The 2019 Legends of Poker Mega Millions XXI no-limit hold’em tournament attracted 5,750 total entries to the Bicycle Hotel & Casino in beautiful Bell Gardens, California. The event has spanned 13 days in late August, with 30 starting flights. Players could buy-in for as little as $160, and also had the option to take advantage of the Quantum Tournament format and enter directly into day 2 for $3,700.In the end, a massive turnout built a prize pool of $1,647,125. The eventual champion is set to take home $268,395 for the win, and will also receive a $5,000 seat in the upcoming $2,000,000 guaranteed World Poker Tour Legends of Poker main event.
The first cards were dealt on Aug. 16 in this event. Late on Aug. 27, the final table of nine was decided. Among the players still in with a shot at the title is none other than 15-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth. The ‘Poker Brat’ will enter the final day in seventh chip position with 5,575,000.
Hellmuth had a larger stack as the final table bubble approached, but his AQ lost an all-in confrontation to Jesse Yaginuma’s A10 when the board ran out 875J9. Yaginuma made straight to double up, but ultimately ended up falling short of the final table.
The chip leader heading into the final day is Jose Mendoza with 15,300,000, with Triet Nguyen (14,860,000) and Eric Wu (13,825,000) hot on his heels.

This Mega Millions XXI tournament is just one of several tournaments that make up the 2019 Legends of Poker schedule. There are still several more exciting guaranteed events, including the $5,000 buy-in WPT Legends of Poker main event that starts Aug. 31 and the $100,000 guaranteed mixed games Quantum Tournament. Day two of that event begins on on Aug. 30, with $2,100 direct buy-in available.
