After starting with 17 initial members, or houseguests, the cast of Big Brother is down to 11. Professional poker player Vanessa Rousso is still in the running, competing for the $500,000 first-place prize given to the eventual winner.
Big Brother, which started in 2000 on CBS, is a reality game show where contestants live in a custom-built house on a studio lot completely isolated and cut off from any communication to the outside world. Each week, the remaining players compete in challenges and vote to evict someone from the house.
Rousso is no stranger to high-stakes competition, having won more than $4.5 million in poker tournaments over her 10-year career. Her biggest accomplishment was taking down the European High Roller Championship at the EPT Grand Final in 2009 for $962,958.
The 32-year-old has had a polarizing effect on Big Brother fans. While some appreciate her game play, others are turned off by her efforts to manipulate the other contestants on the show.
Rousso has taken some time away from the felt in recent years to pursue a new passion, becoming a DJ and music producer. Earlier this year, she and longtime sponsor PokerStars parted ways.
In 2009, Card Player TV took a look at her yellow Lamborghini Gallardo.
Rousso isn’t the only poker personality to make the jump to reality TV. In 2007, Jean-Robert Bellande was a cast member of Survivor: China. In 2009, Maria Ho and Tiffany Michelle competed on The Amazing Race. Over the years, it has been rumored that Phil Hellmuth turned down offers to appear on Dancing With The Stars and Wife Swap.
In 2007, poker player Alex Outhred won $500,000 on the show Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? Most recently, Alex Jacob went on a six-day Jeopardy winning streak, earning a total of $151,802.
