Viktor Blom has won the 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Germany €5,300 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event, defeating a total field of 927 entries to win €850,000 ($1,054,000 USD) and his first live tournament title in six years. The ultra high stakes online cash game player, better known as “Isildur1” online, now has over $2.7 million in lifetime live cashes.
The 27-year-old Swedish poker pro earned 1,824 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win, enough to catapult him into fifth place on the POY leaderboard for the time being.
Blom entered the eight-handed final table in the middle of the pack, but quickly rose up the rankings by picking up the AA to call Niko Wieland’s all-in and eliminate him in eighth place ($86,800 USD) when the aces held up.
Blom’s next elimination came when he raised to 21,000,000 on the button and Joao Simao called from the big blind. The flop brought the K77 and Simao moved all-in for 31,500,000. Blom called with the A8 for ace high, and was ahead of Simao’s J9. The 2 on the turn and the A secured the pot for Blom and sent Simao to the rail with $347,200 USD for his fourth-place finish.
Pavel Plesuv eliminated satellite qualifier Rickie Silcock in third ($496,000 USD) to take a small lead into heads-up play against Blom. The two agreed to a deal that saw each of them lock up €750,000 ($930,000 USD) in prize money, leaving the title and €100,000 to play for.
In the final hand Blom raised to 35 million from the button with blinds of 6 million-12 million. Plesuv called and the flop brought the KQ9. Plesuv check-called the 45 million bet from Blom and the A hit the turn. Plesuv check-called again, this time for 105 million. The 5 completed the board and Plesuv announced that he was all-in. Blom thought it over before electing to call with the K6 for second pair with a weak kicker, and was shown the Q7 for a worse pair with a missed flush draw. With that Plesuv was eliminated in second place ($930,000 USD) and Blom secured the title.
