Level 4 Update -- Table of TerrorOct 03, '09 Blinds: 100-200 plus ante: 50 Players Remaining: 361 out of 422 (Unofficial) Average Chip Count: 35,600 Notable Eliminations: Felipe Ramos Hand of the Level: More Like Table of the Level The most eye-catching thing to occur during this level, is the bit-by-bit coming together of pros and players of interest at one of the tables near the door. Gus Hansen, known to never play the very early levels, sat down to a table that was also holding Annette Obrestad, James Obst (pictured right), Laurence Houghton, and Jeffrey Lisandro. Richard Ashby was also there but Obst’s set held against Ashby’s flush draw and he made his exit from the table of horrors. Although Hansen is not long here, he is actually down to 32,000. Straight Versus Flush On an interesting looking 9 8 7 flop, Chad Brown checks and his opponent bets 1,500. Brown calls and the turn is the 7. He checks again, and his opponent applies more pressure, betting 3,700. Brown pushes that to 9,100 and the player calls. The river is the 7 and both players check. Brown shows J 10 for the straight but his opponent has him crushed with A 3 for the flush. Both had it on the flop, but luckily the hand was not fatal. Little By Little Morten Erlandsen bets 1,400 on an A K 6 flop and his opponent calls. The J turn and the 2 river is checked down and Erlandsen shows pocket fours. It’s enough. On a table nearby, a conversation can be heared about a recent hand. The under-the-gun player bet 550, Julien Brecard called, and a Finnish player on the button raised it to 1,600. The big blind reraised it to 6,000, the original bettor folded, Brecard called, and the Finn folded. The flop came A-5-6 rainbow, the big blind checked, Brecard bet 4,600, the big blind thought about it and then folded pocket kings face up, giving the Frenchman a nice pot. Who is to say he had the ace at all, in fact, he cheekily hints that he had jacks, but who knows. PokerStars TV
The players now have their first break of the day before beginning level 5. Player Tags: Morten Erlandsen, James Obst All Aces Accounted ForOct 04, '09 It’s been an up and down, mostly up day for James “ANDY McLEOD” Obst. We caught up with the young online pro as he had two shorter stacks all in and drawing very, very slim. One player showed A2, the other showed AK and Obst turned over the superior AA. The board came Q8568 and Obst knocked out two, putting his stack at 255,000. Player Tags: James Obst James Obst Gets Set Under SetOct 04, '09 We caught up with the action late, but when we arrived James Obst was shipping over a large chunk of his stack to an opponent across the table. It appears that Obst flopped a set of sevens, only to lose to his opponent’s flopped set of aces. He looks a bit disheartened, but he still has 92,000 in chips in front of him. James Obst Grabs OneJan 17, '09 On a board of AK6A seat 8 bet 5,550 from the hi-jack and James Obst made the call from the big blind after considering his options for a minute. The river fell 2 and after Obst checked seat 8 mucked his hand. Apparently his action on the turn was a stone cold bluff. Player Tags: James Obst |
