The World Series of Poker's $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. event entered its second day today and the list of players still in it looks a lot like the roster of an unmade poker video game featuring just about every great player in the world.
Let's run though a short list: Last year's champion Chip Reese, Allen Cunningham, Huck Seed, Kristy Gazes, David Singer, Darrell Dicken, Phil Ivey, Phil Laak, Phil Hellmuth, Gavin Smith, Eli Elezra, John Juanda, Mike Matusow, Scotty Nguyen, Barry Greenstein, David Oppenheim, Gabe Kaplan, Patrik Antonius, Greg Raymer, Mark Gregorich, Daniel Negreanu, Freddy Deeb, Andy Bloch, Justin Bonomo, David Sklansky, Ted Forrest, David Chiu, Chris Ferguson, Sam Grizzle, Doyle Brunson, Max Pescatori, David Grey, Chad Brown, Jason Lester, Robert Williamson III, Fred Bonyadi, Todd Brunson, Cyndy Violette, Hasan Habib, Joe Tehan, Victor Ramdin, William Chen, Tony G, John D'Agostino, Carlos Mortensen, David Levi, Kirk Morrison, Michael Mizrachi, T.J. Cloutier, Mike Sexton, and the list goes on and on.
With 148 entrants, this year's event broke last year's inaugural field by five players. The prize pool is $7.1 million and the winner will receive $2.27 million and a gold WSOP bracelet specifically crafted for this event.
Elezra, who just won his first bracelet this month, is the chip leader with $561,000. He got a lot of those chips in a big hand with Tuan Le, Chad Brown, and David Chi during a razz level. Elezra scooped the pot with the nut low. He has more than $200,000 more than his closest competitor. Everyone started with $100,000 chips.
Because of the nature of the mixed game, play is much slower than in other events. This tourney will take most of the week and the final table is set to convene on June 28.
