Jean-Robert Bellande Poised For Deep RunJul 11, '13 Perpetually broke Jean-Robert Bellande had one of his best days ever in the World Series of Poker main event. After Day 2C on Wednesday, the professional gambler had a top 10 stack of 320,900. The entire field will be in action together for the first time Thursday. He said on Twitter after play ended for the night: “Extremely happy with 320,000 to end the day. I’ve had two deep runs but never with a stack this big on Day 2 or even Day 3.” Bellande also Tweeted a photo of his bank account balance on Sunday, saying that his bankroll at the time was just $10,738.13. The deep runs Bellande was referring to were in 2010 and 2011, where his soul was crushed by finishing in 78th and 65th, respectively. At one point on Wednesday, Michael Mizrachi got moved to Bellande’s left. Mizrachi, who made the final table of the main event in 2010, finished the day with 394,600. While “The Grinder” sat within the top 10, for part of the night he was the chip leader with about 500,000. Others with big stacks include Stephen Chidwick, Carlos Mortensen, Ashton Griffin, Bertrand Grospellier, Tobias Reinkemeier, Vivek Rajkumar, Allen Cunningham and Phil Ivey. Everyone is chasing Mark Kroon, who ended the day with 507,300. He is the current chip leader of the whole tournament. The Wisconsin native has about $600,000 in career cashes. One funny moment of the day was when, according to the WSOP, a pair of newlyweds were seated at the same table. During one hand, the husband moved all-in, and the wife called with a pocket pair. The husband rivered a straight to stay alive. Notable eliminations from the day include Jamie Gold, who did an interview on a break, Tom Dwan and Gus Hansen, who decided to skip Day 1 in order to play cash games, Nate Silver, Eric Baldwin, Jason Mercier, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Matt Keikoan, Jennifer Shahade, Matt Waxman, Todd Terry, Owais Ahmed, Joseph Cheong, Joe Hachem and Daniel Negreanu. Bellande moved in for his last 12,000 more and his opponent made the priced in call. Bellande’s Q-8 was well ahead of pocket nines and they stayed that way as the turn and river fell 73. Apparently Ly and seat 1 got all in on a board of 69J85. Their hands: Ly: JJ Both players had flopped a set and got all in. Ly’s was best and very early in the day he doubled up and was holding around 60,000 in chips. Seat 1 was crippled and looked sick. Sebok Takes One Early Entering the action after the turn on a board of 3Q84, Joe Sebok bet 750 and was called by the player in seat 1. The 3 fell on the river and seat 1 checked to Sebok who bet 1,575. Seat 1 thought for a moment and folded. Sebock was up to around 32,000 after the hand. Bellande Starts Off Going in Wrong Direction Jean Robert was in the small blind and checked to his opponent on the turn with the board reading 4562. His opponent fired 2,000. “You made the straight huh? I don’t have the flush, I’m going to call you,” said Bellande as he tossed in a call. The 4 came on the river, bringing a fourth diamond and pairing the board. Bellande checked, his opponent bet 7,000 and Bellande folded. Wattel Loses a Small Pot There was a raise from the cutoff to 250 and Mike Wattel made the call from the big blind. The flop came 953 and Wattel led out for 250. His opponent made the call and the dealer turned over the A on the turn. Wattel checked and his opponent bet 550, which he called. The river was the A and both players checked. Wattel showed J10 and was no good against the cutoff player’s J3. Left in the Deck: Yesterday saw 18 tables playing in the Pavilion Room and were all broken within the first hour. Today, there are 40 tables playing in the Pavilion Room and will break at some point today. Tournament officials are expecting approximately 200 more players than yesterday. Ricardo Fasanaro – 385,000 Card Player Chip Counts: Josh Brikis — 166,000 Notable Eliminations: Jeff Shulman Big Hands: Young Takes it To Singer On a board of 74AJ David Singer checked to Ryan Young who bet 6,000. The 10 fell on the river and Singer again checked. Young bet 10,500, sending Singer into the tank for a couple long minutes. Eventually, Singer made the call and Young announced “Ace-King.” He showed AK and Singer pushed his hand into the muck. Young had around 160,000 after the hand. Singer was down to just around 24,000. PearlJammer Steals One On a board of J73, Jon Turner was faced with a 12,000 chip bet into a pot of 27,000. Turnter had about 40,000 left in his stack and opted to min-raise to 24,000. His opponent went into the tank for minutes before the dealer called the clock on him. Turner’s opponent finally decided to fold. Turner exposed the Q5 for a complete bluff. Turner had around 82,000 after the hand. Kostritsyn Bullies Another Player On a flop of 844 seat 6 checked to Alexander Kostritsyn who bet 2,000. Seat 6 made the quick call and the K fell on the turn. Seat 6 checked to Kostritsyn who bet 6,500 this time. Seat 6 quickly folded and the Russian chipped up to 215,000. Jean Robert-Bellande Shows off for Cameras Action was on Jean-Robert Belande in a three-way pot on a flop of K-5-3. Bellande called the camera crews over and squeezed his pocket kings (for top set) to be visible for the camera to see. He took his time before betting 6,000. His opponents quickly folded and Bellande won the hand to increase his stack to about 50,000. No More Micon Bryan Micon put in a raise to 2,500 and was called by one player. The flop ran Q95 and Micon bet 3,700. His opponent made it 10,200 to go and Micon took some time to think it over. He eventually moved all in for about 40,000 and his opponent called. Their hands: Opponent: 78 Micon had a flopped set, but his opponent was drawing to all sorts of cards. One of those outs hit on the turn, as the 6 landed to give his opponent a straight. The 8 finished the board and Micon was eliminated. Micon cashed in two WSOP events this year for around $17,000. Check out his career results here. Shulman Eliminated Jeff Shulman has been eliminated from the feature table. He spent the day battling with the likes of Josh Arieh and Dan Harrington. On his final hand he ran ace-king suited into pocket aces. Both he and Josh Arieh will not be returning for day 3. Follow Shulman’s twitter here. Kenny Tran Doubles Up On a flop of A94 a player bet 18,000 into Kenny Tran. Tran tanked before finally calling. The Q fell on the turn and Tran’s opponent bet 40,000, enough to put Tran all in. Tran tanked again before making the call with the A8. He was good against the KQ of his opponent. The river was safe for Tran and he doubled to 150,000. Scott Clements Doubles Up an Opponent Scott Clements bet enough to put his opponent all in and he was called. Clements tabled A-Q and was dominated the A-K of his opponent. The board ran out 10-8-4-6-7 and Clements was down to 110,000 after the hand. Player Tags: Jeff Shulman, David Singer, Kenny Tran, Jean-Robert Bellande, Scott Clements, Ryan Young, Jon Turner, Bryan Micon Level 14, Hour One: Cantu And Antonius Chipping UpJul 13, '10 Blinds: 1,500-3,000 with a 400 ante Barry Shulman Cantu Takes In The Lights Of Broadway Brandon Cantu raised preflop and the button was the only caller. Both players then saw a flop of KQ10. Both players checked and the turn was the 4 and Cantu led for 11,500. His opponent made the call and they saw the 10 land on the river. Cantu fired 30,700 and his opponent eventually made the call. Cantu then turned over AJ for a flopped Broadway-straight. His opponent mucked and Cantu took the pot. He was at 350,000. The Harder They Fall Filippo Candido raised to 6,200 from under the gun and Sam Farha made the call. The action folded around to Christian Harder in the big blind and he shoved for about 90,000. Candido made the call and Farha got out of the way as Harder turned over AK, dominating Candido’s AQ. The board ran out J73JK and Harder doubled up to 190,000. Shorr Drops One In a battle of the blinds, Shannon Shorr raised to 6,600 from the small blind. The big blind then repopped to 16,000 and Shorr made the call. Both players saw the flop come down 942 and they both checked. The turn was the 6 and Shorr led out with 13,100. The big blind called and the river was the 5. Both players checked and Shorr tabled A6. It was no good as the big blind tabled pocket queens to take down the pot. Shorr was down to 415,000. Kassela Chips Up Picking up the action after the flop came down 10107, Frank Kassela bet 7,500 and the button made the call. The turn was the 4 and Kassela checked. The button bet 10,000 and Kassela called. The river was the Q and both players checked. Kassela then tabled 74 for tens and sevens and he took down the pot. He was at 270,000. Antonius At A Quarter Mil Patrik Antonius moved all in from the small blind and the big blind decided to put himself at risk by making the call. Antonius: A8 Antonius was dominating and the flop came down A96, giving Antonius a stranglehold on the hand. The turn was the 3, a blank. The river was the 8, giving Antonius an unnecessary two pair and he scored the knockout. He was at 250,000. Rolf Slotboom Takes Big Hit There was a flurry of raises preflop which ended up with Rolf Slotboom calling the all-in bet of his opponent for 67,000. Slotboom showed QQ and was way behind his opponent’s KK. “There are lots of queens in that deck,” pleaded Slotboom as the dealer dealt out the A36 fop. “Queen, Queen, Queen, save the best for last,” Slotboom continued. The turn was the 9 and the river was the A and Slotboom dropped to just 54,000. Shulman Eliminated Barry Shulman committed the last of his chips on a flop of Q68 and found some bad news. Shulman showed A6 and was trailing his opponent’s KQ. Shulman would need to hit his five-outer to keep his main event hopes alive, but the 4 on the turn and the 5 on the river sent Shulman home just shy of the money. Matt Matros Takes One We got to the table as the flop was being dealt and there was already well over 100,000 in the middle. The flop came out AJ4 and a player in the blinds checked over to Matt Matros who bet out 55,000. That sent the player in the blinds deep into the tank before finally folding. Matros took the pot and cracked the 300,000 mark as his stack grew to 325,000. Full House For Bellande The board read 10936 when Jean-Robert Bellande and Andrew Brown got all of the money in the middle. Bellande was way ahead of Brown when he showed the 33 for a flopped set of threes and Brown was left with just unimproved KK. The river was the 9, which filled up Bellande and he doubled up to 255,000 in chips and Brown fell to 360,000. Kostritsyn Wins a Big Pot The player in the hijack seat checked over to Alexander Kostritsyn on the button with the flop reading Q910. Kostritsyn bet 15,000, the hijack seat raised to 31,400 and Kostritsyn made the call. The turn was the 9 and the hijack bet out 44,700, which was called by Kostritsyn. The river was the J and both players checked. Kostritsyn showed QJ and his opponent showed a complete bluff when he tabled the 7-6. Nguyen Scores a Double Up It was a battle of the blinds when the player in the small blind raised and Scotty Nguyen put in a three-bet from the big blind. Nguyen had put in nearly all of his chips and apparently, the small blind thought all of them were in as he made the call and tabled A-J. “I’m not all-in, baby,” said Scotty as the dealer put out a flop of 2-2-4. They got the rest of his chips in the middle and Nguyen showed pocket queens. The queen on the turn assured Nguyen’s double up and he is up to 140,000. Player Tags: Frank Kassela, Barry Shulman, Jean-Robert Bellande, Patrik Antonius, Shannon Shorr, Brandon Cantu, Rolf Slotboom, Christian Harder Level 20 Hour Two Update: Richey Goes BustoJul 14, '10 Blinds: 6,000-12,000 with a 2,000 ante 1. Theo Jorgensen – 3,200,000 Brett Richey Bretty Richey Busto Dan Lu raised to 30,000 from the cutoff and Brett Richey three-bet to 90,000 from the button. After the blinds folded, Lu moved all-in and Richey made the call with his last 340,000 and showed 55. He was going to need some help from the dealer when he saw Lu’s 1010. Richey was stood up to leave the table after the turn as the board ran out QJ6103. Lu is over the million mark with the pot. Jan Boye Doubles, But Still Short Jan Boye moved all-in for 59,000 from the hijack and Christopher Bolt made the call from the big blind. Boye showed AK and was ahead of Bolt’s Q9. Bolt failed to improve and Boye doubled up to a still short 142,000. Jorgensen Takes Over Chip Lead Theo Jorgensen raised to 38,000 from the cutoff and Dorothy VonSachsen moved all-in for 75,000 from the button. Jorgensen made the call and the cards were turned on their backs. Jorgensen showed A6 and was up against the K10 of VonSachsen. The board ran out AKJ94 and one of the last women standing was sent to the rail. Jorgensen is at 3,200,000 in chips and looks to be the chip leader at the moment. Fennell Busts Billirakis Four players saw a flop of Q62. James Fennell checked from the big blind, another player checked, and Steve Billirakis bet 58,000. Garrett Adelstein called and Fennell made it 175,000. The other player got out of the way and only Billirakis called the check-raise. The turn was the 5 and Fennell bet 230,000. Billirakis then moved all-in for 734,000 and was called by Fennell. It was an unfortunate turn card for Billirakis who turned two pair with his 56 and was still behind the set of Fennell who tabled 22. The river was the 8 and Billirakis was sent to the rail. On the other hand, Fennell is just under 2,000,000 in chips. Racener in Cruise Control On the river, John Racner fired out 365,000 into a pot that already had about 500,000 in the middle with the board reading J8QKJ. Jeff Banghart called the bet, but couldn’t rake the pot as Racener showed A10, giving him broadway. Racener is now at 2,150,000 and Banghart dropped to 330,000. Dudley’s Dreams Dashed Dash Dudley was all-in for KJ for 183,000 and Sergey Serafimov called from the small blind with AK. Dudley was in bad shape as the board came out 95483 and Dudley was eliminated from this year’s main event. Siegel Gets the Best of Kostritsyn Jordan Siegel got his last 322,000 into the middle preflop and got a call from Alexander Kostritsyn. Kostritsyn held pocket tens, but was behind Siegel’s pocket aces. The flop came 710A, leaving Kostritsyn drawing to just the case ten for the win. The turn was the 7 and the river was the 3, which couldn’t give Kostritsyn quads for a sick beat. Two players at the table claimed they had folded aces after the hands were turned up, so they are either playing with an illegal deck of cards, or the players’ memory are slipping a bit. Bellande Busts One Steven Padres moved all-in preflop and was called by Jean-Robert Bellande. Bellande was in a commanding position with his KK against Padre’s QQ. The board ran out A927K to give Bellande the pot and if Bellande keeps running like this, maybe he wont be “BrokelivingJRB” on twitter anymore. He is now up to 1,260,000. Mizrachi Doubles On a flop of 988, Robert Mizrachi moved all-in for his last 132,000 and was called by Vern Keller. Mizrachi showed KK and Keller tabled 95. The board finished off QJ and Mizrachi doubled up to 370,000. The Mizrachi count is at two with both him and his brother Michael in the tournament. Player Twitter Accounts Jean-Robert Bellande Player Tags: Robert Mizrachi, Theo Jorgensen, Steve Billirakis, Brett Richey, Jean-Robert Bellande, John Racener, Dash Dudley, Alexander Kostritsyn Level 20 Hour One Update: Will Failla EliminatedJul 14, '10 Blinds: 6,000-12,000 with a 2,000 ante 1. Bellande was down to 1,100,000 after the hand. Paul Varano Eliminated Paul Varano got his stack of 148,000 into the middle with the 109 and was up against Garrett Adelstein’s JJ. The board ran out J102410 and Adelstein busted his opponent. He was at 1,220,000 after the hand. Bryn Kenney Eliminates a Player Kenney bet 30,000 from the cutoff and Kelly Johnson raised to 60,000 from the small blind. Kenney made the call. The flop came K93 and Johnson bet 60,000. Kenney raised to 120,000. Johnson moved all in for 380,000 and Kenney called with the 99. Johnson tabled the KQ. The turn brought the 2 and the 3 fell on the river. Kenney took the hand and was at over 2,000,000 a couple hands later. Shane Rose Eliminated Shane Rose moved all in for 100,000 from early position and Javed Abrahams called. Shorr Drops One In a battle of the blinds, Shannon Shorr raised to 6,600 from the small blind. The big blind then repopped to 16,000 and Shorr made the call. Shorr Drops One In a battle of the blinds, Shannon Shorr raised to 6,600 from the small blind. The big blind then repopped to 16,000 and Shorr made the call. Full House For Bellande The board read 10936 when Jean-Robert Bellande and Andrew Brown got all of the money in the middle. Jan Boye Doubles, But Still Short Jan Boye moved all-in for 59,000 from the hijack and Christopher Bolt made the call from the big blind. Boye showed AK and was ahead of Bolt’s Q9. He spent the majority of the first level walking around the tournament area and laying odds to everyone on a last longer bet. He got some takers, while others had other things to say to Bellande. “You’re too loud,” Chau Giang said. “There are no cameras on you and you are making my ears hurt!” “You can’t win a last longer if you’re not in your seat baby,” Scotty Nguyen said. Bellande didn’t seem to hear either of them as he kept looking for takers. Player Tags: Tom Franklin, John D'Agostino, Tom Schneider, Jean-Robert Bellande, Yuval Bronshtein, David Baker |
