The 40th-anniversary running of the Irish Poker Open was moved online to partypoker to avoid postponing or canceling the event due to safety concerns during the global coronavirus outbreak. The centerpiece of the series remained the €1,000,000 guaranteed, €1,100 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event. The tournament ultimately attracted a total of 2,945 entries to nearly triple the guarantee.

In the end, Brazil’s Pablo Silva emerged victorious with the title and the top prize of €462,100. This was Silva’s second major victory of 2020, having won the $5,000,000 guaranteed $10,300 buy-in main event at the partypoker MILLIONS South America series for $1,000,000 in February. The 1,800 Card Player Player of the Year points he earned for that win were enough to catapult him into contention in the 2020 POY race, which is sponsored by Global Poker. He currently sits in 12th position in the standings.

The top 408 finishers made the money in this event, which featured players’ actual given names instead of chosen screen names. Among those who made the money were Jeff Gross (359th – €2,209) Davidi Kitai (299th – €2,327), Matthias Eibinger (280th – €2,415), Dan Smith (242nd – €2,503), Sam Greenwood (221st – €2,503), Kristen Bicknell (219th – €2,503), Anatoly Filatov (185th – €2,768), Sam Grafton (147th – €3,622) and Juha Helppi (55th – €6,567).

Canadian poker pro and Twitch streamer Parker ‘tonkaaaaP’ Talbot placed seventh for €45,648, while 2013_ European Poker Tour Barcelona_ main event champion Tom Middleton earned €65,821 as the sixth-place finisher.

Hungarian poker pro Andras Nemeth secured €325,423 as the runner-up finisher. The 2018 EPT Bracelona €25,000 high roller champion held the lead at one point during heads-up play, but was unable to close out the victory. Sihao Zhang, who held the chip lead heading into the final day of this event, finished third for €210,723.

Here is a look at the payouts awarded at the final table:
