The 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS North America $5,300 CAD no-limit hold’em main event at the Playground Poker Club in Montreal featured a $10,000,000 CAD guaranteed prize pool. In the end, a total of 1,954 entries were made, falling just short of the guarantee. Nonetheless, this was still a gigantic field with a lot of money up top. The largest payday of all was awarded to American Taylor Black, who came out on top with the title and the top prize of $1,400,000 CAD ($1,092,000 USD).

“It feels great, it’s hard to describe,” said Black after emerging victorious. “You play a million tournaments and to actually win one is really awesome.”

In addition to the title and the money, Black also earned 2,160 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win, enough to see him catapulted into 14th place in the POY standings.

Black came into the final table of nine players in second chip position, just one big blind behind leader Anthony Ruberto. Black ultimately knocked out Ruberto in third place after flopping top set of jacks, sending the American poker pro to the rail with $780,000 for his deep run.

With that Black took more than a 3.5-to-1 chip lead into heads-up play against 2018 World Poker Tour Lucky Hearts Poker Open champion Darryll Fish. Fish mounted a comeback that saw him nearly even up the stacks, but eventually black regained control and was able to gain roughly a 4-to-1 lead by the time the final hand arose.

With blinds of 10,000,000-20,000,000 Fish raised to 45,000,000 from the button. Black three-bet to 140,000,000 and Fish made the call. The flop brought the 9Diamond Suit6Heart Suit4Heart Suit and Black lead out for 130,000,000. Fish moved all-in for 345,000,000 and Black snap-called with the ASpade SuitAHeart Suit. Fish had flopped top pair with the QSpade Suit9Spade Suit, but was in need of help if he were to stay alive in the event.

The turn was the 6Spade Suit and the river the QHeart Suit. Both players had made two pairs, but Black’s aces and sixes earned him the pot and the title. Fish was sent home with $936,000 USD and 1,800 POY points. With his win in a WPT main event earlier this year Fish has shot up the POY leaderboard and currently sits in fourth place in the overall rankings.
