Matthew Ashton called all in for 17,000 and then Seiver opened the action again on fourth street. Ellis called and on fifth street it was Ellis who bet. Seiver called and the action reversed once again on sixth street. Seiver bet first but Ellis raised to 48,000 Seiver called and then both live players checked on seventh street. Ellis showed the winning hand of (52) 57510 (9) and Seiver mucked. Ashton could only muster two pair and that was behind the trip fives of Ellis. Ashton was out in seventh place and Ellis was close to 500,000. Gary Benson Eliminated in Sixth Place ($24,003) Freddie Ellis completed and Gary Benson raised. Ellis called and on fourth street Ellis bet. Benson called all in for 4,000 and he was already behind the trip tens of Ellis when they revealed their first four cards. Benson wasn’t able to catch Ellis’ (107) 1010QK (5). Benson was out in sixth place and Ellis continued to build his stack. Frank Kassela Eliminated in Fifth Place ($31,978) Frank Kassela completed and Scott Seiver raised. Kassela called and then checked on fourth street. Seiver bet and Kassela called. The jacks held and Stout was eliminated from the tournament. His dinner order had the awkward timing of arriving right before this happened, but he stuck around to polish off the meal table side. Hafiz Khan Doubles Up At the same table where Stout fell a few hands later Hafiz Khan was able to stave off the same fate thanks to pocket aces in the hole. They held against the pocket queens of Jon Eaton and Khan lives to fight another day. Andrew Frankenberger Doubles Up Andrew Frankenberger just kept his tournament hopes alive with pocket jacks in the hole thanks to a third jack that fell on the flop. His stack is now up to 50,000 after the hand. Frank Kassela Confuses his Opponent Frank Kassela raised to 2,000 from the small blind preflop and the big blind made the call. The flop fell 8 6 4 and Kassela bet 5,000. The big blind made the call and they both checked the 2 on the turn. The river fell A and Kassela bet 6,500. He moved all in and then the big blind came over the top of that for all his chips, having both opponents covered. Kassela made the call and tabled KK while the small blind showed QQ and the big blind tabled AQ. The flop came down Q73 and the small blind took the lead. The turn was the 4, giving the big blind the nut-flush draw. Sure enough, the river was the 2 and Kassela joined the small blind on the rail. With his cash, Kassela locked up at least a share of the 2010 WSOP Player of the Year award. If Michael Mizrachi does not win the main event, Kassela will claim the award outright. South Gives Up The Double Picking up the action on the flop, the board read K43 and Cole South checked. Tristan Wade then fired 22,000 and South check-raised to 57,000. Wade then shoved all in for 307,000 and South made the call. Wade: AQ South flopped two pair but had to fade Wade’s nut-flush draw. The turn gave Wade more outs as the A fell and the river was the 8, making Wade his flush. Wade was up to 652,000 after the double up while South was down to 186,000. Scotty Chipping Up A player moved all in for 34,000 and the action folded around to Scotty Nguyen in the big blind. He made the call and turned over pocket aces, dominating his opponent’s A5. Shorr Drops One In a battle of the blinds, Shannon Shorr raised to 6,600 from the small blind. The big blind then repopped to 16,000 and Shorr made the call. Both players saw the flop come down 942 and they both checked. The turn was the 6 and Shorr led out with 13,100. The big blind called and the river was the 5. Both players checked and Shorr tabled A6. It was no good as the big blind tabled pocket queens to take down the pot. Shorr was down to 415,000. Kassela Chips Up Picking up the action after the flop came down 10107, Frank Kassela bet 7,500 and the button made the call. The turn was the 4 and Kassela checked. The button bet 10,000 and Kassela called. The river was the Q and both players checked. Kassela then tabled 74 for tens and sevens and he took down the pot. He was at 270,000. Antonius At A Quarter Mil Patrik Antonius moved all in from the small blind and the big blind decided to put himself at risk by making the call. Antonius: A8 Antonius was dominating and the flop came down A96, giving Antonius a stranglehold on the hand. The turn was the 3, a blank. The river was the 8, giving Antonius an unnecessary two pair and he scored the knockout. He was at 250,000. Rolf Slotboom Takes Big Hit There was a flurry of raises preflop which ended up with Rolf Slotboom calling the all-in bet of his opponent for 67,000. Slotboom showed QQ and was way behind his opponent’s KK. “There are lots of queens in that deck,” pleaded Slotboom as the dealer dealt out the A36 fop. “Queen, Queen, Queen, save the best for last,” Slotboom continued. The turn was the 9 and the river was the A and Slotboom dropped to just 54,000. Shulman Eliminated Barry Shulman committed the last of his chips on a flop of Q68 and found some bad news. Shulman showed A6 and was trailing his opponent’s KQ. Shulman would need to hit his five-outer to keep his main event hopes alive, but the 4 on the turn and the 5 on the river sent Shulman home just shy of the money. Matt Matros Takes One We got to the table as the flop was being dealt and there was already well over 100,000 in the middle. The flop came out AJ4 and a player in the blinds checked over to Matt Matros who bet out 55,000. That sent the player in the blinds deep into the tank before finally folding. Matros took the pot and cracked the 300,000 mark as his stack grew to 325,000. Full House For Bellande The board read 10936 when Jean-Robert Bellande and Andrew Brown got all of the money in the middle. Bellande was way ahead of Brown when he showed the 33 for a flopped set of threes and Brown was left with just unimproved KK. The river was the 9, which filled up Bellande and he doubled up to 255,000 in chips and Brown fell to 360,000. Kostritsyn Wins a Big Pot The player in the hijack seat checked over to Alexander Kostritsyn on the button with the flop reading Q910. Kostritsyn bet 15,000, the hijack seat raised to 31,400 and Kostritsyn made the call. The turn was the 9 and the hijack bet out 44,700, which was called by Kostritsyn. The river was the J and both players checked. Kostritsyn showed QJ and his opponent showed a complete bluff when he tabled the 7-6. Nguyen Scores a Double Up It was a battle of the blinds when the player in the small blind raised and Scotty Nguyen put in a three-bet from the big blind. Nguyen had put in nearly all of his chips and apparently, the small blind thought all of them were in as he made the call and tabled A-J. “I’m not all-in, baby,” said Scotty as the dealer put out a flop of 2-2-4. They got the rest of his chips in the middle and Nguyen showed pocket queens. The queen on the turn assured Nguyen’s double up and he is up to 140,000. Jeff Madsen won the 2006 WSOP Player of the Year award, but Harrahs felt that he wasn’t properly recognized for his achievement, winning two bracelets and scoring four top-three finishes overall. Ty Stewart took the mic and gave him his long overdue props, much to the delight of the crowd. The next player introduced was Frank Kassela, who was crowned the 2010 Player of the Year on Saturday when Michael Mizrachi was eliminated from the main event in fifth place. Kassela received $30,000 in tournament buy-ins for his accomplishment. After that, Nolan Dalla took the stage to introduce one this year’s Poker Hall of Fame inductees, Dan Harrington. Doyle Brunson then came to the stage to introduce another inductee, Erik Seidel. Both were given long introductions about their poker past and then formally inducted. After each gave their acceptance speech, they were welcomed by standing ovations from the audience here in the theater. The final two heads up players will now be introduced before play resumes. Tom Braband is your new chip leader with 353,000. Amit Makhija and Micah Raskin were the two new additions at the top. Players that are getting a little too low for comfort include Steve Gross, Thomas Marchese, McLean Karr, and Phil Collins. Raymond Dolan saw his stack plummet and settle at 25,000 after he doubled up Phil Collins late in the level. Big Hands: Jeff Madsen Eliminated Jeff Madsen raised to 2,900 preflop and his opponent moved all in with an overbet. Madsen made the call with pocket eights and his opponent held pocket fours. A four in the door then ushered Madsen to the rail. David Sands Scores a Nice Pot McLean Karr raised under the gun preflop and David Sands reraised from the button. Karr reraised another 12,600 and Sands made the call. The flop fell 743 and Karr bet 22,700. Sands reraised all in and put Karr on a decision for his tournament life. Karr decided to muck and his stack fell to 90,000. Sands grew his holdings to 215,000. Full House For Bellande The board read 10936 when Jean-Robert Bellande and Andrew Brown got all of the money in the middle. Bellande was way ahead of Brown when he showed the 33 for a flopped set of threes and Brown was left with just unimproved KK. The river was the 9, which filled up Bellande and he doubled up to 255,000 in chips and Brown fell to 360,000. Kostritsyn Wins a Big Pot The player in the hijack seat checked over to Alexander Kostritsyn on the button with the flop reading Q910. Kostritsyn bet 15,000, the hijack seat raised to 31,400 and Kostritsyn made the call. The turn was the 9 and the hijack bet out 44,700, which was called by Kostritsyn. The river was the J and both players checked. Kostritsyn showed QJ and his opponent showed a complete bluff when he tabled the 7-6. Nguyen Scores a Double Up It was a battle of the blinds when the player in the small blind raised and Scotty Nguyen put in a three-bet from the big blind. Nguyen had put in nearly all of his chips and apparently, the small blind thought all of them were in as he made the call and tabled A-J. “I’m not all-in, baby,” said Scotty as the dealer put out a flop of 2-2-4. They got the rest of his chips in the middle and Nguyen showed pocket queens. The queen on the turn assured Nguyen’s double up and he is up to 140,000. Jeff Madsen won the 2006 WSOP Player of the Year award, but Harrahs felt that he wasn’t properly recognized for his achievement, winning two bracelets and scoring four top-three finishes overall. Ty Stewart took the mic and gave him his long overdue props, much to the delight of the crowd. The next player introduced was Frank Kassela, who was crowned the 2010 Player of the Year on Saturday when Michael Mizrachi was eliminated from the main event in fifth place. Kassela received $30,000 in tournament buy-ins for his accomplishment. After that, Nolan Dalla took the stage to introduce one this year’s Poker Hall of Fame inductees, Dan Harrington. Doyle Brunson then came to the stage to introduce another inductee, Erik Seidel. Both were given long introductions about their poker past and then formally inducted. After each gave their acceptance speech, they were welcomed by standing ovations from the audience here in the theater. The final two heads up players will now be introduced before play resumes. The board ran out KK476 and Negreanu eliminated his opponent. Negreanu was at 295,000 after the hand. Antonio Esfandiari Eliminates a Player David Paredes was all in preflop for 70,500 and Antonio Esfandiari called with the KK. Paredes was behind with the AQ. The board ran out 8759J and the kings held. Esfandiari was at 170,000 after the hand. Frank Kassela Doubles Up Dario Minieri put Frank Kassela all in for 71,000 on a 9738 board. Kassela tabled the J10 and had the nuts. However, Minieri had outs with his set of nines. The board didn’t pair on the river with the 5. Kassela doubled to 220,000 while Minieri was down to 145,000 after the hand. Steve Sung Eliminated Antonio Esfandiari put Steve Sung all in on a K-9-5-10 board. Sung had 9-5 but was dominated by the K-5 of Esfandiari. The better two pair held and Esfandiari was up to 315,000. Kassela made the call and saw that he was crushed. Their hands: Kassela: A10 The flop ran K105, giving Kassela a flush draw, but he wouldn’t need it. The 10 hit on the turn, giving him trips to best Anthony’s aces. The J hit on the river and Anthony was eliminated just shy of the bubble. Kassela raked in the pot and had around 1.1 million. Juanda is the Bubble Boy In one hand John Juanda both bubbled payouts and lost the lead in the Player of the Year race to Frank Kassela. On that hand, an already criplled Juanda put himself all in for 40,000 when calling Brian Hodhod’s 52,000 raise along with Martins Adeniya. The flop came AK10 and Adeniya and Hodhod checked. They again checked the 7 turn, but when Adeniya checked the 3 river Hodhod bet 44,000. Adeniya folded and Juanda saw that he was beat. On a flop of J83 Trickett led out for 54,000 and Mosseri made the call. The 6 hit on the turn and Trickett slowed down, checking to Mosseri who bet 80,000. Trickett mucked and Mosseri increased his stack to an impressive 1,450,000. Trickett had around 740,000 following the hand. Kassela Loses Big Pot to Kenney Bryn Kenney raised to 38,000 and Frank Kassela repopped to 100,000. Kenney called and both players checked the flop of K95. The 10 came on the turn and both players checked again. On the 3 river Kassela check-called Kenney’s bet of 70,000. After getting as high as third on the leaderboard he eventually fell among the low stacks, courtesy of Frank Kassela. In that hand, Kassela raised to 25,000 and Greenstein reraised to 60,000. Kassela called and the flop ran Q105. Greenstein fired out 85,000 and Kassela moved all in for 498,000. Greenstein called and saw that he was in the lead. Their hands: Kassela: A8 Kassela needed a heart or he would be eliminated. The Q on the turn didn’t help him but the 6 river card gave him the flush, boosting his stack to 1,145,000 and crippling Greenstein. Shortly after, Greenstein found himself all in preflop against Alexander Gruibem. Their hands: Greenstein: AQ Greenstein held the lead but the flop hit Gruibem’s hand, running 863 and Greenstein found no help from the 8 turn and 5 river. Greenstein busted and Gruibem’s stack grew to around 365,000. The pot put Kelly way up around 2.4 million in chips, while the day’s starting chip leader Kenney was down to just 885,000. Buchanan showed 56, giving him an open-ended straight draw and Kassela showed Q3, giving him two pair. Kassela sprung back in his chair when he saw Buchanan’s hand and was even more shocked when the 2 hit the river to give Buchanan his straight.
