A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of announcing the launch of CardPlayerPoker, CardPlayer.com's online poker room, where you "play for free but win for real." In my column, I mentioned that although I played poker as a student, we didn't play Texas hold'em, and we didn't even know what tournaments were. Several of you have told me that you had similar experiences and, like me, had to make quite a transition when you shifted to playing poker "with the big boys" in casinos. When I began playing serious poker, I raided the gaming bookstores to find poker books that would bring me up to speed.
Today I am happy to announce that Card Player is taking one more step in bringing you the knowledge you need to enjoy poker to the fullest – and at a price you deserve. We are now offering the Championship series of poker books at a highly competitive 30 percent discount to Card Player readers, CardPlayer.com online newsletter subscribers, and CardPlayerPoker online players.
The newest book in the Championship series is Championship Satellite Strategy, by world poker champions Tom McEvoy and Brad Daugherty. Literally thousands of people are playing satellites online and in brick-and-mortar casinos every day, trying to win their way into a big-money tournament. Everybody knows Chris Moneymaker's rags-to-riches satellite story, and they figure, "If he can, why can't I?" But until last month, they couldn't find anything on how to do it. That's when McEvoy and Daugherty stepped up to the plate with their step-by-step strategy book that covers one-table satellites, supersatellites, online satellites, and every other kind of satellite you can think of.
McEvoy has been at the writing game for a long time, publishing his first book on how to win poker tournaments in 1985. Two years before that, he became the first player to parlay a satellite win into the World Series of Poker championship. Daugherty is the "new kid on the block" in the Championship series. In 1991 he became the first player to win $1 million in the WSOP championship event. I've played lots of tournaments with Tom and Brad and can recommend their books highly. In fact, I'm looking forward to seeing the second book they're co-authoring, No-Limit Texas Hold'em for New Players. I'll let you know when it comes off the press, probably in early January.
The flagship of the Championship series is Championship No-Limit & Pot-Limit Hold'em, the perennial bestseller co-authored by T.J. Cloutier and McEvoy. T.J. and I have played lots of poker together, and I can tell you this for sure – when T.J. talks, people listen. He has won Card Player's Player of the Year title twice, in 1998 and 2002.
I'm pretty proud that these three great champions write for Card Player, and that's another reason I'm glad to pass along their expertise and advice to you at a special discount.
