Isaac Baron – 140,000 Average Chip Count: 31,842 Notable Eliminations: Jason Mercier Big Hands: Jason Mercier Elimianted After a player in middle position raised and Justin Smith called from the button, Jason Mercier reraised to 4,050. The initial raiser folded and Justin Smith called. The flop came J65 and Mercier contemplated briefly before checking. Smith quickly checked behind and the 7 hit the turn. Mercier quickly fired out a 10,100 chip bet and Smith paused momentarily before going all-in. Mercier was pot committed after the turn bet and called all-in for his last couple thousand. Mercier announced he had a flush draw and turned over the AK410 and Smith exposed the nuts with the 10698. Their cards: Wahlbeck: QJK9 Khan: KK52 Unknown: AA79 The flop was dreadful for both Khan and Wahlbeck as it came A73, giving their opponent top set and the nut flush draw. The J made everything more interesting as both Khan and Wahlbeck added flush draws, with Khan’s being higher. If Wahlbeck could catch a club or a card for a straight he would still make a profit in the hand since Khan was so short stacked. Khan had a gut shot to boot with his flush draw. None of the miracles came for either Khan or Wahlbeck as the A fell, making quads for the unknown player. Khan was eliminated and Wahlbeck was crippled to just 2,500. Phil Galfond Eliminated Last year’s champion in the event was eliminated when he flopped middle set against an opponent’s top two pair. The turn was ugly for the online cash game specialist as it gave his opponent a full house, eliminating him. Left In The Deck: The players are currently on a 90 minute dinner break. Seat 1 tabled A9 for top pair and Grizzle was down to 24,000. No Love For Scotty Baby The player in seat 8 raised to 1,200 under the gun and the action folded around to Scotty Nguyen. He three-bet to 1,800 and seat 8 was the only caller. The flop came AQ3 and both players checked. The turn was the Q and both players checked again. The river brought the 2 and seat 8 was tired of pounding the table and fired 1,200. Nguyen waited for a bit but eventually mucked his hand. He was down to 43,000 after the hand. The Kid Can’t Turn It Action folded around to Daniel Negreanu on the button and he raised to 1,200 preflop. The big blind called and the flop came down 1096 and both players checked. The turn was the 2 and the big blind took a stab at the pot with 1,200. Negreanu stared at his opponent for a bit, then mucked his hand. He was down to 44,000 after the hand. Kenny Hsiung – 410,000 Average Chip Count: 132,142 Notable Eliminations: Ville Wahlbeck Big Hands: Zolotow Teaches The Professor The Art Of The Moustache Steve Zolotow was all in for his last 22,000 and Howard Lederer was the man putting Zolotow at risk. Zolotow: A8 Zolotow was dominated and needed a generous flop to stand a chance at doubling up. He got his wish as it came 765, giving Zolotow an open ended straight draw. The 4 on the turn made his straight and the 7 finished off the board. Zolotow doubled through Lederer and was at 50,000. Lederer was still doing fine at 230,000. No Money For Wahlbeck This Time Ville Wahlbeck was short stacked with 9,000 and shoved that in against Phil Tom. Wahlbeck had king-high but Tom held ace-high. The flop pair Tom’s ace and Wahlbeck never got any help and, in a rare occurrence, Wahlbeck will not cash in this $10,000 buy-in event. Barry Greenstein Doubles Up, But Busts Later Action folded around to Barry Greenstein in the small blind and he raised. Mark Teltscher was in the big blind and three-bet. Greenstein moved in and was called. Greenstein: Q5 Greenstein was behind until the flop of A52 gave Greenstein a pair and the lead. The turn brought the 10, giving Teltscher outs to a straight. But the 3 was a brick for Teltscher and Greenstein doubled up to 45,000. Later, Greenstein found his entire stack in the middle again and was holding pocket queens. Steve Kim looked him up holding pocket aces. The board ran out J96103 and Greenstein was eliminated. Jen Harman – 155,000 Average Chip Count: 57,216 Notable Eliminations: Brock Parker Big Hands: Ville Wahlbeck Rivers Flush David Benyamine raised under-the-gun and Ville Wahlbeck called from the big blind. Wahlbeck led out and Benyamine called on a flop of Q63. The turn was the 5 and Wahlbeck bet again, and was re-raised by Benyamine. Wahlbeck called and the river brought the J. Wahlbeck checked and Benyamine bet. Wahlbeck quickly check-raised and Benyamine went into the tank before finally making the call. Wahlbeck exposed the A3 for a runner-runner flush to take the pot after Benyamine exposed the Q and mucked. Wahlbeck is now at 60,000 in chips. Bruno Fitoussi Quadruples Up With the A4, Bruno Fitoussi was able to quadruple up to 26,000 on a board of AQ679. The 2007 $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. runner up is still very short stacked however. Left In The Deck: The players are currently on a 20 minute break. Player Tags: David Benyamine, Bruno Fitoussi, Ville Wahlbeck |
