Earlier this month, the World Poker Tour announced a multi-year partnership with Zynga, developer of the popular free-to-play social casino game Zynga Poker.

As part of the deal, Zynga will introduce WPT-themed, in-game tournaments to Zynga Poker, a news release said. The games are expected to kick off in the second half of 2018.

The news comes during what Zynga calls an “exciting” time for its decade-old poker platform, available on Facebook and on mobile devices. According to a company financial report released earlier this month, Zynga Poker ended 2018 with Q4 mobile revenue up 44 percent year-over-year. “This performance was driven by improved player engagement with popular features such as Challenges and Leagues,” the company said.

Zynga Poker accounted for 22 percent of Zynga’s total online games revenue last year of $666 million. Though Zynga Poker is free to play, poker players can enhance their experiences through in-game purchases.

“We’re incredibly proud to bring the World Poker Tour to Zynga Poker,” said Adam Pliska, CEO of the WPT. “Zynga has built the largest social poker game, and we are confident their millions of players will enjoy their experience even more with the introduction of WPT-themed tournaments.”

Zynga touted the WPT’s success in “real-world poker tournaments” over the past 16 years. “Our new free-to-play WPT-themed Zynga Poker tournaments will put the most competitive and genuine poker experience in the palm of players’ hands,” the firm said.

The WPT is a subsidiary of Ourgame International Holdings.
