Hands:
Olivier Busquet Off to Good Start
Olivier Busquet raised to 500 and was called by three opponents. The flop fell 9 9 6 and it was checked to Busquet. He bet 1,200 and both opponents called. The K fell on the turn and it was once again checked to the preflop raiser. Busquet bet 3,200 and got one caller this time. An A on the river prompted an all-in bet from Busquet. His opponent folded and he was now up to about 55,000
Evelyn Ng Rebuilding
On a board of 9 7 2 Evelyn Ng bet 1,400 and got one caller. The 2 fell on the turn, and Ng bet 2,400 and her opponent folded. She was at about 10,000 after the hand.
Johnny Lodden Chipping Up
Johnny Lodden bet 450 with the 3 2 and got two callers. A third player elected to make it 2,050 and Lodden called. The player next to act shoved for just 6,000 more and it was folded to Lodden. He made the call and was up against pocket kings. The board ran out good for Lodden as it came Q 6 2 6 A, giving him a flush. He took the pot and was at 45,000 after the hand.
Jerry Yang Eliminated
2007 champion Jerry Yang opened up the action to 1,000 and was three-bet to just over 2,000. Yang called and the flop fell A-J-5. Yang checked and faced a continuation bet of 2,500. Yang check raised to 6,000, and his opponent made it 12,000. Yang shoved for about 22,000 and was snapped called by a set of jacks. Yang tabled top two pair and failed to improve on the turn and river. He was gone early in yet another main event.
Jani Sointula at Nearly 90,000
On a board of Q 6 4, Jani Sointula flopped top set of queens against the apparent over pair of his opponent. He got three streets of massive value and is now up to nearly three times the starting stack.

Evelyn Ng Loses Nearly Half Her Stack
On a board of 9 7 5 10 7 Evelyn Ng checked from the small blind and a player on the button bet 7,000. Ng called and folded when she was shown pocket fives for a full house. She was down to about 18,000 after the hand.
Sebastian Ruthenberg Also Drops Down to Under 20K to a Flopped Set of Fives
With a large pot of 15,000 for 50-100 blinds the board read Q 7 5 8 9, and Sebastian Ruthenberg checked. His opponent checked behind despite holding a set of fives. Ruthenberg mucked his king high and dropped to about 18,000.

Big Hands:
Lieu And Her Ladies Score The Knockout
A player moved all in from under the gun and the action folded around to Liz Lieu in the small blind. She made the call and they turned over their hands:
Lieu: QQ
Opponent: AQ
Lieu was dominating and the board ran out 85394 and Lieu knocked out her opponent. She was up to 72,000 after the hand.
Binger’s Kings Hold
A player put in a raise from early position preflop and Nick Binger repopped from the cutoff. The initial raiser put in another raise and Binger moved all in. The call was made and the players turned their cards:
Binger: KK
Opponent: AK
Binger was dominating and the board ran out 109210J and Binger doubled up to 33,200.
Mortensen Surrenders His Hearts
Picking up the action after the board had run out 1087QQ Carlos Mortensen led out with 3,500.
His opponent proceeded to raise it up to 15,200. Mortensen then went into a session in the tank and asked his opponent if he would show if Mortensen folded.
Mortensen did not get that luxury but he mucked his hand face up. Mortensen threw away A4 for the nut flush. He apparently put his opponent on a full house and was down to 25,000.
Williams Drops A Pot
David Williams raised to 1,050 from under the gun and he was called by three players. The flop came down AJ4 and Williams bet 3,000.
One player called and the A fell on the turn. Both players checked and the 2 came on the river.
The opponent bet 3,500 and Williams made the call. The opponent then showed AQ for trips and Williams mucked. He was at 110,000 after the hand.
Dwan On The Brink, Then Falls
Tom Dwan raised to 1,050 preflop and Lee Markholt made the call, as did the big blind. The flop came down 954 and Dwan fired 2,275.
Markholt was the only one to call and the turn was the K. Both players checked and the 7 fell on the river.
Dwan took a stab with 4,850 and Markholt made a hesitant call. It turned out to be a good one, however, as Dwan tabled J8 for a whole lot of nothing. Markholt tabled 109 for a pair of nines and took the pot. Dwan was down to just 6,000.
Then, on one of the last hands of the night, Dwan found his demise.
A player raised to 1,100 and Tom Dwan made the call from the big blind. The flop came down J108.
Dwan moved all in for 2,000 and was called. Here were the hands:
Dwan: J10
Opponent: QJ
Dwan flopped top two but his opponent had a gutshot straight draw. The turn was the 6, doing no damage. But the river was the 9, making the other player his straight and Dwan was sent to the rail.
The Art Of Doubli-Ng
Picking up the action after the flop came down 432, Evelyn Ng bet 6,600 and her opponent moved all in. She made the call, putting herself at risk:
Ng: 88
Opponent: AQ
Ng was good with her overpair and the board finished off 3 and K. Ng took the pot and doubled up to 53,000.

Notable Eliminations:

John Hennigan
Daniel Negreanu
Vanessa Rousso
Big Hands:
Ng Can’t Call
The player in seat 2 raised to 4,200 preflop and the player in seat 4 made the call. The action then folded to Evelyn Ng in the small blind and she repopped to 16,000. Seat 2 called while seat 4 got out of the way.
The flop came down K102 and Ng led with 12,200. Seat 2 made the call and the turn was the A.
Ng checked this time and seat 2 bet 16,000. That induced a fold from Ng and she was down to 88,000 after dropping that pot.
Hennigan Sees A Flop
The player under the gun raised to 4,500 and the action folded around to John Hennigan in the big blind. He decided to make the call and both players saw a flop of J52.
Hennigan checked and his opponent fired 7,000. Hennigan uncapped his cards and mucked his hand and he was at 90,000.
Joe Cada Eliminated
Four players limped preflop only to see Joe Cada move all in for 67,800. The button was the only player who decided to look him up and they turned their hands:
Cada: AQ
Button: 1010
Cada was racing for his chance to repeat and the flop looked promising when it fell K87, giving him a spade draw. The turn was the 7, the right color but wrong shape.
The river was the 6, bricking out for Cada and he made his way to the rail.
Corkins Bets Out The Competition
Four players, including Hoyt Corkins, limped in preflop and saw the flop come 864.
The action was checked around to Corkins and he fired 4,600. Everyone mucked and Corkins took down a small pot. His stack was anything but small, however, as he was up to 287,000.
Mizrachi Confused By Play
Michael Mizrachi opened for 5,100 from under the gun. The next player in seat 4 flatted and seat 5 did the same. Action then folded around to the big blind who moved all in for 6,400 more.
The action was back on Mizrachi and he repopped for another 20,000. Seat 4 then put in another raise to 65,000. Seat 5 mucked and Mizrachi took a tank session as the ESPN cameras surrounded the table.
Mizrachi eventually decided to muck and looked confused when his opponent tabled JJ.
Mizrachi apparently did not understand why his opponent raised so much with just jacks. The big blind tabled AQ and never improved as he was eliminated.
Mizrachi was down to 90,000.
Steve Sung Eliminated
On a flop of AJ710 Steve Sung bet 8,500 into a player on the button. Sung had just about 20,000 behind. His opponent bet enough to put him all in and Sung went into the tank. He eventually made the call and his opponent said it was a good call. Sung tabled the K10 and was ahead of the 97 of his opponent. However, the 8 on the river gave Sung’s opponent a straight flush. Sung was gone.
Billy Kopp Coolered
Billy Kopp three-bet a late position raise from the big blind. He was four-bet and Kopp smooth called. The flop came 884 and Kopp checked. His opponent checked behind. The turn brought the A and Kopp checked. His opponent bet big and Kopp moved all in. His opponent insta-called with the 88 and Kopp exposed the AA. Kopp was eliminated when the K fell on the river.
Patrik Antonius Loses a Pot
On a board reading Q9783 Patrik Antonius was faced with a 17,400 chip bet from an opponent. Antonius went into the tank before finally making the call. His opponent tabled the A7 for the nuts and Antonius dropped to 160,000 after the hand.
Bernard Lee Loses a Pot
On a board reading K973 Bernard Lee called a 27,000 chip bet from an opponent. The turn brought the A and Lee’s opponent checked. Lee checked behind and his opponent tabled the 106 for a flush. Lee mucked the AK and was down to 174,000 after the hand.
John Hennigan Eliminated
John Hennigan, Robert Mizrachi, and a third player on the button saw a stereotypical action flop of KQ10. Hennigan checked, Mizrachi bet 7,400, and was flat called by the player on the button.
Hennigan then woke up with a check-raise and made it 35,000 more. Mizrachi made all sorts of faces before finally giving up his hand and the player on the button opted to just call.
The turn was the 6 and Hennigan moved all-in for his last 53,000 and the player on the button beat him into the pot.
Hennigan showed KQ, giving him top two pair, and the player on the button flipped up the A6, giving him the nuts.
The river was the 4s and Hennigan was eliminated from the tournament.
Galfond’s River Aggression Earns Him The Pot
On a board of 8J2J, Phil Galfond checked and his opponent bet 6,500. Galfond made a raise to 18,500 and was pretty quickly called by his opponent.
The river brought the K and Galfond led out for 53,000. His opponent tanked for a solid five minutes. “Will you show if I fold?” asked his opponent. Galfond failed to respond and that brought a fold from his opponent. Galfond is up to 280,000.

Big Hands:
Evelyn Ng Eliminated
Action Folded around to Evelyn Ng in the small blind who made it 21,000 and Mark Gallagher called from the big blind. The two saw a flop 985 and Ng moved her last 89,000 into the middle. Gallagher made the call and it was time to go to showdown.
Ng showed AJ and Gallagher had outfopped her with the K9. The 10 on the turn was no help for Ng and the river was the 4, sealing her fate and sending her home earlier than she had wanted.
Theo Tran Finds Aces to Double
Theo Tran and Alan Keating each got over 300,000 chips into the middle preflop and Tran was at risk of elimination. Tran showed AA and was way ahead of the KK that Keating held.
The board ran out clean for Tran as it came J23108 and Tran doubled up to 650,000 while Keating dropped to 170,000.
Brandon Cantu Eliminated
Brandon Cantu was down to his last 60,000 after a showdown with his 10-8 against a shorter stacks pocket deuces crippled him. He moved his last 60,000 into the middle before the flop and Javier Martinez called from the big blind.
Cantu tabled 79 and Martinez showed AK. The flop was J76, giving Cantu the best hand, but Martinez a world of outs. The 4 on the turn was a brick, but the 10 hit the river and Martinez made the nuts and sent Cantu to the rail.
Filippo Takes Some Off Galfond
Phil Galfond, Eric Capra, and Filippo Candio all saw a flop and got to the turn with no betting. The board read Q10K8 and Galfond bet 57,000, which was twice the size of the pot. Candio made the call.
The 2 fell on the river and Galfond bet 126,000 and Candio made the call, tabling 88. Galfond mucked and Candio moved up to 860,000 while Galfond has 1,740,000.
Jason Somerville Eliminated
Jason Somerville got all of his remaining 300,000 chips in the middle on a flop of J54. Mads Wissing made the call and it was time for a showdown.
Somerville showed K6 and was on the flush draw, while Wissing held KJ, good for top pair. The turn was the 5 and the river was the 2, meaning Somerville was eliminated.
Scott Clements Drops a Pot
We caught up with the active on the river with the board reading K8723. Scott Clements was involved in a blind vs. blind scenario. His opponent bet 94,000 on the end and Scott Clements went into the tank. He eventually made the call. Clements’ opponent tabled the 32 for two pair and Clements mucked. He dropped to 660,000 after the hand.
Tony Dunst Eliminates a Player
Tony Dunst raised in late position with the QQ and a player in the big blind moved all in for 124,000 total. Dunst made the call and his opponent exposed the A4. The flop came 776 and Dunst was in good shape. However, the A on the turn put Dunst in bad shape. The Q on the river gave Dunst a full house and the pot. He was at around 1,600,000 after the hand.
Johnny Chan Nearing 2 Million
On a flop of J85 Johnny Chan bet 90,000 and a player directly to his left called. The turn brought the 9 and Chan checked. His opponent bet 80,000 and Chan called. The river brought the 2 and action went check-check. Chan tabled the 55 for a set and his opponent mucked. Chan was at about 1,900,000 after the hand.
Tony Dunst Wins a Pot
Matt Affleck bet 18,000 from the cutoff. Tony Dunst called from the button and so did another player from the blinds. The flop came J82 and Affleck led out for 30,000. Dunst made the call and the other player folded. The turn brought the A and Affleck checked. Dunst bet 75,000 and Affleck thought about it briefly before folding. Dunst and Affleck are two of the biggest stacks in the room.
Billirakis Knocks Out Three
Bernard Lee moved all-in for 64,000 and was called by Steve Billirakis. Steven Harstein then re-shoved all-in for 131,000 and Feming Chan was in the small blind and decided to move all-in for 350,000.
Action was back to Billirakis and he opted to call, putting all three other players at risk.
Lee: A4
Billirakis: JJ
Chan: AK
Harstein: 1010
The flop came AAJ, giving Billirakis a full house, but Chan and Lee had outs to improve. The turn was the 7 and the river was the 8 to knock out three players and put Billirakis at 955,000.

Mizrachi was down to 90,000.
Steve Sung Eliminated
On a flop of AJ710 Steve Sung bet 8,500 into a player on the button. Sung had just about 20,000 behind. His opponent bet enough to put him all in and Sung went into the tank. Sung was gone.

The turn was the 8, giving the button a straight draw, but also eliminating a seven as one of his outs as it would make Nguyen a straight.
The river paired the board with the 8 and Nguyen scored the knockout. He took the pot and was at 60,000 in chips.
Miami John Scores A Pot
Picking up the action on the turn, the board showed A3910. The small blind was first to act, but did nothing for a while. This gave time for the ESPN cameras to swarm the table and the dealer finally informed the small blind the action was on him. He checked and John Cernuto bet 6,000 into the pot. The small blind mucked and Cernuto took the pot, his stack at 33,000 after the win.
Liz Lieu Trips Up Opponent In Battle Of The Blinds
Picking up the action after the river, the board read K46A4 and the small blind checked to Liz Lieu. She was in the big blind and she bet out 5,000 into the pot. The small blind called and Lieu tabled 54 for trip fours.
The small blind mucked and Lieu took in the pot. She was at 40,000 after the hand.
Good Bet From Mercier Takes It Down
With 1,500 in the pot preflop, the flop came down 923 and Isabelle Mercier fired 800. The button made the call and the turn brought the K. Mercier led out again, this time with 1,250. “It’s a good bet,” the button said as he released his hand. Mercier took the pot and she was at 53,000.
Evelyn Ng Busts Out
Evelyn Ng was short stacked and moved all in with A5. She was called by one opponent who tabled pocket jacks. The flop came Q83, giving Ng very little help. The turn was the 8 and Ng could only double up by hitting an ace on the river.
The river brought the 9 and Ng was sent to the rail, ending her main event early in day 1c.
Filippi Gets No Action For His Aces
After a flop of J83, the player in the big blind checked to Amnon Filippi, who fired 800 into the pot. The big blind mucked and the pot was pushed toward Filippi.
“Ah, one time,” Filippi said in a frustrated tone. He then tabled AA. Despite getting no action, Filippi was doing well with 44,000 in chips.
Riding The Griffin
Picking up the action on the river, the board read 85310J. There was 6,000 in the pot and Gavin Griffin checked to the player on the button. He bet 5,000 and Griffin took a few moments to think about what to do.
When he finally announced a call, the button said, “I have a five.” Griffin then tabled 99 for a better hand and raked in the pot. He was at 57,000 after taking the pot.
Bill Chen Muscled Out
Picking up the action on the turn, the board read J7K6. The small blind bet 3,000 into a pot of 6,000. Bill Chen made the call from late position and the river was the 3. The small blind led out again, this time with 9,000. Chen mucked his hand and he was at 31,000.
Double Up With A Bullet
The player on the button raised to 1,200 preflop and the small blind folded. Maya Gellar was next to act in the big blind and she moved in for her final 16,000. The button made the call and tabled KK. Normally that’s a bad hand to go up against, but not when you are holding AA as Gellar was.
The board ran out Q6378 and Gellar’s pair of bullets held up. She doubled up to 35,000 in chips.
Hachem Cracks The Cowboys
A player raised to 650 preflop and Joe Hachem made the call. The flop came down 974 and the player fired 950. Hachem called again and the turn was the 3. Hachem called another bet by his opponent, this one 2,200. The river was the 4 and action was checked to Hachem. He bet 6,200 and his opponent called.
Hachem then tabled 54 for trip fours and his opponent showed KK for the losing hand. Hachem took the pot and he was at 38,000.
Fish Hooks Hold for McEvoy
Tom McEvoy raised preflop after a limper from the cutoff and was called by the button, the small blind and the limper.
The flop was AA3 and all four players checked. The turn was the 7 and it was checked to the player on the button who bet 750 and was called by McEvoy.
The river was the 2 and both players checked. McEvoy showed JJ and the player on the button mucked.

Clonie Gowen was one from the cut-off position and facing a raise to 800. She reraised things to 2300, both blinds folded, and the initial raiser called. The flop came 775, the original bettor checked and Gowen bet 2600. She was called, and the 10 came on the turn. Another check-call followed with Gowen sliding out 4500 in chips. The Q fell on the river, and with play checked to her again Gowen bet 5700. That was enough to take the pot down uncontested.
Lisandro crippled
With the board AJ76, Jeffrey Lisandro checked and his opponent directly to his left bet 1,000. It was a small bet compared to the size of the pot, and Lisandro raised to 4,000. His opponent called, and when the 8 came on the turn he bet 5,000. His opponent asked to see how many chips Lisandro had left. He got a look and then raised to 11,000. Lisandro leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. After a minute he called and his opponent showed 77 for a set and the pot. After the hand Lisandro had just 2,500 chips.
Singer on fire, over 100k
With the board K9648, David Singer bet out 9,000 and was called. He flipped over A3 and his opponent shook his head and turned over 66 for a set. Singer collected the sizable pot and after the hand had over 100,000 chips.
Evelyn Ng Takes Wing

Her opponent made the call and turned over pocket sixes, making Ng a large favorite. As the cameras rushed over to capture the moment, the dealer put out a board that offered no improvement to the sixes. Ng took the pot, bringing her chip stack to over 50,000.

Eliminations: Gavin Griffin, Dmitri Nobles, Vivek Rajkumar, Scott Seiver
Big Hands:
Griffin Gone
A player raised to 1,200 from late position and Gavin Griffin pushed his final 3,550 into the pot. The player called and showed KK, having Griffin in a world of hurt as he showed 66. Any possible flush Griffin could hit would not save him as his opponent had those draws covered. Griffin needed to hit some kind of a straight or a one of the two remaining sixes. The board ran out Q10394 and Griffin's main event was over.
Brad Booth Picks Up Aces
Three players limped to Booth who made it 1,500 to go. One limper folded and the second called. Marcel Luske was the third limper and called as well. The flop came 886 and everyone checked. When the 3 came on the turn, action was checked to Booth who fired 1,700. He was called by seat 2 and Luske got out of the way. Seat 2 checked in the dark and the 5 came on the river. Booth bet 2,500 and was called. He showed AA and his opponent mucked. Booth took a pot worth 7,500 and increased his stack to about 72,000.
Gowen Needs No Showdown
On a board of 10103, Alex Jacob checked, Clonie Gowen checked and the player in seat 3 fired 750. Jacob folded and Gowen made the call. The turn was the Q and Gowen led out with a bet of 2,500. Seat 3 made the call and the 5 fell on the river. Gowen bet 4,500 and seat 3 shook his head, mucking his hand as he lost a third of his stack in the hand. Gowen took the pot without a showdown and was nearing 70,000 in chips.
Luske Runs Into Kings
On a flop of Q63, seat 2 checked to Marcel Luske, who bet 1,000. Seat 2 made the call and the 6 came on the turn. Seat 2 checked to Luske again and "The Flying Dutchman" fired 2,000. Seat 2 made the call and both players checked the 8 on the river. Seat 2 rolled over KK and Luske quickly mucked.
Madsen With a Gutshot
In a three-way limped pot, the flop came down AQ3. Madsen bet 1,000 from the button and only one player made the call. The turn was the 4 and Madsen's opponent checked. Madsen then bet 2,500, which his opponent called. The K fell on the river and Madsen fired 5,600 into the pot. His opponent called again and Madsen showed J10 for a broadway straight on the river. Madsen was up to about 85,000.
Singer Bluffed For All to See
On a board of QQ4J, the player in seat 3 bet 800 and David Singer made the call. The 10 came on the river and seat 3 bet 1,600. Singer thought about a call, but mucked his hand as camera crews looked on. Seat 3 showed A2 for a whole lot of nothing and said that he only bluffed Singer because the cameras were around.
Full House v.s. Flush, Ng Doubles
With 9938 on the board Evelyn Ng bet 2,500 and was check-raised to 7,500. Ng elected to just call and the J came on the river. After her opponent bet 6,000, Ng moved all in for 9,125 total and was called by her opponent, who held the AK for the rivered nut flush. However, Ng held JJ for a rivered full house to take down the large pot, boosting her stack to 50,000.
Dmitri Nobles Busts
Nobles was all in on a board showing Q105A2. Nobles held AK, but it was second best to his opponent's 1010. Nobles' opponent apologized for knocking him out, but it was little consolation to Nobles as he made his way toward the exit.

Big Hands:
"The Goofball Beat Me, Honey!"
Phil Hellmuth raised to 4,000 under the gun and the player in seat 5 made the call. The flop came Q55 and Hellmuth checked, letting seat 5 bet 7,000. Hellmuth called and again checked when the 5 hit on the turn. Seat 5 bet 10,000 and Hellmuth removed his shades and studied the board and his opponent. After asking his opponent how much he had left, Hellmuth just called. The 10 fell on the river and seat 5 pushed all in for about 40,000. "Okay buddy, you win this one," Hellmuth said as he mucked his hand. "My turn next time, okay?"
But it wasn't okay with the layer in seat 5. Two hands later Hellmuth bet 7,500 on a flop of K53 and only seat 5 made the call. The A hit on the turn and Hellmuth led out for 13,000. Seat 5 announced he was all in and Hellmuth was stunned. He mucked and jumped from his seat to talk to his wife.
"The goofball beat me, honey!" he said to her. "He might be the worst player here by far."
But Hellmuth's confidence was still not shaken as he said, "I want to tell you something. He's going to be drawing dead against me in the next 10 minutes."
Chan Doubles, Demands Micon Gets His Drink
Johnny Chan raised to 4,600 from late position and was called by the big blind. The flop was J82 and the big blind led out for 11,000. Chan reached to his stack and re-raised, making it 26,000 more to go. The big blind wasted little time pushing all in, having Chan covered by around 12,000. Chan made the call and was all in for his tournament life. The big blind flipped up JJ for top set and was in the lead. But Chan showed J9 and was far from drawing dead. The turn brought the 6 to complete Chan's flush and the A completed the board, making Chan's flush the best hand and giving him reason to pump his fist as he doubled up to 180,000.
The table is an interesting one - featuring Chan, Bryan Micon and Shawn Sheikhan. After doubling up and cripping his opponent, Chan yelled "Get this man a drink!" The playful demand was in reference to Micon, who has been nursing his short stack and calling for a cocktail waitress for a while.
Suck & Re-Suck: Chris Grigorian Doubles Through David Singer
On a flop of A75, David Singer bet 6,000 and Chris Grgorian made the call. The turn was the A, and this time Singer led out with 15,000. Grigorian made the call and the river was the Q. Singer bet 30,000 and Grigorian quickly moved all in. Singer called just as quick and turned over A7 for a full house (aces full of sevens). Singer flopped top two pair and turned the full house. Grigorian showed AQ for a better full house (aces full of queens) on the river. Singer fell down to 42,000 in chips while "The Armenian Express" brought himself up over 100,000 this hand. Singer would bust later in the level.
Clements Tries to Defend, But Can't Connect
The player in seat 7 raised to 4,600 from the button and Scott Clements repopped to 10,200 from the small blind. Seat 7 made the call and the flop came down KJ6 and Clements blasted 20,000 into the pot. Seat 7 went nowhere, however, making the call. Both players checked the 2 on the turn and the river brought the 3. Both players checked again and Clements announced, "Ace high." Seat 7 turned over QJ for second pair and took a good sized pot. Clements was down to about 72,000.
THAY3R Gets Love From The Ladies
Thayer "THAY3R" Rasmussen called a short stack's all in bet and flipped over QQ. The all in player showed AJ and had one over-card. The board ran 98248 and Rasmussen knocked out another player while increasing his stack to around 110,000.
Don't Mess With Evelyn's Big Blind
The player in seat 8 raised to 3,300 from the button and Evelyn Ng repopped to 9,300 from the big blind. The button made the call and the flop came down K26 and Ng fired 14,000. Seat 8 nodded his head, signaling it was too much to call and folded his hand. Ng took the pot and increased her stack to a very healthy 176,000.
Micon Pushes Back, Then Gets Pushed Out
Shawn Sheikhan raised to 4,500 and Johnny Chan folded his hand from the small blind. Micon was next to act in the big blind and, after pump faking a fold, decided to push all in for 17,400 more. Sheikhan decided to muck his hand and Micon added some chips to his short stack. He was at 23,100 while Sheikhan was at 131,500. Micon would not last, however, as he would go bust later in the level.
Matusow Takes a Pot
Mike Matusow raised to 3,800 from under the gun. The player in seat 2 called from the button and the two players were heads up going to the flop. "It's just me and the other human card rack," Matusow said before the flop of J93 hit the felt. Matusow then led out with 6,400 and seat 2 quickly mucked. Matusow then showed his QQ and raked in the pot. He was around 70,000.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Don’t Mess with the Force
Play was folded around the table to the small blind, where Leif Force raised to 2300. The player in the big blind sensed a steal, so he reraised to 7000. Force then decided to prove he was serious, and made a second raise, this to 17,300. It was going to cost the big blind another 10,300 to call, with a stack of about 30,000. He elected to fold, but accidently flashed the 7 in the process. “I can beat that,” Force told him, mucking his hand.
Lee uses straight flush to increase stack
Late in the level Bernard Lee raised from under the gun with pocket tens and the big blind reraised all in for 20,000 more. Lee called and was up against A-K. The board came K-10-4-9-7 and Lee took the pot. Later he got involved in a pot with J7. The flop came 8-8-7 with the 8 and Lee called a 1,000 bet. He called another bet when the T came on the turn, and then the 9 came on the river, giving him a straight flush. Lee made a 2,100 bet and got a call and the pot. At the break Lee was up to 70,000 chips.
Ng Adds to Chip Count
Evelyn Ng was in the small blind and called a raise from a player in late position. The flop came 1055, and after Ng checked, she called a 5000 bet. Both players checked when the 2 fell on the river, then Ng led out for another 5000 when the 2 double-paired the board on the river. Her opponent called, but trailed with his 66, and Ng was holding 77.
Men the Master chops pocket kings
Preflop, Men Nguyen made a reraise of 12,000 and was called. Then on a J76 flop he check-raised all in for about 40,000. He called an his opponent flipped over two kings. "I'm freerolling. Give me two diamonds," Nguyen announced before flipping over a pair of kings with the K. But the turn was a heart, chopping the roughly 120,000-chip pot.
Childs Takes a Hit
Nenad Medic raised to 1800 from the cut-off and Lee Childs called from the big blind. The flop came Q97 and after Childs checked Medic checked behind him. The 5 came on the turn and Childs stabbed at the pot with a 2500 bet. Medic made the call. The 10 was the river card and Childs checked. Medic then moved out 5000, and Childs reluctantly made the call. Medic showed Q8 for top pair, and Childs mucked. He lost almost half his stack in the hand, now with 11,800 in front of him. Nedic has been joined at the table by fellow Canadian Isabelle Mercier.
Matusow Takes Small Pot
Mike Matusow was in the big blind, after checked after the player in the cut-off limped for 600. The flop came 742and both players checked. The 3 came on the turn and Matusow bet 1500, which drew a call. The 6 came on the river and Matusow bet 2400. His opponent folded and Matusow improved to about 55,000 in chips.

Amnon Filippi Eliminated
Ryan Hughes raised to 1,400 under the gun and three players in middle position called. Then Charles Large, on the button, moved in for 12,500. Amnon Filippi, who had been holding his chips in his hand since the start of his hand, moved in for about 4,200. Hughes called and the three other players folded. The three players showed their hands:
Hughes: 99
Filippi: AK
Large: AK
Interestingly, not only were Filippi and Large sharing outs, but one of the players who folded claimed to have had pocket nines. The board was even worse news for Filippi and Large: the 876 flop giving Hughes an open-ended straight draw in addition to his pair. The turn was the 4, giving Large a flush draw, but the 8 on the river ended the World Series hopes of both Large and Filippi. Hughes is now up to 73,000.
Duane Thompson Doubles Through Evelyn Ng
Duane Thompson was all-in on the button for 11,000 against Evelyn Ng in the small blind. Thompson showed A2 and was visibly pleased when Ng showed KQ. Thompson was audibly pleased too, saying, “I can’t believe I’m ahead.” The raggy board – 75325 – kept him ahead, and he doubled up to 24,000. Despite the hit, Ng still has 75,000.
D’Agostino Takes a Hit
John D’Agostino just lost a 60k pot when his A-K could not improve against his opponent’s pocket queens. D’Agostino, sitting directly across from Phil Gordon, is down to 55,000.
Yang's run comes to an end
The defending champion has been eliminated. Seated at the second featured table, Jerry Yang was shortstacked and in need of luck. He first ran A-2 into A-Q, but survived when the board brought two pair and only their aces played. Then he moved in with A-J and was called by A-9, but a nine came on the flop and Yang was eliminated. On his way out, he wished everyone at his table good luck and then received a nice applause from everyone in the Amazon Room.
Goldstein Can't Pull the Trigger
Ken Goldstein, the SpadeClub poker room manager, was on the button and called a raise to 1500 from a player in middle position. The flop came K53 and both players checked. The 5 paired the board on the turn, and again both players checked. The J on the river brought the flush into play, and another checks followed. "No pair," declared the other player. Goldstein couldn't show a winner at that point. When the other player showed 108, Goldstein mucked his hand. Goldstein had about 12,000 in chips after the hand.
Hansen off to Nice Start
Gus Hansen was in middle position and raised to 1625, which resulted in play being folded around to the big blind, who made the call. The flop came J54, and both players checked. The 10 fell on the turn, and the big blind came out with a 4000 bet. Hansen seemed uncertain whether to simply call, or push the player all-in for his remaining 21,000. He finally made the call, and the 2 on the river made a four-flush on board. It was enough of a scare card that both players checked. The big blind showed KJ for top pair, while Hansen held 1010 for a set spiked on the turn, and he collected the pot. Hansen has about 120,000 in chips.

Sheikhan Knocks One Out, Breaks 500,000
On a board of AQ42, Shawn Sheikhan got it all in against the player in seat 3. Sheikhan had him covered and both players turned over their cards.
Sheikhan: AQ
Seat 3: AJ
Sheikhan led with the best hand on the turn, top two pair, and his opponent was drawing to a flush. The river was the 6, and no spade meant that Sheikhan had eliminated another player at his table. Sheikhan screamed out in excitement on the river, "Yes! That's how mother-f#@%ers do it! I'm the real mother-f#@%er!" The player in seat 2 asked Sheikhan, "So I take it that f I call you a mother-f#@%er later, you won't mind?" Sheikhan didn't seem to mind because after this hand, he had finally broken the 500,000 chip mark and claimed himself a spot on the leader board.
Nguyen Pushes Giang Out, Much to the Chagrin of Giang
On a board of AQJ2, Men "The Master" Nguyen fired 15,000 into a pot totaling almost 40,000. The action was on Giang who took a session in the think tank. After much deliberation, Giang angrily mucked his cards and Nguyen took the pot, improving his stack to 140,000. Giang was not pleased, seeing his stack shrink to 45,000. On the next hand, Giang angrily shuffled his chips, slamming them on the felt every other shuffle, the thought of losing that hand still on his mind.
Smith Taking Command
Jeremiah Smith had already reraised when the player in seat 2 made it 100,000 to go. The action came back to Smith, who reraised all in. Seat 2 shook his head and, after much time thinking and cameras swarming the table, he gave up his hand to the chip leader. Smith was not done showing his table who was boss.
A couple of hands later, Smith reraised to 250,000 after the player in seat 8 opened for a raise. Seat 8 made the call and showed down AK. Smith then turned over the bad news, AA. The board ran out Q5477 and Smith knocked another player out. He was at 725,000.
Turner Turns On The Jets
At a tough table featuring Ryan Daut, Jon "PearlJammer" Turner, and the current chip leader of the main event Jeremiah Smith - the player in seat 4 raised on the first hand after dinner break and Turner reraised to 26,000 total. Action folded back to the initial raiser who elected to call. The flop came AK8 and seat 4 checked to Turner, who led out with a bet of 29,000. Seat 4 called and the 10 came on the turn. Seat 4 checked again and Turner bet 58,000. Seat 4 counted out his chips and tanked for a few minutes, occasionally looking at Turner. He eventually folded, giving Turner more than 75,000 of his chips in the proccess. Turner sits with around 275,000 in chips.
Ng Keeps Firing
Evelyn Ng raised to 9,000 from middle position and the player in seat 8 made the call from the cutoff. The flop came out 1063 and Ng led out with 14,500. Seat 8 made the call and the turn was the 9. Ng would not stop with the pressure, firing 37,000 more into the pot. Seat 8 quickly made the call and the river brought the 7. Ng hesitated briefly, then unloaded a 65,000 shot into the pot. Seat 8 then took a long session in the tank. After almost 10 minutes of thinking, he finally mucked his hand and Ng took a pot of over 100,000. Her stack was at around 340,000.
Gazes Pushes Back
Action folded around to the player in seat 2 who raised to 9,200 from the cutoff. Action was next on Bill Gazes on the button, who repopped to 22,500. The blinds folded and action was back on seat 2. The cameras came over as seat 2 asked for time to make his decision. He finally folded AK face up and surrendered the pot to Gazes, who's stack grew to around 90,000.
Good Luck Betting Out Vos
From late position Seat 3 raised to 8,000 preflop and Mark Vos made the call in the big blind. The flop came K102 and Vos checked to seat 3, who bet 9,000. Vos made the call and checked when the 2 hit on the turn. Seat 3 checked behind this time and the J landed on the river. Vos fired 15,000 and seat 3 gave his hand up. Vos has around 300,000 in chips.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Gus Hansen takes monster pot with two pair
After raising to 24,000 from the cutoff position, Hansen then called a reraise to 84,000 by Joseph Ward out of the small blind. The flop came AT5 and Ward bet 100,000. Hansen took a long time to act, but ultimately called. The turn was the 9 and Ward checked. Hansen took his time and then bet 200,000. The action was on Ward and he stood up. He separated 200,000 from his stack and saw he would less than 200,000 remaining. After a couple minutes he moved all in. Hansen called and showed AT. Ward held AQ and needed a queen on the river. The river was the 7 and Hansen took the pot of 1.2 million chips. After the hand he had roughly 1.4 million chips.
Helge Pedersen Doubles Through Pontus Khosravi
Pontus Khosravi raised from the hijack and Helge Pedersen moved in from the button for 260,000 total. Khosravi made the call and showed AK, but he was trailing the KK of Pedersen. The board – Q7632 – did not help the Swede, and his stack took a big hit. After the confrontation, both players had stacks of about 530,000.
Hellmuth Melts Down in Three Consecutive Hands, But Doubles Later
The action folded to Santeri Valikoski in the small blind, who completed. Phil Hellmuth raised an additional 10,000, and Valikoski made the call. The flop came A52, and Valikoski checked. Hellmuth tossed three orange 5,000 chips across the line. “This is a bluff,” Hellmuth told his opponent as he pointed to the chips. Valikoski made the call and bet 25,000 when the A fell on the turn. Hellmuth announced a raise and added 30,000 to Valikoski’s bet. Valikoski called, and both players checked the 6 on the river. Hellmuth turned over K10, and his opponent showed 75. “No, he didn’t!” Phil Hellmuth screamed as he stood up from the table. “He called a raise with five-seven from out of position, that idiot from Northern Europe.” Hellmuth made quite a point of his opponent’s place of origin, mentioning it several times throughout his tirade.
After knocking his chips into a pile and screaming over and over in frustration, Hellmuth called another opponent’s pre-flop raise on the next hand and lost approximately 60,000 in chips when his opponent’s ace-king made top pair.
On the next hand, Hellmuth made it 20,000 to go from the cut-off and his opponent in the big blind raised to 85,000 total. Hellmuth instantly called, beating his opponent into the pot. His opponent asked how much Hellmuth had behind, as he still had not restacked his chips. When the KQ5 flop fell, the player made a bet of 75,000 and Hellmuth folded pocket jacks face up.
Hellmuth launched into another angry tantrum, culminating in him praying to the heavens for better circumstances and constantly referring to his situation as a "nightmare." Hellmuth finished the bender with under 160,000 in chips after losing approximately two-thirds of his stack in the three-hand span.
Later, though Hellmuth doubled when from the big blind his A-5 turned trips against a player with K-10 and top pair. The board in that hand was 10-9-5-5-Q. Hellmuth ended the level with about 320,000 chips.
Evelyn Ng Eliminated
Keith Ferrera raised to 19,000 from early position and Evelyn Ng pushed all in for her remaining 122,000 as the next player to act. The action folded around, and Ferrera quickly called and turned over KK. Ng’s 1010 were in bad shape, and the 98742 board offered no assistance.
Kostritsyn Loses Massive Pot
Alexander Kostritsyn took a significant blow when Cristian Dragomir snagged a two-outter on the river for a pot in excess of 1,000,000 in chips. Kostritsyn raised preflop to 22,000, Dragomir to his immediate right called, along with one other player and the big blind. The flop came J96, and once the big blind checked, Kostritsyn bet 58,000. Dragomir made the call, and the two were heads-up to see the 2 fall on the turn. Kostritsyn then bet out 105,000, and again Dragomir made the call. The 9 hit the river to pair the board, and Kostritsyn bet another 105,000. Dragomir then raised to 300,000 and Kostritsyn called. It was bad news for Kostritsyn who showed king-jack for top pair. Dragomir held K9 for trips made on the river and scoop the massive pot.
The Rich Get Richer
Chip-leader Jeremy Joseph can do no wrong. He elected to make a massive call against Damien Creurer, who was all-in for 271,000. Joseph, with chips to spare, made the call with KQ, and learned he was up against A9. No problem. Joseph hit the flop of K98, dodged the 10 on the turn, the made trips on the river with the K to add to his stack and send Creurer to the rails.
Khan, sixth a year ago, bows out
On a Q74 flop, Hevad Khan, who was short-stacked at around 150,000, found himself all in and in big trouble against Tiffany Michelle. Khan held 99 and was up against KQ, meaning he needed a nine and no hearts. The turn and river were 105 and Khan was eliminated. After a very loud and very deep run last year, Khan was much more subdued during this year's series. At the start of every tournament an announcement was made warning players not to celebrate excessively. Most if not all the time, the announcement would specifically mention not to lift up any chairs, something Khan did often last year. When he was knocked out today, he quietly got up and waited for his pay slip.
Incredible hand ends with ace-high winning
Stephane Hornet raised from late position, and then Matt Lessinger made a big reraise to 130,000 from the button. Then Alex Borteh came over the top from the big blind. He had both players covered and moved all in. Hornet was frustrated but went ahead and moved all in. The action was back on Lessinger, and he was also extremely exasperated. He ultimately folded, and was shocked to see the hands that were turned up.
Hornet: AK
Borteh: KQ
Board: 73386
Lessinger, who had 250,000 chips left, said he folded two queens. Borteh now has 285,000 chips left, while Hornet is now up to 500,000 chips.

Big Hands and Storylines:
The Table to Avoid
Table 1 in the blue section looks to be the most fearsome (and feared) table in the room. Matt Matros and James McManus each have about 1.1 million, and sandwiched between them is David Benefield who has 800,000.
The table has a brand new chip leader though. David Saab, from Melbourne Australia, just won a race with pocket queens against ace-king offsuit to vault himself to 1.5 million. These four big stacks now sit all in a row: Saab in seat 9, Matros in 1, Benefield in 2, and McManus in the 3 seat.
William Burdick Eliminated by Charalampos Tsaoussis
William Burdick was all-in with his 1010 against Tsaoussis’ AK. The flop – KQ10 – brought a couple of “Oohs” from the table. The turn was the A, turning Tsaoussis’ jack outs into split-pot outs but now giving him a full house draw. The river was the K, giving him the full house and eliminating Burdick. Tsaoussis now has 250,000.
Matusow gambles, down to 200k
With the board A975, Sigurd Eskeland found himself all in against Mike Matusow. Eskeland held AQ, while Matusow held T9 and needed help on the river. But the river was the 6 and Eskeland took down a pot of close to 400,000. After the hand Matusow had about 200,000 chips, less than half the average at this point.
Cantu doubles up Bishop
Joe Bishop was all in after a J-10-8 flop and Brandon Cantu, who is among the chip leaders, made the call. Cantu held A-J and was in terrible shape against Bishop's pocket aces. The turn and river were 10-8 and Bishop doubled up to about 500,000. Cantu now has just over one million chips.
Wrong Read for Ng
There was a raise and reraise preflop, and both Santeri Valikoski and Evelyn Ng saw the flop come down 822. Valikoski stepped out for a bet of 38,000, and Ng made a reraise to 90,000. Valikoski then pushed all-in, forcing Ng to make a decision for 74,000 more. A loss would tumble her down to about 120,000. Unable to believe her opponent, Ng called and showed 66. Valikoski had the goods however, tabling KK. The 5 on the turn and 7 on the river were narrow misses for Ng, but the pot was shipped to native of Finland.
Joseph Continues to Roll
A player in mid-position raised to 18,000 and current chip-leader Jeremy Joseph made the call from the cut-off. The button player also called, along with the big blind. The flop came A55, and after the blind checked, the original raiser bet 28,000. Joseph and the button player both called. The 9 on the turn was checked by all three players, then the K fell on the turn. The first player checked, and Joseph bet 100,000. The button player folded, and the first player couldn’t control his curiosity and called. Joseph flipped over A9 for two pair made on the turn, good enough to take the pot down. The player on the button claimed to hand held KJ for numerous outs after the flop, and had considered a call on the river.

Players Eliminated:
J.C. Tran
Big Hands and Storylines:
Gowen Adds to Stack
Evelyn Ng continued to accumulate chips by eliminating opponents. In one hand during the fourth level, Ng put her opponent all in pre-flop while holding pocket tens.

Big Hands and Storylines:

Evelyn Ng continued to accumulate chips by eliminating opponents. In one hand during the fourth level, Ng put her opponent all in pre-flop while holding pocket tens.
