The U.S. Poker Open is returning in 2021 after missing a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The series of high-stakes live poker tournaments is set to run from June 3-15 at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are 12 events scheduled, with buy-ins ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.
The 2021 USPO will part of the recently accounted PokerGO Tour. All 12 of the tournaments offered during the series will award rankings points based on the amount of many that players cash for. With 22 qualifying events in the books so far in 2021, Ali Imsirovic is currently sitting atop the PokerGO Tour leaderboard with 1,145 points, 10 cashes, four titles and $1,659,010 in earnings.
The points system will also be utilized to determine the winner of the U.S. Poker Open Championship. This player-of-the-series award will come with $50,000 in added prize money and a new ‘Golden Eagle Trophy’.
Seven of the twelve events offered feature traditional no-limit hold’em, with the remaining five tournaments featuring an assortment of other games including pot-limit Omaha, a big bet mix format, an eight-game format, and short deck. The first eleven events will all feature double re-entry, with single re-entry in the $50,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event that will bring the series to its conclusion.
This will mark the third running of the USPO. Whoever captures the trophy this year will join a short but elite list of champions. Stephen Chidwick came out on top in the first-ever USPO back in February of 2018, cashing in five of the eight events offered. He emerged victorious in two of those events, earning $1,256,600 throughout the series. The most recent USPO was held in the winter of 2019. David Peters cashed for a total of $1,584,000 across the 10 events that year, winning the final event of the series to secure the trophy with a final lead of just 10 rankings points.
As in past years, each and every event’s final table will be live-streamed on the OTT service PokerGO, with broadcasts beginning at 4:00 p.m. Eastern each day throughout the series.
