David Baker Wins Event no. 32 ($451,779)Jun 19, '12 Level: 27 Hold’em – Omaha 8 Razz – Stud – Stud 8 David Baker Wins Event no. 32 ($451,779) David Baker entered the final level of the tournament with a 2:1 chip lead over John Monnette, but Monnette evened things up after winning a big pot with a full house. That hand put them both dead even at 2.6 million each. Monnette then went on to take a nearly 2:1 chip lead over Baker during the Omaha 8 round before Baker answered back and regained control in the Razz portion of the match. It wash’t long after regaining the chip lead for another time that Baker opened up his lead after winning a big Stud pot with a straight that put him over 4.4 million. With Monnette under 1 million, he brought in the 2 for 20,000, Baker completed the bet to 80,000 with the 5 and Monnette called. Baker then bet 80,000 on fourth street and 160,000 on fifth street and Monnette called. Monnette checked his ace-high board on both sixth and seventh streets and then called one bet from Baker on each. Baker turned over two pair and raked the pot, leaving Monnette with just 1 big bet. On the next and final hand of the night, Monnette was all in on third street with jack-high against baker’s split pair of sevens. He started the level as one of the short stacks and cemented that role about halfway through the level after doubling up Steve Sung when Sung stood pat with a J – 7 and Baker drew one, pairing eights with 8 – 4 – 3 – 2. Baker was down to less than full big blind after that hand and found some relief in a quick quadruple up after drawing a 10 – 7 low against Richard Ashby’s J -10 in a four-way pot. Soon thereafter and David Baker would get it all in again against Steve Sung, Sung getting the best of it again. Steve Sung raised to 50,000 before the draw, David Baker moved all in for about 10,000 more and both Phil Hellmuth and Sung called the raise. Baker then took another 150,000 from Phil Hellmuth after drawing one card to a J – 7, just outkicking Hellmuth who claims to have drawn to a J – 8 with one card. This pot put Baker over 500,000.
