Chip leader Sofiane BoulilaA total of 359 entries were made in the 2016 World Cup of Cards Card Player Poker Tour $1,650 CAD buy-in no-limit hold’em event at the Playground Poker Club in Montreal. As a result of the strong turnout the event blew away the $400,000 CAD guarantee to create a final prize pool of $522,345 CAD.

From that sizable turnout the field has been narrowed to just 92 players heading into day 2. The top 36 finishers will make the money, with a min-cash being worth $3,200 CAD and the top prize of $110,000 CAD to go the eventual champion, who will also hoist the WCC trophy once they emerge victorious.

The overall chip leader going into day 2 is Sofiane Boulila with 494,500. Other big stacks include Jean Sebastien Dubois with 439,000 and Samuel Barre 301,000.

Notables still in the field include Canadian poker pros Samuel Chartier (123,000) and Marc Etienne McLaughlin (48,600). Chartier has more than $2.4 million in career live earnings while McLaughlin rose to fame when he finished sixth in the 2013 World Series of Poker main event.

Big names who played the event but failed to make it through to day 2 include two-time bracelet winner Kevin Macphee, Marc Andre Ladouceur and CPPT Venetian main event ninth-place finisher Tim Reilly,

The remaining 92 players will return at noon on Monday, Sept. 12 to play out day 2. Those who make it through the day will return on Sept. 13 to play down to a champion.
