It has been a little over a year since I became the bureau chief here at
Card Player Europe. As great as I thought the magazine already was when I assumed the position, we have done our best to continue to improve it in many ways. The most obvious change, of course, is that the magazine now contains much more editorial content. For instance, the recent issue with Gus Hansen on the cover was the first time the magazine had exactly 100 pages. But, obviously, we are not trying to improve just in terms of page count. More than anything, our focus is on maintaining the high quality of the content.
As a result, we have added quite a few new writers to our staff in the past 12 months or so, especially for our European news section, where monthly updates are provided by some of the top writers in the industry. In addition to Roy Brindley (Ireland), who was already with us, Michael Keiner (Germany/Austria), Jen Mason (UK), Benjamin Gallen (France), and Ola Brandborn (Scandinavia) have joined the
Card Player Europe team. Not only are they what I consider excellent writers, they are also very up-to-date about anything that is happening in their respective countries and with their players. For my home country, the Netherlands, we have two reporters. In addition to Anthon-Pieter Wink, who has already written quite a few columns for us, starting this issue, we will also have regular contributions by Peter Dalhuijsen. Peter has built a reputation in the Netherlands of being a good and creative player; plus, he is also a very gifted writer, and the co-owner of one of the largest Dutch news sites. So, I say, welcome to the
Card Player Europe family, Peter. I hope and expect that you will quickly feel at home with us.
In addition to these news sections, we also have tried to add European strategy columns to the mix. In these columns, you have been able to enjoy some interesting hand breakdowns recently, specifically by 2005 European Poker Champ Rob Hollink and "Milkybar Kid" Ben Grundy. In addition, Dave Downing writes specifically about online play, and he does it with a style that many people seem to appreciate. All in all, with the excellent material from our American contributors and the experienced European writers that we already had (Padraig Parkinson and Lucy Rokach, to name but two), I am certain that you will continue to enjoy our magazine more and more.
Of course, if you have any kind of feedback, both positive and negative, or think there are specific things that can still be improved, don't hesitate to contact us. At
Card Player Europe, we are trying to improve all the time, in every way possible. With your assistance, we will do just that.
