Only a few weeks remain in the 2014 Card Player Player of the Year race, sponsored by CarbonPoker. Here’s a look at what went down as the tournament circuit moves into it’s final stages:
Aria $25,000 NLH High Roller
A total of 59 entries were made in Aria’s $25,000 no-limit hold’em eight max high roller event last week, building a total prize pool of $1,430,750. The top eight finishers made the money, but the lion’s share of the prize pool was awarded to Pratyush Buddiga, who topped the tough final table to capture his second title and sixth final table finish of 2014.
For the win Buddiga, who won the 2002 Scripps National Spelling Bee, earned $543,683 and 420 POY points. With this win the Colorado native increased his year-to-date earnings to $1,806,103 and moved into 22nd place in the overall Player of the Year race standings.
Buddiga wasn’t the only POY contender to earn points at this final table, however. Brian Rast finished third, earning $214,613 and 280 points. Rast now sits in 46th place in the overall POY standings, with $1,113,913 in to-date-earnings in 2014. Doug Polk placed seventh for $42,923 and 105 POY points, which were just enough to see him climb a few spots in the POY rankings to 17th place. Polk has has made seven final tables in total this year, winning his first WSOP gold bracelet and a $100,000 buy-in super high roller at Aria along the way. His year-to-date earnings total $3,546,526.
Eureka Poker Tour Prague Main Event
A total of 621 entries turned out for the €2,200 Eureka Poker Tour Prague no-limit hold’em main event to build a total prize pool of $1,501,131 USD. The field was narrowed down to a stacked final table that included the likes of Ari Engel, Eugene Katchalov and Dan Shak.
In the end Louis Salter was awarded the title, taking home $153,209 and 1,260 POY points for the win. This was Salter’s third final table finish of 2014 and as a result climbed to 49th place in the overall standings, with 2,220 points and $345,256 in year-to-date earnings.
Eugene Katchalov finished third for $122,453 and 840 POY points. This was his third big final table at EPT festivals in 2014, with his biggest score of the year being a runner-up showing in the EPT Deauville main event for $518,981. After this latest score he climbed to 12th place in the overall POY rankings with 3,320 points and $847,514 in to-date earnings.
