Jeremiah ‘freestylerr’ Williams is the latest player to secure a piece of World Series of Poker hardware during the 2021 WSOP Online. Williams outlasted a field of 707 total entries to emerge victorious in event no. 5, a $1,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em eight-max tournament. For the win he was awarded his first gold bracelet and $139,600.
This was Williams’ first recorded six-figure tournament score, and it easily surpassing his previous largest cash of $38,400 which he earned for a sixth-place finish in a $10,000 buy-in high roller event at the Wynn last December. Williams now has $297,384 in career tournament earnings. He also plays cash games and was recently featured on PokerGO’s Poker After Dark series playing $50-$100 no-limit hold’em.
The 707-entry turnout for this event built a prize pool of $648,700 that was paid out among the top 90 finishers. Several notable players made deep runs and finished inside the money, including 15-time bracelet winner Phil ‘Lumestackin’ Hellmuth (67th – $2,011), 2020 WSOPO event winner Michael ‘miguelfiesta’ Lech (50th – $2,400), two-time bracelet winner and three-time World Poker Tour champion Anthony ‘heheh’ Zinno (41st – $2,789), bracelet winner and WPT champ Chris ‘Robotbob47’ Moorman (34th – $3,179), bracelet winner Ryan ‘Protential’ Laplante (18th – $4,606), and three-time bracelet winner Ben ‘WhyIsGamora’ Yu (16th – $4,606).
The final table of eight was set shortly after midnight Pacific time, with Gary ‘phiI_ivey’ Kosakowski holding the lead and Williams in the middle of the pack. Kevin ‘vamonospest’ Lutz was knocked out just minutes into the final table (8th – $11,936). Adam ‘Shakusky’ Richardson followed not too long after, getting all-in with 75
and failing to improve by the river despite flopping both straight and flush draws. Richardson earned $15,893 as the seventh-place finisher.
‘Vegasbroke’ earned their third straight knockout of the final table when their queen-jack outran the king-queen of ‘Pickitup’ (6th – $21,537). As a result, they moved into the top spot on the leaderboard with five remaining. ‘Vegasbroke’ continued their domination of the early action by busting Gary ‘phiI_ivey’ Kosakowski. The chips got in on a K10
6
flop, with Kosakowski holding 6
6
for bottom set while ‘Vegasbroke’ had A
for the nut flush draw. The 5
on the turn gave ‘Vegasbroke’ the lead, and the 9
sent Kasakowski packing in fifth place ($29,710).
Matt Stout
Joshua ‘zeal1906’ Ray busted in third place after getting involved in a battle of the blinds. Ray shoved from the small blind with king-five and ran into the ace-king of ‘Vegasbroke’. Neither player improved and Ray was awarded $59,551 for his strong showing in this event.
‘Vegasbroke’ began heads-up play against Williams with more than a 2:1 chip lead. The rolls were reversed when Williams got all-in with a set of deuces and held against the straight draw of ‘Vegasbroke’. In the final hand of the event, Williams raised to 320,000 from the button with 109
and ‘Vegasbroke’ three-bet to 989,000 holding Q
J
. Williams called and the flop came down Q
8
7
. ‘Vegasbroke’ bet 1,344,000 with top pair and Williams called with his open-ended straight draw. The J
on the turn gave ‘Vegasbroke’ top two pair. They bet 3,345,890 and Williams moved all-in with his turned jack-high straight. ‘Vegasbroke’ quickly called, only to find they were in need of a queen or jack on the river. The A
on the end secured the pot and the title for Williams, while ‘Vegasbroke’ took home $86,472 as the runner-up.
