Online poker turnover was down 13 percent in France in the first quarter of 2013 according to new figures out by French regulator ARJEL.

Cash game turnover fell 13 percent to €1.48 billion in the first three months of 2013 from €1.7 billion in the same period of 2012 while tournament turnover rose just 2 percent or €8 million to €375 million in the period.

The number of active player accounts in cash games fell nine percent compared to the first quarter of 2012, while active tournament player accounts dropped six percent .

ARJEL said the decrease in numbers was largely due to a decrease in players which could generally be described as “regulars”.

Online poker in France contracted significantly in 2012.
