Manuel Bevand opened the pot for 40,000, Hoyt Corkins moved all in for 260,000 and Bevand called. Bevand was ahead before the flop with AJ against Corkins’ pocket pair of nines. The board came A108J10, giving Bevand top pair on the flop and top two pair on the turn to win the pot and eliminate Hoyt Corkins in 9th place ($41,829). That Hand put Bevand up to about 1.4 million. Shorts Stacks Double Shaun Deeb was on the short stack with just 4 big blinds when he found a double up through Manuel Bevand. Deeb got it in before the flop with AA against Bevand’s KJ. Bevand missed and Deeb doubled up to about 280,000 that hand. Andy Frankenberger was the next short stack to double when he got it in before the flop with a pair of sixes against Alexander Venovski’s AK. Venovski missed and Frankenberger doubled up to just over 700,000 that hand, knocking Venvoksi down to the short stack with just 180,000. Max Heinzelmann four-bet from the big blind, and the original raiser folded. Deeb five-bet, and Heinzelmann shoved for about 220,000 total. Deeb snap called with pocket aces and was up against A-6 off suit. The flop brought a six and the river brought another one, crippling Deeb to just 20,000 and propelling the European to about 440,000. Deeb was eliminated shortly thereafter. Sorel Mizzi Takes out an Opponent Sorel Mizzi opened a pot from the hi-jack and then one opponent moved all in for 30,000. Mizzi made the call and they flipped over their cards: Mizzi: A K Board: A J 5 K 3 Mizzi took out his opponent and he increased his chip stack to 150,000. Lee Watkinson Eliminated Lee Watkinson was once up to 90,000, but then had his K-K lose to A-Q, and then he got the last of his chips into the middle after flopping a pair of aces, but lost to Q-Q when his opponent hit trips on the river. Todd Brunson Doubles Todd Brunson flopped a straight and flush draw in a three-way pot. He moved all in and was called by an opponent holding aces. Brunson hit his draw on the turn and doubled to 150,000. Noah Boeken Eliminated In a blind-versus-blind scenario, Noah Boeken got his stack in with A-9 against Q-2. Unfortunately for Boeken his opponent hit a pair of queens and sent him packing. Featured Poker Tweet — Matt Stout Galen Hall Eliminates a Player Galen Hall held A-Q and called an 11-big-blind shove from a short stack. His opponent held a dominated ace and Hall held to bring his chip stack to about 200,000. Jonathan Little Short Jonathan Little ran his A-K into K-9 on K-9-X-X-X board. Pat Pezzin Doubles Up Pat Pezzin got the last of his chips into the middle with the board reading A 10 9 J. Pope made the call with AJ and had Williams and his QJ dominated. The board came 10323Q, however, and Williams doubled up to about 20,000. Shaun Deeb Hits The Rail Shaun Deeb had just under 18,000 when he made his move with A-K only to run into an opponent’s pocket jacks. Deeb paired up on the flop, but his opponent made a set to see his tournament run end. Justin Smith Exits Courtesy of Andreas Hoivold On a flop of J54, Andreas Hoivold bet 2,050 and Justin Smith reraised to 5,250 behind him. Hoivold then put Smith all in and the two-time Bellagio Cup final tablist made the call. Hoivold showed Q8 for a flush draw and Smith showed J9 for top pair. The action was then on the small blind and he repopped it to 2,150. The first player called and Sowers moved in for 5,275. The small blind was the only caller and they turned over their hands: Sowers: KK Sowers was dominating and the board ran out J547Q and Sowers scored the double up to 13,500. Ladies Night Picking up the action after the board had run out K72109, there was 9,000 in the pot. A player had bet 8,000 and the action was on Shaun Deeb. He tanked for a few moments and eventually threw in the call. His opponent showed QQ, which was fine by Deeb as he tabled QQ. The two players chopped the pot and Deeb was at 26,000. Antonio Esfandiari Three-Bets A player in early position raised to 800 and got two callers. Antonio Esfandiari three-bet to 3,000 from the big blind and the initial bettor folded. The next player to act called and the last player folded. Esfandiari asked for a chip count on his opponent. Esfandiari got a count of about 14,000 and the flop came Q97. Esfandiari bet 4,600 and his opponent quickly mucked. Esfandiari was at about 30,000 after the hand. Jeff Madsen Loses Steam Jeff Madsen raised to 500 preflop and was called by seat 2 and the player in the big blind. The flop ran 10QJ and all players checked. On the 6 turn action checked to Madsen who bet 850. Seat 2 called but the big blind folded. The 3 fell on the river and Madsen slowed back down, checking to seat 2 who fired 3,000. Madsen wasted little time folding. His stack was still around 31,000 after the hand. Leonidas Bests Froehlich Picking up the action on the flop of J65, Toto Leonidas bet 1,250 and Eric Froehlich raised to 2,700. Leonidas made the call and the turn was the 2. Both players checked and the 6 came on the river. Leonidas bet 3,500 and Froehlich made the call. Leonidas then turned over the bad news with K10 for the second nut-flush. Froehlich mucked and was down to 23,800. Leonidas scooped the pot and was at 33,300 after the hand. Nice Fold At Tom McEvoy’s table a raising war preflop led to one player folding pocket kings face up. The table was a bit shocked until the opposing player showed pocket aces. Good read, sir. How Much to Shave Chau Giang’s Head? Marcel Luske Makes a Fold Over in the pavilion room, Marcel Luske saw a flop of AA4. He checked and his opponent bet 900. The 6 fell on the turn and action was checked to Obrestad. She bet 3,300. Ulliott folded and the other player tanked. He eventually folded and Obrestad was at 18,000 after the hand. She still has two rebuy chips. Chris Moneymaker Loses One Five players saw a flop of Q53. Both blinds checked. A player in early position bet 1,050. Ran Azor raised to 6,000. Chris Moneymaker called. The blinds and the original bettor folded. The J hit the turn and Azor shoved for just 800. Moneymaker called. Azor tabled the Q842 for top pair, a flush draw, and an open-ended straight draw. Deeb showed 87 for a total bluff, and his stack grew to around 62,000. Serock Out-kicks Flack Joe Serock already has three deep runs in the 2010 World Series of Poker and he’s hoping for another one. He was recently in a pot with Layne Flack, where on a flop of A63 Serock bet 1,000 and Flack and another player called. Serock slowed and checked to Flack on the 5 turn and Flack fired 3,200. Their hands: Parker: A8 The board ran 10810109 and Boeken was gone. Parker was in good shape, with 38,500 after the hand. Deeb Hits The Straight After one raise from Stefan Huber and another from Nikolay Evdakov, Shaun Deeb re-raised it yet again and both opponents called. On a flop of 234 action checked to Deeb, who bet, then Huber check-raised. Deeb called by Evdakov folded. On both the 5 turn and 10 river, Huber checked, Deeb bet and Huber called. Deeb showed AQ for the wheel, and Huber mucked. The pot pushed Deeb to around 76,000 in chips. Galfond Gets Broadwayed On a flop of 5KQ Justin Bonomo checked to Phil Galfond, then check-raised after Galfond bet. Bonomo bet again on the J turn and J river, and Galfond called both times. Bonomo showed A10 for a turned straight, and Galfond mucked. The win put Bonomo around 36,000 in chips, while Galfond fell to 28,000.
