Jul 13, '13 | CPPT - 2013 Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza III | CPPT Venetian $5,000 Main Event | 1 | + |
A First Look Around The RoomJul 13, '13 The Card Player Poker Tour Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza III Day 1a has kicked off and players are slowly taking their seats. The first player we’ve spotted was Sam Cohen. Cohen made name for herself last January when she made the Aussie Millions Main Event final table. Unfortunately she wasn’t able to close out as she finished in 8th place for A$120,000. The tournament was ultimately won by Mervin Chan for A$1,600,000. On Cohen’s table we’ve also spotted Card Player columnist Andrew Brokos. Brokos has a very short list of live tournament cashes, but also a very impressive one. In total he managed to cash in nine live tournaments, six of which were the World Series of Poker Main Event. Brokos’ had his best showing in the 2008 Main Event when he finished 35th for close to $200,000. Todd Terry, the man in the white t-shirt, has also decided to sit down in an attempt to get a late-summer victory. Terry cashed in five WSOP events this summer, his best being the $25,000 6-max for a little under $100,000. The board currently shows us that there are 51 players signed up for Day 1a. The board ran out 102K99 giving Shnayder the nut flush and Carroll was out. Baldwin Returns To The Bank Of Brokos Eric Baldwin doubled through Andrew Brokos at the end of the previous level and he just did it again. Brokos raised to 80,000 from the button and Eric Baldwin moved in for 780,000 from the small blind. Brokos made the call and the hands were shown. Brokos: A8 The flop came J64 and Baldwin jumped in front. The turn was the 10 and Baldwin nailed two pair to leave Brokos drawing dead. The river was the 9 and Baldwin doubled up to 1.4 million while Brokos was down to 780,000. Clements Has Aces Cracked Scott Clements raised to 95,000 preflop and Brian Jensen moved all in for 680,000. Clements snapped him off with pocket aces. Jensen held pocket tens and the flop fell K83. But the turn was the 10 and Jensen went ahead with a set. The river was the 9 and Jensen doubled up to about 1.3 million. Clements slipped to 2.1 million. Boom Picking up the action on the turn, the board read 763K and Fokke Beukers moved all in for about 2 million chips. Theo Jorgensen snap-called and turned over K6 for turned two pair. Beukers tabled AK for top pair on the turn and he was in trouble. The river was the 4 and Beukers was eliminated. Jorgensen soared to the chip lead after that massive pot, holding 8 million. Left In The Deck Last Level Of The Night The players were originally scheduled to play five complete levels today. However, Jack Effel has announced that this will be the last level of the night, meaning the field will exit one hour earlier than expected. Furthermore, if the players begin to bust at an accelerated rate, play may be stopped even earlier. The word around the Amazon Room is that the target number of players to start Day 7 on Friday is 81, which was about 15 eliminations away at the start of the level.
