Atlantic City's casinos will close 8 a.m. Wednesday thanks to a state budget impasse that, if not immediately solved, will cause all government offices and services in the state of New Jersey to stop working.

The Borgata Summer Open is schedule to start at 10 a.m. the same day.

The casinos will close because the state's legislature failed to pass a new budget before last year's budget expired on July 1.

The Casino Control Commission regulates the 12 casinos in Atlantic City, but without a budget, the Commission is set to close along with the rest of the state. The casinos lost an appeal to the state's Superior Court Friday that would've declared Control Commission employees "essential."

The Borgata just opened its new poker room Friday and the Borgata Summer Open is scheduled to start with a $560 no-limit event July 5. An event is scheduled to take place everyday until July 20, when the $5,200 championship event is scheduled to end. In addition to the tournament events, single-table satellites and tournaments are also scheduled to run around the clock.

A representative for the Borgata couldn't be reached for comment as of Sunday night. Check back with CardPlayer.com to learn more about this developing story when more details are made available.
