Peter Eastgate raised to 350,000 on the button and Aaron Gustavson reraised to 900,000. Eastgate responded by moving all in for his last 4.5 million and Gustavson instantly called him with AQ.
Eastgate was dominated with A9 and failed to connect on a board reading 653KJ. Eastgate was eliminated in second place and earned £530,000, but the lion’s share went to Gustavson, who picked up £850,000 for the win.
First hand of the heads up battle and a huge pot breaks out.
With four million already in the pot on a board of Q 5 2 K 5, Peter Eastgate in the small blind bets 1,135,000 and Aaron Gustavson raises it to 3,300,000 from the big blind.
Eastgate counts out the chips, looks at Gustavson, and tanks. The pot is now 7,325,000. After a few torturous moments, Eastgate lets it go and says, “Oh boy.” He exhales as Gustavson chips up to more than 16 million and Eastgate moves down to 5 million.
The players now have a 60-minute dinner break before their heads up battle begins. Their chips counts are:
Aaron Gustavson: 14,045,000
Peter Eastgate: 7,895,000
Nikolai Senninger raises to 275,000 from the button and Aaron Gustavson reraises to 800,000 in the small blind. It’s 525,000 more for Senninger to call, and he does.
The flop is dealt Q 7 3 and Gustavson bets 1,140,000 in chips. Senninger calls without much hesitation and the turn is the 9. Gustavson thinks for a few moments and then verbally commits, “I’m all in,” he says and then looks back down at the felt, eyebrows raised.
Senninger goes into that dark and lonely tank, and shuffles his chips as he considers the call. The pot is worth 10 million at this point and Senninger silently thinks about it. He eventually decides to call and the two turn over their cards.
Senninger shows 8 8 and Gustavson shows Q 10.
The river is the 10 and Senninger (and his lucky charm, Simba the Lion) go out in third place. Senninger gets £285,000 for his efforts and we are now heads up.
Here is a player profile of one of the three remaining players left in the event courtesy of PokerStars:
Aaron ‘Aguskb’ Gustavson is 23 and from Las Vegas, USA. He is a PokerStars qualifier and started the day with 7,140,000 in chips. He now has 8,995,000 for the chip leader position.
Aaron is an accomplished online player who has had some good results on Poker Stars. Back in July he won a Sunday Warm Up for $135,010 and finished 12th in a WCOOP event this year.
Prior to winning big, he claims to have been a student although when asked about his major, he said: “It’s not important, I never went to class.â€
His best live tournament result to date was a win worth $53,592 at Borgata in Atlantic City. This will be his best result regardless of where he finishes.
As to what he does in his spare time, he said: “basketball, mostly basketball.â€
Getting short and desperate, Martin Gudvangen pushed for his last 1.1 million and Nikolai Senninger called behind him.
Gudvangen showed A3 and was dominated by Senninger’s AQ. The board came down K9629 and Gudvangen was eliminated. Senninger moved up to 5 million in chips, but is still the short stack at the table.
Nikolai Senninger raised to 275,000 and Aaron Gustavson reraised to 600,000. Senninger called and the flop came down 1093.
Gustavson continued with a bet of 775,000 and Senninger called. The turn is the 4 and Senninger checked once again. Gustavson fired in 2 million and Senninger folded.
Gustavson now has over 9 million in chips.
Aaron Gustavson bet 240,000 and Dominic Cullen moved all in for 1,420,000. Gustavson called and the two flipped their cards over. Gustavson had 8 8 and Cullen showed A 10.
This time, the board fell 8 5 4 Q K the pocket eights made a set to send the last U.K. player to the rail in fifth place. (Eastgate, however, does live in London at the moment)
Cullen earns a payday of £173,000.
The players are back for level 30 and blinds of 60,000-120,000 plus a 15,000 ante.
The players are now on a 15-minute break.
