Day 1A of the 2017 Card Player Poker Tour World Cup of Cards $400,000 guaranteed $1,650 no-limit hold’em main event is in the books. A total of 76 entries turned out to Playground Poker Club in Montreal for the first of two starting flights, with 18 players remaining after 14 levels of exciting poker action.
The chip leader following the conclusion of day 1A was Blake Tarbell (pictured above) with 274,000. Other big stacks include Jiachen ‘Jack’ Gong (226,000), Stuart Taylor (196,500) and Douglas Watson (185,500).
Plenty of recognizable faces were in the field on day 1A but failed to bag up chips, including two-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Kristen Bicknell, WSOP Asia Pacific high roller bracelet winner Mike Leah, WSOP Circuit main event winner Samuel Chartier, 2008 WSOP main event final tablist and bracelet winner Scott Montgomery, 2013 WSOP main event sixth-place finisher Marc Etienne Mclaughlin and 2017 WSOP main event 22nd-place finisher David Guay.
Day 1B kicks off at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow, with late registration open until 4:00 pm. The survivors of the two starting flights will combine on Sunday, Aug. 27 for day 2. The final table will play down to a champion on Monday, Aug. 28.
Players will start with 30,000 in chips, with 45-minute levels throughout day 1B. From day 2 on levels will increase to 60 minutes in duration until heads-up play, at which point the levels will be shortened to 30 minutes.
