Chip Movers and Shakers
Jonathan Little has had a strong first level to start the day. He holds 50,000 as the chip leader and he is joined on the sunny side of the chip average by Jared Hamby, Matt Affleck and Daniel Negreanu, among others. A few players have started the day on the wrong side of the tracks and although they aren’t in trouble of busting just yet, they will need to turn thins around soon. James Carroll is down to 9,000, Shane Schleger is down to 10,000, and Scott Seiver holds 14,000.
Big Hands:
Jonathan Little Moves to the Top
An opponent made it 300 to go and Jonathan Little made the call on the button with 10-9 in the hole. Both blinds made the call. The flop fell 10 9 5 and the small blind bet 700. Everyone else mucked and Little raised to 2,000.
The small blind reraised all in for 23,000 more and Little made the all-in call. The small blind flipped over A-10 and both the turn and river brick. Little doubled up to 50,000 on the hand to become the early chip leader.
November Nine Double Up
The WPT Legends of Poker has been a good tournament for November Nine members to get live experience before the main event. They usually perform pretty well here at the Bicycle Casino as well.
Kevin Schaffel finished in second place at last year’s Legends of Poker, collecting $471,670 for his efforts. Soi Nguyen was in action yesterday and he finished strong with 77,250.
Joseph Cheong is playing on day 1B and he scored an early double up. There was 11,600 in the pot and a board of 10 7 5 8 A on the table when the small blind checked before Cheong moved all in for 8,525 from the button. The small blind made the call after a moments deliberation and Cheong flipped over 6 4 . His opponent mucked and Cheong doubled up to 28,500.
Kathy Liebert Grabs an Early Pot
Three players check down a board of A 9 2 10 with 2,700 in the pot. Kathy Liebert then made the price of admission 1,000 from middle position and seat 3 made the call from the cutoff. The big blind mucked and the K fell on the river.
Liebert bet 5,000 and her opponent mucked. Liebert turned over A Q as she collected the pot.
Schedule for the Day
The plan for today is to play six 90-minute levels. There will be a 10-minute break at the end of each level and a 60-minute dinner break that begins at approximately 7:30. Play should end just before midnight tonight.
Late Registration
Table 1 in the far corner of the room has been collecting the late arrivals on day 1B. The late registration net has accumulated an interesting cast of characters that aren’t too bad at poker either. We will keep you posted on the action and the table talk from this table throughout the day.
