This is Young’s largest recorded tournament score, topping the $64,641 he took home as the runner-up in a $1,100 buy-in event at the 2014 Empire State Hold’em Championships.
Young came into the final table in second chip position among the remaining eight players, with Daniel ‘leinad’ Buzgon sitting atop the leaderboard. Young scored his first knockout with seven players remaining. His JJ won a preflop race against the AQ of Ryan ‘TheSims’ Hohner (7th – $34,475), giving Young the lead heading into six-handed action.
‘justliberto’ had secured two eliminations during the early going, putting them near the top of the chip counts with five remaining. They then moved into an effective tie for the lead when they picked up AA against the JJ of ‘betbetbet’ (5th- $61,070) and held.
‘justliberto’ did have a small setback when they doubled up a short-stacked ‘FitzroidPoo’, but they soon got back to their winning ways. ‘FitzroidPoo’ got all-in again, this time with 55 facing the AQ. A queen on the river sent ‘FitzroidPoo’ to the virtual rail in fourth place ($76,830).
Young won a big pot off of Buzgon during three-handed action, taking the hotly contested hand down on the river without showdown. Buzgon fell to 25 big blinds after folding. His stack dipped below 20 big blinds by the time his final hand arrived. Buzgon moved all-in preflop with K10 from the small blind and received a call from Young, who held A10 in the big blind. Young flopped the nut flush to leave Buzgon drawing dead. He took home $102,933 for his third-place showing.
Young held the lead when heads-up play began, and remained ahead by the time the final hand was dealt. ‘justliberto’ raised from the button with K9 and Young three-bet to 23 million with KQ in the big blind. ‘justliberto’ called and the flop came down K72. Young bet 12.3 million and ‘justliberto’ called. The 4 on the turn saw Young fire another 30.8 million. ‘justliberto’ called yet again and the J completed the board. Young moved all-in and ‘justliberto’ called to put their tournament life on the line. Young revealed the same pair of kings with a superior kicker to take down the pot and the title. ‘justliberto’ earned $135,930 as the runner-up.
