Updates on Final Day (Feb 25, 05)

Erick Lindgren wins the Professional Poker Tour Championship

Erick Lindgren wins the Professional Poker Tour Championship. Chris, after his initial $50,000 bet into the pot gets re-reaised, goes all-in pre-flop and Erick calls. Erick shows 3-3 and his pocket pair is up against a Ah-2h for Chris. Erick flops a set when A-Q-3 comes on the river. The turn is a 9 and the river is a 5, ending this tournament with a set of threes giving Erick Lindgren the victory.

Erick grinds down Bigler's stack

Erick bets $45,000 pre-flop and Chris calls. Flop comes 8-6-3 rainbow and Erick bets $40,000 at it. Chris folds. Players see a flop of J-6-2 on the cheap. Chris bets $20,000 at it and Erick calls. The turn card is an A and Chris makes it $55,000 to go. Erick re-raises another $100,000 and Chris drops his hand.

Heads Up-Chip counts

The players shake hands and get ready to settle it on the felt. Erick is in a commanding lead with $1,400,000 in chips versus $404,000 for Chris.

Daniel Negreanu gets busted

Pre-flop, Daniel declares he is all-in. Erick goes over the top and declares all in with his larger stack. Chris get out of the way. The players flip their cards and Erick shows 10-10 vs. Daniel's underdog Ac-7h. The flop comes 9-9-9. Daniel needs another A or the fourth nine. The turn card is a 7 and, down to four outs, (three A and a single 9) the river hits close, with an 8, but still drowns Daniel. After the hand, Negranu pays respects to his good friend who just busted him, saying the previous hand was a knuckleball that threw him off his game a bit. Erick did indeed bluff Daniel off the previous pot, with Daniel folding a pair of 8s and Erick getting aggressive with his Q-10.

Erick all-in on big re-raise bet

All three players see a flop cheaply. It comes J-8-2 rainbow. Chris and Daniel check. Erick bets $80,000, Chris folds and Daniel brings it up $150,000 more. Erick re-raises Daniel all-in for about $250,000 more. Daniel asks for his time bank allowance (an extra 30 seconds). Daniel is still undecided and, as announcer counts down, Daniel runs out of time and his hand is declared dead.

Negreanu and Lindgren go at it.

Avoiding heads up action for the majority of the day, these two see a 8-8-6 flop with two hearts from the blind positions cheaply. Erick bets $20,000. Daniel raises to $40,000 and is called. The turn comes 5s. Daniel checks and Erick bets $70,000. Daniel has the clock come down on him and decides to muck his hand.

Negreanu muscles the competition on early three way hands

Erick calls $16,000, Chris calls in the small blind and Daniel makes it $65,000 more to go. Both Erick and Chris drop their cards and Daniel makes a profit. Chris opens the pot for $45,000. Daniel re-raises it $80,000 more. It's $125,000 to Erick, he passes and, again, Chris drops his cards, respecting Negreanu's re-raise.

Three way action

First hand of three way action, Daniel and Chris see a cheap A-3-2 flop. Daniel leads into it with $20,000 and Chris calls. Turn card is the Qd. Both players check, the river card is 6c. Chris bets $40,000. Daniel comments "I'm having trouble figuring out what you have bro" and he mucks his hand after some deliberation.

Blinds increase

Blinds will be increased to $8000 / $16,000 and the ante will be $2000 once play resumes after a short break. Payouts for this event are as follows $60,000 for third place, $100,000 for second and $225,000 for the first place finisher.

Chip Counts

Now with just three players left and a little over two hours of solid play under our belts, Daniel Negreanu, Chris Bigler and Erick Lindgren are still in the hunt. Chris has a healthy chip lead with $734,000 vs. Daniel's $543,000 and Erick's $527,000. all about evenly stacked.
