 4,000 and Esfandiari mucked. "I had it," Flack told "The Magician." Flack was at around 44,000.
Spinoff for Antonio
Esfandiari separated himself from Flack on the next hand as the player in seat 8 raised to 800. Esfandiari called from the button and Flack folded his small blind. The flop came down KQ7. Seat 8 fired a continuation bet of 1,200. "The Magician" went nowhere as he made the call and both players saw the 9 come on the turn. Seat 8 slowed down, checking to Esfandiari. He fired 3,300 into the pot and seat 8 disappeared from the hand. Esfandiari raked in the pot and he was around 80,000 in chips.
And Now, Back to Flack
Table 43 was then broken and both player were moved to different tables. But the two players were still within earshot of each other as Flack got involved in a hand.
Action folded around to the small blind who raised to 1,100 and Flack defended from the big blind. The flop K103 and both players checked. The turn was the 10, pairing the board. The small blind then fired 2,000 into the pot. Flack called and the river was the 5. The small blind checked the third heart to Flack and he fired 6,000 into the middle. The small blind said, "Do you have the flush?" as he made the call. Flack shook his head and threw his hand into the muck. The small blind showed A10 and he raked the pot.
Hevad Khan Picks Off a Huge Bluff
Khan raised to 800 from the cutoff and the player in seat 4 made the call from the big blind. The flop came 1043 and the big blind checked to Khan. He fired 1,200 into the pot and the big blind check-raised to 2,800 total. Khan made a quick call and the A hit on the turn. The big blind fired 5,800 at the pot and sent Khan into the tank. He asked his opponent how many chips he had left (12,600). Khan then made the call after a few more moments of thought. The river was the J and the big blind actually tanked for three minutes on his own action before finally deciding check. Khan checked behind his opponent and the big blind mucked his hand. There was a debate at the table on whether Khan needed to show his hand. He eventually did, showing Q10 for middle pair. He raked the pot and his stack was at 46,000 after the hand.
Ryan Young With a Shout Out
Three-handed and on a flop of 852, Phil Gordon bet 1,700 and the player in seat 2 raised 4,500. Ryan Young then repopped to 11,000 total. Gordon mucked and seat 2 did as well after tanking for a few moments. Young looked up and said, "This is for Card Player," as he showed Q8 for top pair.
Jesus Walks... Out
On a board reading AQ73, action was checked to Chris Ferguson. He fired 2,000 and one player called. The big blind folded and the river was the 6. Ferguson pushed his last 3,000 into the middle and his opponent quickly called. Ferguson turned over 77 for a flopped set of sevens. They weren't so lucky, though, as his opponent showed K6 for the nut flush on the flop. Ferguson stood up and made his exit from the main event.
The Legend Continues
Over at table 7 in the Brasilia Room, Tommy "Legend" Le eliminated one of his opponents as Le had a set of threes. It was good news and bad news for "Legend" as he brought his stack to 50,000 but he also saw the empty seat filled by Shane "Shaniac" Schleger.
With Allen and Leroy already eliminated today and Nam busting yesterday, Tommy "Legend" is the last of the Le brothers left in the 2008 WSOP main event.
Todd Brunson Shoots Down A Couple Of Cowboys
Preflop, an unfortunate opponent raised to 1,000, only to have Todd Brunson min raise behind him to a total of 2,000. The player then made the fourth bet, making it 5,000. Brunson ended the baby raising by making a man-sized shove all in for over 12,000. The player made the call, showing KK. He was crushed by Brunson's AA, which improved to a set by the river, the board running out Q52AJ. The player was eliminated, and Brunson was up to 26,000 after the hand.
Shulman Takes Pot Without Showdown
Jeff Shulman raised to 900 from the button and was called by the player in the big blind. On a flop of J52, the big blind checked to Shulman, who bet 1,700. The big blind made the call and the Q fell on the turn. Both players checked, but when the 2 fell on the river the big blind bet 2,000. Shulman wasted little time raised to 4,500, sending the big blind into the tank. He eventually folded and Shulman took a pot containing around 5,000 in chips without showing down, boosting his stack to around 34,000.
Minieri Makes Big Laydown
Action was limped to Dario Minieri, who raised to 1,400 from middle position. Seat 6 and seat 4 called and action was checked to Minieri on a flop of AQ5. He bet 2,900 and only seat 6 called. The 7 came on the turn and Minieri slowed down, checking to seat 6 who bet 5,000. Minieri thought and said he put his opponent on A-Q. "That's the sickest fold of my life," Minieri said as he laid his hand down. His opponent didn't respond as he scooped the pot. Minieri said he folded A-K.
Sick Bluff From The Italian
Mid-way through the level Minieri was in a hand where his opponent bet 1,500 on the flop of AQ7. Minieri raised to 3,600 and his opponent called. The Js fell on the turn and Minieri moved all in. A camera crew swarmed the table as Minieri's opponent thought over his decision. The player eventually mucked and Minieri showed 25 for a huge bluff. After the hand Minieri sat with 19,000 in chips.
Micon Bets Out One Opponent, Eliminates Another
With the player in seat 9 all in and seat 4 also in the hand, Bryan Micon thought for a minute before re-popping it to 3,350. Seat 4 thought then mucked JJ face up. It was a good laydown as Micon showed AA and was against the all in seat 9's 99. The flop brought QJ5, which would've given seat 4 a set if he had stayed in the hand. The turn was the 4, giving seat 9 a flush draw and more outs. But the 10 hit on the river and Micon eliminated a player and added to his chip stack.
Day 2 has come to an end. Almost 2,400 players played in Day 2B and only 855 made it to Day 3. There are no more flight days from here on in. The 1,324 players who survived Day 2 will gather in the Amazon Room Wednesday at noon and play another five levels. It may be a day that see's the field reach the 666 player mark, signaling the money bubble. Tune in to Card Player then for all of the live updates from Day 3 of the 2008 main event.

"The Goofball Beat Me, Honey!"
Phil Hellmuth raised to 4,000 under the gun and the player in seat 5 made the call. The flop came Q55 and Hellmuth checked, letting seat 5 bet 7,000. Hellmuth called and again checked when the 5 hit on the turn. Seat 5 bet 10,000 and Hellmuth removed his shades and studied the board and his opponent. After asking his opponent how much he had left, Hellmuth just called. The 10 fell on the river and seat 5 pushed all in for about 40,000. "Okay buddy, you win this one," Hellmuth said as he mucked his hand. "My turn next time, okay?"
But it wasn't okay with the layer in seat 5. Two hands later Hellmuth bet 7,500 on a flop of K53 and only seat 5 made the call. The A hit on the turn and Hellmuth led out for 13,000. Seat 5 announced he was all in and Hellmuth was stunned. He mucked and jumped from his seat to talk to his wife.
"The goofball beat me, honey!" he said to her. "He might be the worst player here by far."
But Hellmuth's confidence was still not shaken as he said, "I want to tell you something. He's going to be drawing dead against me in the next 10 minutes."
Chan Doubles, Demands Micon Gets His Drink
Johnny Chan raised to 4,600 from late position and was called by the big blind. The flop was J82 and the big blind led out for 11,000. Chan reached to his stack and re-raised, making it 26,000 more to go. The big blind wasted little time pushing all in, having Chan covered by around 12,000. Chan made the call and was all in for his tournament life. The big blind flipped up JJ for top set and was in the lead. But Chan showed J9 and was far from drawing dead. The turn brought the 6 to complete Chan's flush and the A completed the board, making Chan's flush the best hand and giving him reason to pump his fist as he doubled up to 180,000.
The table is an interesting one - featuring Chan, Bryan Micon and Shawn Sheikhan. After doubling up and cripping his opponent, Chan yelled "Get this man a drink!" The playful demand was in reference to Micon, who has been nursing his short stack and calling for a cocktail waitress for a while.
Suck & Re-Suck: Chris Grigorian Doubles Through David Singer
On a flop of A75, David Singer bet 6,000 and Chris Grgorian made the call. The turn was the A, and this time Singer led out with 15,000. Grigorian made the call and the river was the Q. Singer bet 30,000 and Grigorian quickly moved all in. Singer called just as quick and turned over A7 for a full house (aces full of sevens). Singer flopped top two pair and turned the full house. Grigorian showed AQ for a better full house (aces full of queens) on the river. Singer fell down to 42,000 in chips while "The Armenian Express" brought himself up over 100,000 this hand. Singer would bust later in the level.
Clements Tries to Defend, But Can't Connect
The player in seat 7 raised to 4,600 from the button and Scott Clements repopped to 10,200 from the small blind. Seat 7 made the call and the flop came down KJ6 and Clements blasted 20,000 into the pot. Seat 7 went nowhere, however, making the call. Both players checked the 2 on the turn and the river brought the 3. Both players checked again and Clements announced, "Ace high." Seat 7 turned over QJ for second pair and took a good sized pot. Clements was down to about 72,000.
THAY3R Gets Love From The Ladies
Thayer "THAY3R" Rasmussen called a short stack's all in bet and flipped over QQ. The all in player showed AJ and had one over-card. The board ran 98248 and Rasmussen knocked out another player while increasing his stack to around 110,000.
Don't Mess With Evelyn's Big Blind
The player in seat 8 raised to 3,300 from the button and Evelyn Ng repopped to 9,300 from the big blind. The button made the call and the flop came down K26 and Ng fired 14,000. Seat 8 nodded his head, signaling it was too much to call and folded his hand. Ng took the pot and increased her stack to a very healthy 176,000.
Micon Pushes Back, Then Gets Pushed Out
Shawn Sheikhan raised to 4,500 and Johnny Chan folded his hand from the small blind. Micon was next to act in the big blind and, after pump faking a fold, decided to push all in for 17,400 more. Sheikhan decided to muck his hand and Micon added some chips to his short stack. He was at 23,100 while Sheikhan was at 131,500. Micon would not last, however, as he would go bust later in the level.
Matusow Takes a Pot
Mike Matusow raised to 3,800 from under the gun. The player in seat 2 called from the button and the two players were heads up going to the flop. "It's just me and the other human card rack," Matusow said before the flop of J93 hit the felt. Matusow then led out with 6,400 and seat 2 quickly mucked. Matusow then showed his QQ and raked in the pot. He was around 70,000.

Micon Outspoken Despite Losing Pot
Bryan Micon: AQ3
Opponent: 10K10
Bryan Micon raised on third street and was called by his opponent, showing a ten. “You and I the whole day!” Micon continued, “At least we keep winning before playing each other.” Micon bet again on fourth street and was called. Then on fifth street, his opponent made a pair of tens and Micon folded to his bet. Micon exclaimed – more matter-of-factly than in any sort of Hellmuthian manner – “I had like the most concealed hand ever, and there wasn’t a single heart out!” As he said this he flipped over (8)(7). His opponent replied in kind by showing his (A)(K). Micon has gotten off to a very strong start and currently has 7,400.

Habib Doubles Up
Hasan Habib: 84Q
Opponent: A5K
A short-stacked Hasan Habib found himself all-in against on third street against an unknown opponent. Habib turned over (A)(3) for an ace-high flush draw against his opponent’s (K)(J) for a pair of kings. Habib spiked a diamond on 6th street and that would be enough to take down the pot. Habib now has 1,300.

Greenstein Starts Anew
Greenstein: 8759
Opponent: A525
Fresh off of his sixth place finish in the H.O.R.S.E. championship, Barry Greenstein took a seat in $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament, hoping to continue his recent success. We joined one of his hands in progress on fifth street, where Barry called a bet from his opponent despite his opponent showing A52. His opponent paired his five on sixth street, and Greenstein check-called. On seventh street, Greenstein check-called again. His opponent turned up (4)(3)(J) for a wheel, and Greenstein mucked his hand. Despite this temporary setback, Greenstein would end the hand with 5,300.

Alex Jacob Wins Pot, Busts Opponent
Alex Jacob: K108J
Opponent: 10242
Alex Jacob and a short-stacked opponent went to fourth street with a K and 10 showing respectively. On fourth street, Jacob bet and his opponent called, leaving himself only 525 behind. Jacob bet again on 6th street and the other player contemplated for a while, picked up his final few chips and said, “What am I going to do with these anyway?” He tossed them in for the call, but would regret it almost immediately. After 7th street was dealt, Jacob showed (A)(Q)(J) for the straight. The pot gives Jacob 5,200 early on day 1.
Small But Important Pot Gives Ferguson Some Breathing Room
Chris Ferguson: A538
Opponent: Q64A
Ferguson completed on third street and his opponent raised. Ferguson made the call and the two players saw fourth street. On fourth street Ferguson checked and his opponent bet. Ferguson made the call. On fifth street Ferguson again checked, and his opponent put in the last of his chips. Ferguson made the call and the two turned over:
Ferguson: (K)(K)A538
Opponent: (J)(10)Q64A
Ferguson’s opponent said, “Well, I started out okay,” as he flipped over his cards. His river card was the 7 and he was eliminated mid-way through level 3. This pot, though not particularly large, was important for Ferguson as it represented a sizeable portion of his stack. He now sits with 2,600 in chips.

Andy Bloch Gets Set-up
Andy Bloch: A5JK
Opponent: QJQ8
A player completed to 100 and Andy Bloch raised to 200. The player called and each player was dealt a fourth card. Bloch bet out and his opponent called. The hand switched gears when the opposing player was given a pair of open queens. As a result, he bet out on the final three streets, getting called all the way down by Bloch. Bloch’s showed his set when he flipped over his Q and that was good enough to win the pot. Bloch’s stack took a bit of a hit and now he has 3,000.
