In September The Venetian® Resort Las Vegas hosted Sin City’s first large tournament series since the COVID-19 outbreak. The series was a success, with every single event beating the posted guarantee. The poker room is now set to play host to another series of live poker tournaments in October. The DeepStack Showdown will feature a total of 18 events running between Oct. 5-18, with more than $400,000 in guaranteed prize money up for grabs.

The largest tournament on the schedule is the $150,000 guaranteed $400 buy-in no-limit hold’em ‘MonsterStack’ event. The tournament features five starting flights to choose from, with one beginning at 11:10 AM local time each day from Oct. 13-17. Players will start with 30,000 in tournament chips and blind levels of 30 minutes, beginning with 100-100 blinds. Levels increase to 40 minutes in length on day 2, which begins at noon on Oct. 18.

The largest event of the September series was also a $400 buy-in tournament. A total of 1,538 entries were made in the event, blowing away the $100,000 guarantee to create a final prize pool of $512,154. Eventual champion Caleb Hershey of Rugby, ND earned $74,123 after making a three-way deal to end the event.

“We’re excited to be able to provide this event to our players in an adjusted setting with health and safety in mind,” said Tommy LaRosa, poker tournament director at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas when asked about bringing back live tournament poker series to Sin City.

In regards to safety, the Venetian Resort Las Vegas announced the ‘Venetian Clean Commitment’ upon re-opneing, which features approximately 800 safety initiatives.

“In the poker room, we require all players to sanitize their hands before sitting down at a table, so players will find hand sanitizer stations throughout the room. In addition, we are frequently wiping down the tables, chairs, plexiglass dividers, hard surfaces, and sanitizing the chips and cards. We continue to make changes that enhance our protocols to insure compliance and accountability,” said LaRosa. “We look forward to hosting players back for one of our DeepStack Poker Series when the time is right for them. Players can continue to expect the experience they have always known and loved at The Venetian Poker Room, with the added Venetian Clean Commitment, which is a resort-wide initiative for all of our guests and team members.”
