The flop came A54, Sage checked, Seth bet 90,000, Kushner moved all in, Sage folded and Seth called. Seth: AA74 Seth was ahead on the flop with top set of aces against Kushner’s set of fives. The turn and river were the 9 and Q, offering no help to Joe Kushner who was eliminated in 9th place ($55,525). Seth moved up to about 1.3 million after the hand. Jason Mercier Eliminated in 8th Place ($72,132) Jason Mercier was all in before the flop against Micah Smith. Smith: KKQQ Board: 75399 Smith was ahead before the flop with a pair of kings. Mercier flopped two pair to take the lead, but the board paired on the river to counterfeit Mercier’s hand. Jason Mercier was eliminated in 8th place ($72,132). Nikolai Yakovenko Eliminated in 7th Place ($94,442) Jan Peter Jachtmann opened the pot from late position for 70,000, Nikolai Yakovenko reraised to 180,000 from the button, Jachtmann four-bet the pot and Yakovenko called all in. Jachtmann: AA64 Board: J8356 Jachtmann was ahead before the flop with a pair of aces against Yakovenko’s kings. Nikolai Yakovenko failed to improve and was eliminated in 7th place. Jachtmann ended the hand with just under 3.2 million in chips. Benjamin Sage Eliminated in 6th Place ($124,600) Andrew Brown opened the button for 58,000 from the cutoff, Benjamin Sage made a pot-sized reraise and Sage called all in for around 300,000. Benjamin Sage failed improve by the river and was eliminated in 6th place ($124,600) as Andrew Brown secured the chip lead with about 3.2 million. Ben Lamb — 551,600 Card Player Chip Counts: Matt Matros — 105,000 Notables Eliminated: Jason Mercier Hands: Jason Mercier Eliminated With 21 big blinds, Jason Mercier opened under the gun with the K J. Another player calls with the 9 8. The flop comes 8 7 2X, and Mercier’s opponent checks. Mercier shoves and his opponent calls. The 2 gave Mercier a flush and he was in good shape to double. However, the river was a 2, giving his opponent a full house. Mercier was gone early on day 3. Sorel Mizzi Doubles Poker pro Sorel Mizzi just got his stack of about 100,000 in preflop with pocket aces against another player’s A-K. The aces held and Mizzi was at 225,000 after the hand. Rob Perelman Doubles One player limped in and Rob Perelman shoved his short stack in the middle with A-2. A player in the big blind called with pocket queens and the limper folded. Fortunately for Perelman the flop brought an ace and he doubled to 55,000. Darryll Fish Doubles Darryll Fish got all of his chips into the middle with A-Q and unfortunately ran into A-K. However the board ran out K-10-3-4-J, giving him broad way on the end and the double to 175,000. Phil Hellmuth Over 100,000 Phil Hellmuth called a 4,000-chip bet with the K 10 in the small blind. The flop was sexy for Hellmuth as it fell 5 3 2, and he check-called a bet of 7,000. The 6 fell on the turn and action went check-check. Hellmuth hit his flush on the river when the 5 fell. He bet 16,000 and his opponent called. Hellmuth was at 110,000 after the hand. Greg Mueller Eliminated Greg Mueller got his stack of about 70,000 in with pocket aces on a K-8-5-10 board vs. Q-J. Jason Mercier Wins Event #35 ($619,575)Jun 23, '11 Hans Winzeler Eliminated in 2nd Place ($383,075) Jason Mercier started the final heads-up match slightly outchipped, but managed to take an early lead after flopping the nut straight to win a pot worth 2 million. From there Mercier managed to extend his lead a bit, but Winzeler chipped back up and the two players were soon enough deadlocked at just under 4 million each. Winzeler took command again closing out Level 28, but Mercier quickly took the lead back after winning a big pot with a straight at the beginning of Level 29. On the final hand of the night, Jason Mercier button-raised to 160,00 before the flop, Hans Winzeler reraised to 480,000 from the big blind and Mercier called. The flop came 9 4 3, Winzeler checked, Mercier bet 960,000, Winzeler moved all in and Mercier called. Winzeler: A K K J Winzeler was ahead with a pair of kings, but Mercier was drawing live with bottom pair and an open-ended straight draw. Mercier quickly took the lead by taking down a 2,000,000+ pot after flopping the nut straight early in the level. Mercier managed to gain some distance on Winzeler and at point had more than a 2:1 chip lead on his opponent before Winzeler was able to grind his way back to even at 3.8 million all. Mercier chipped up again towards the end of of the level after winning a big pot with trip sixes, but it was Hans Winzeler that went to the break with a slight lead of 4.3 million to Mercier’s 3.2 million.
