Imagine a road trip through the rustic and beautiful hills of the New England countryside. As you travel along, you are taken in by the tranquility of nature at its best, peaceful serenity at its purest, and standing majestically in the midst of the towering pines is the largest casino in the world. What do you do? You leave the tranquility and serenity behind and enter a world of energized excitement, the world of Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut.

Topping off the list of things to do at Foxwoods in November is one of the East Coast's premier poker events, the World Poker Finals. In the last year, poker has grown in casinos across the country, and at Foxwoods, poker has not only grown – it has exploded! It has grown to the point that this year, Foxwoods is guaranteeing a $1 million prize pool for the $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold'em championship event. As the first charter member of the World Poker Tour (the televised weekly poker series on the Travel Channel), Foxwoods is helping to pave the way for worldwide recognition of the hottest emerging game of the 21st century – a game in which a silver-haired grandmother can go toe to toe with a strapping young man and emerge victorious. The World Poker Finals is providing the playing arena for this game, and the lineup will consist of thousands of players from around the globe. Commencing Oct. 27 with a $300 no-limit hold'em event, the action will continue for 22 days. Seven-card stud, stud eight-or-better, hold'em, Omaha eight-or-better, and a Seniors event (hosted by Oklahoma Johnny Hale) will all be part of the three-week extravaganza, which will conclude with the WPF/WPT $10,000 no-limit hold'em championship. The final table of this championship event will be held on Nov. 17 and will be taped for next year's televised World Poker Tour series. Seats for this event can be won in Act 1, Act 2, and Act 3 satellites for as little as $30. For the taping of the final table for the WPT television series, free spectator seating for 300 will be available and will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Additionally, Foxwoods will be holding a tournament poker seminar on Saturday, Oct. 25, hosted by Mike Sexton, poker tournament player and commentator for the World Poker Tour television series. Call Foxwoods at (800) FOXWOODS, Ext. 23116 to reserve a seat; seating is limited.

There has been an enormous response by poker players to past World Poker Finals events, and in an effort to ensure the ongoing high quality of the tournament, as well as the comfort of the players, a limit of 600 players has been set for each event. Hotel rooms on property at Foxwoods are almost sold out, but arrangements have been made for additional accommodations within close proximity of the casino. Call the hotel reservations department and reference the group code "POKE" to obtain information about these optional accommodations.

The Foxwoods poker room offers low buy-in weekly tournaments, Saturday through Thursday, featuring limit hold'em, no-limit hold'em, and seven-card stud. Call the Foxwoods poker room for details. Registration opens one hour prior to the start of these tournaments, most of which have a 200-player maximum.

Live-action poker at Foxwoods also is great. A highly qualified staff, comfortable surroundings, and tableside food service all combine to provide a top-notch poker experience for players at all limits. And Foxwoods has all of the amenities needed to complete a first-class experience – from dining to headliner shows to nightclubs or shopping. And away from the poker tables, Foxwoods offers hundreds of gaming tables and thousands of slots in three separate casinos, all under one roof.

At the end of your stay at Foxwoods, catch your breath and don't forget to pick up your tranquility and serenity at the door. It's all part of a terrific package called Foxwoods!diamonds
