The Big Event -- Day 1A at the BikeThe first day of play attracts 263 Players at the Bicycle Casino |
|
It was anybody’s guess to how many people would attend The Big Event at the Bicycle Casino when cards got into the air on Saturday at noon in Los Angeles. Attendance was promising on Day 1A, with 263 players jumping into the tournament before registration closed for the day. By the end of the night 130 remained from the initial entries, and they will join those who enter the tournament and survive day 1B on Sunday for day 2 action tomorrow.
The Day 1A chip leader is Chris DeMaci, who holds 213,300. DeMaci has previously found success here at the Bicycle Casino (He took second place at the North American Poker Tour LA event last November and won $440,000) and he looks poised to make a deep run here again at The Big Event. DeMaci jumped into the chip lead yesterday when he eliminated another professional player. Thayer Rasmussen was all in preflop against DeMaci after a series of bets and raises during the sixth level of play and then they revealed their cards:
DeMaci: K K
Rasmussen: J J
Board: A 3 2 9 6
DeMaci won the hand to grow his stack to 146,000 which gave him the chip lead at that point and he never relinquished it during the late stages of the night.
Joining Rasmussen on the rail during Day 1A were many other notables, including Phil Collins, Richard Toth, Elliot Smith, Alex Keating, Mario Ho, Sam Stein, Dan O’Brien, David Sands, Adam Levy, Steven Levy, Bruce Buffer, Mohsin Charania, Matt Marafioti, Darryll Fish, Chris Moorman, Mike Leah, Kyle Bowker, and Justin Smith.
Other notables at the top of the leader board include Alexander Kamberis, who is the only other player to hold more than 200,000 at this point (202,800). Dan Heimiller is also high in the standings with 156,300, and he will be looking to make another final table in this event after cashing in third place at the World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational last week.
Tune back in on Sunday to follow all of the action from The Big Event in Card Player’s live coverage of the tournament.
