Bonomo, Agarwal Among Latest Winners In Bellagio Five Diamond High Roller Poker Tournaments

The 2021 Five Diamond World Poker Classic is set to feature 13 high roller events from Dec. 2-19 at Bellagio. Eight of those high-stakes tournaments are now in the books, with more than $4.4 million in prize money paid out so far. Below is a look at the results from events #5-8. Bellagio High Roller #5

Just three days after winning the $103,000 buy-in high roller event for $928,200, Justin Bonomo emerged victorious in a $10,500 buy-in no-limit hold’em event for his second title of the series and third of 2021.

Bonomo outlasted a field of 32 entries, earning $128,000 and 240 points for the win. This was the 77th time that the 36-year-old poker pro has cashed for six figures or more in an event. This latest score increased his career earnings to $59,163,450, further extending his lead on Card Player’s all-time money list.

In addition to the title and the money, Bonomo also earned 240 Card Player Player of the Year points after coming out on top. This was his sixth POY-qualified final table, with more than $3.9 in earnings accrued across those deep runs. Bonomo now sits in 77th place in the 2021 POY race, which is sponsored by Global Poker He also secured 128 PokerGO Tour points as the champion, enough to climb to 18th place on that leaderboard.

Bonomo knocked out Ali Imsirovic, the leader of both the POY and PokerGO Tour points races on the money bubble, with his nut flush besting Imsirovic’s top two pair to guarantee the remaining players a payday of at least $25,600.

Each of the other four contenders were knocked out by Bonomo as he stormed his way to the title. In the final hand, his AJ held up against the A9 of Dan Shak to lock up the victory. Shak took home $83,200 as the runner-up.

Bellagio High Roller #6

The sixth high roller event on the Five Diamond World Poker Classic schedule was another $10,500 no-limit hold’em event. This time around, 43 entries built a $430,000 prize pool.

The top six finishers made the money, with Germany’s Leonard Maue emerging victorious with the title and the top prize of $146,200. This was the third-largest live score of his career, increasing his lifetime total to $980,571.

He earned 300 POY points for his second title of the year, having previously won another $10,000 high roller at ARIA in November. He fell just short of another final-table finish, placing ninth in the $50,000 no-limit hold’em high at the World Series of Poker for $103,635.

Just three days removed from a win in high roller event #3, Korea’s Sung Joo Hyun made it down to heads-up play to add another $94,600 to his impressive 2021 tally. Hyun was not yet done accumulating earnings and rankings points this series, though, so more on him later.

Jeremy Ausmus continued his impressive 2021 campaign that included two bracelet wins, making his 11th final table of the year (4th – $43,000). Nick Schulman improved on his fifth-place finish in event #5, finishing third for $64,500. Like Hyun, Ausmus and Schulman were far from done putting up results at this festival.

Bellagio High Roller #7

The next high roller on the agenda was yet another $10,500 buy-in no-limit hold’em event. The 46-entry turnout saw $460,000 in prize money paid out among the top seven finishers, with WSOP bracelet winner Anuj Agarwal ultimately coming out on top with the title and the top prize of $156,400.

This was Agarwal’s second title of 2021, having taken down a $15,000 high roller event at ARIA back in July for $151,800. He now has more than $1.6 million in lifetime live earnings to his name.

Nick Schulman finished as the runner-up, earning $101,200 for his third final table in as many days. Schulman cashed for $191,300 across the three events, bringing his career total to $13.4 million in the process.

Ausmus finished fifth for $36,800 and 125 POY points. With 12 final-table finishes, two titles, and more than $1.9 million in POY earnings, Ausmus climbed to 26th place in the POY standings. He also moved into 22nd place in the PokerGO Tour rankings thanks to the 37 points he secured in this event.

Sung Joo Hyun placed sixth for $27,600 and 100 POY points. This was his ninth final table of the year, with three titles won including his victory in event #3 of this high roller series. With 3,444 total points and $876,595 in POY earnings in 2021, he has laid claim to the 19th-place spot on the leaderboard.

Bellagio High Roller #8

The lone pot-limit Omaha high roller on the schedule attracted 35 entries by the time registration was closed. Brazilian poker pro Felipe Ramos was ultimately declared the winner after he struck a deal heads-up with Hank Yang that saw both players lock up $115,500.

This was the fourth-largest career score for Ramos, increasing his career earnings to nearly $2.8 million.

Thailand’s Punnat Punsri secured his third cash of the series, finishing fourth for $35,000. Adam Hendrix fell just short of making his eighth POY-qualified final table of the year, hitting the rail on the money bubble when his top set of queens was unable to fade the wrap draw of Punsri, who made a king-high straight on the river to take down the pot.
