The Card Player Poker Tour has made its way to Black Hawk, Colorado for the inaugural stop at the Golden Gates Casino, and by all early indications, it’s already guaranteed to be a massive success.

Despite ongoing tournament action all over the country, the CPPT Golden Gates $600 buy-in event drew a whopping 243 entrants for day 1A, creating a prize pool thus far of $126,350. Registration, however, will remain open until the end of the dinner break on day 1B, and tournament officials are expecting an even bigger turnout.

David LevyEach player began the tournament with 40,000 in chips, and by the end of 16 levels, just 55 players remained with an average stack of 176,727. Leading the way is David Levy, who bagged up 435,000. Levy was a late alternate to the tournament and lasted just a few minutes on his first bullet, but his second bullet proved to be much better.

Other big stacks included Scott Craft (432,000), who won a big flip during the final level when his pocket jacks held against A-Q, and Johnny Lopez (417,000), who crippled a fellow big stack late in the evening with a set of fives.

Day 1B begins at noon MT, with unlimited re-entries and registration open until the start of level 13.
