WSOP Bracelet in $5,000 Event to Be Won Today

Four Events Take Place at Rio

Today, the second bracelet of the 2007 World Series of Poker will be won when the $5,000 mixed hold'em event that began Friday concludes. The final table is set to begin at 2 p.m. PT, and is one of four events that are taking place in the Amazon Room today.

The $1,500 no-limit even that started yesterday also continues at 2 p.m., when the last 138 players take their seats; the $1,500 pot-limit hold'me starts at noon; and the $2,500 Omaha/stud eight-or-better event starts at 5 p.m.

The $5,000 mixed hold'em event, which features alternating rounds of limit and no-limit hold'em, features a tough final table. The final nine and their chip counts are as follows:

  • Steve-Paul Ambrose, $771,000
  • Greg Mueller, $687,000
  • Steve Billirakis, $562,000
  • Tony George, $546,000
  • Kirk Morrison, $512,000
  • Roger McDow, $320,000
  • John Younger, $94,000
  • Jon Turner, $88,000

There's plenty of prestige at this table. Ambrose is the 2006 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure champion ($1.3 million), Greg Mueller finished fourth at the 2006 World Poker Tour Challenge ($142,000), Morrison took second at the World Poker Tour championship in April ($2 million), Turner is a well-known online pro who plays under the name PearlJammed, and all the rest of the players except Younger have cashed in major tournaments, and he has cashed in a handful of smaller-buy-in ones.
