The 2017 World Series of Poker Players Championship reached the money early Wednesday morning in Las Vegas. Still in contention were six-time bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu, four-time WSOP champion Mike “The Mouth” Matusow and 2013 PPC winner Matthew Ashton.
The chip leader going into day 4 was Isaac Haxton (pictured), who held 3,268,000 chips.
The $50,000 Poker Players Championship eight-game mix event drew a field of 100 entries, building a prize pool of $4,800,000. The top 15 made the money. A min-cash was worth $77,320, with the eventual champion set to walk away with a bracelet and the top prize of $1,395,767. The winner will also get their name added to the prestigious David “Chip” Reese Memorial Trophy.
The man to bubble the event was Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, who finished fourth last year for $380,942. Mizrachi, of course, won the event in 2010 and 2012. Unfortunately, he won’t have another shot at his third Players Championship title.
“Everyone sees my face deep in this tournament every year,” Mizrachi said at around the dinner break on Tuesday. “I play my best in every tournament, but it seems like I run the best in this event.”
“There’s no ego for me in poker,” he said of what it’s like to compete year after year against the game’s best players in the $50,000 buy-in. “I rather play with inexperienced players than the guys [in this tournament].”
